So excited! I havent had a road bike in 10 years and I bought a 2000 Valkyry STD with 28k and she's beautiful..100% bone stock except for leather bags & large windscreen. Screen comes OFF, bag mounts stay, ya never know when you may need them right? (Plus they are really nice quality) Im gonna go custom, bobber style, taking in down to the bare neccessities. Ive recently joined this forum to gain the knowledge and make some friends and share my build and designs. I need some opinions on a few things up front but so far my plan is to do the following..I have lots & lots of tools and build knowledge from making cool "Man-toys" as my ex wife calls them, I havent done a bike like this though..ever. (Im gonna hold off on the rake kit for now, If I do that, it will be what I do Last, after everything else is done) I will buy your used parts if ya got em' so fire away!
1st thing is 100% maintenace, fluids, filters, inspection, brake pads, rear end tear down, cleaning, moly lube etc. Then do the fun stuff, Ive saved up $1,000 for parts, that's the budget
Low profile front fender, probably buy an aftermarket one, cut to my specs.. Any advice where to buy? Modify rear fender,(or buy aftermarket) much shorter, but long enough to place a tiny, removable rear pad for a passenger once in a while.. Any suggestions on these ideas? any recommended vendors?
Gonna desmog it right away, Darkside tire, probably going with toyo proxie..
custom, low-ish profile BRIGHT LED brake light with integrated attaching tag bracket, I'd like the brake light to flash when I hit the brakes, any suggestions?
Handlebar LED turn signals, (any suggestions on which brand?)
Bobber seat, low profile, thin-ish but needs to be somewhat easy to attach-install (I have a mig welder if needed to install a seat pan) Any suggestions??
I've read here about the OEM petcock, what brand/type should I replace it with?
As far as the handlebrs go, Im thinking of "old school" beach cruiser low rise and wide. I'll know them when I see them, i've snooped around online some, any suggestions on which vendors have the fair price, quality etc?
As far as exhaust goes, I will stay as stock as I can but I will modify it some so I can put truck stacks on. I REALLY like the truck stack look, shorter than stock, with slash cut facing outwards like some of you guys have, I dont want crazy loud, But Im fine with a deeper, rumbly sound at low RPM and such, I dont mind maybe modifyng the baffles a bit.. What do you guys Advise? Buy them where??
I know this is a long list but hey, Im in the right place right! I live in SW Florida and I must have this done BEFORE Bike week in Daytona. I grew up There and havent been back but once in 20 years! Who knows? Maybe will will meet up there during bike week?
I am very thankful for everyones help and imput, My goal is 1 month to do this project, including the paint work. God Bless and MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Jeff Reeves, Nokomis Florida

Check out my Valk at http://rebuild.turnspain.com as I have done a lot of what you want to do. You can always ask specifics. For the frond mudguard I bought a fibreglass pattern one and cut it down.

Good luck with your project! Lots of pictures, please.
The petcock most are going to is the Pingle. Lots of info on it search.
While you are desmogging, you will want to add the Dan Mark electric fuel shut off. Lot's of info on that as well in search.

Man, they are PROUD of those VTX front fenders, I think I will make one instead. Ill snoop around these builder websites after taking measurements. This is the FUN part! Having a "one off" One of a kind should be interesting.. I will take pics and make a thread for it once I get the right size fender to modify.

You could probably sell your stock one for enough to cover the new one.....or close maybe.

Pick up a used front fender like I did with a dent in the front for 30 bucks and then cut to size. Also a used front section of rear fender and do the same. I bought a set of drag bars too that fit but haven't installed yet. Weather turned cold. No hurry. So from this pic I still need to cut ft. rear fender, front fender and my drag bars. Car tire is on. And exhaust. DRKSIDER and RDKILL have also done bobs.

What do you guys Advise? Buy them where?? I suggest you consider saving your stock OEM pipes and get another set to experiment with. Many have had "customizers remorse", in that they don't like the drone associated with straight pipes. You stated you liked the short look, but to get that with a OEM set, you have to basically cut everything off. I've never done it, but it looks like most of the chamber after the headers is cut, leaving straight pipes. You got a lot of long straight roads down there in FL and that drone is sure to grate on you, unless you're going to use her as a boulevard cruiser. I bought a Valk with Ragnar cut pipes w/24" truck stacks and it sounded good, nice rumble when cruising near idle, awesome bite when the throttle got twisted, but the drone made me shy away and she sat more than my others. I bought a unmolested OEM set and took the Ragnars off. At present, I'm experimenting with some perforated pipes and a baffle on them. Of course, this is only my opinion, others will have different views and hopefully will state them to help you make the right choice for you.

Here's a couple shots of my George - blown bobber built by George Jackson who left this mortal coil in 2003. Restored by Chuck Schafer. At the Colorado Motorcycle Expo show last winter. The paint is by the Harley Custom Paint shop in Golden CO. HD ships off their sheet metal to them, for custom paint. The seat is ostrich leather by Corbin. I have the same seat in tan. I added the dragon applique. The graphic I added to the VTX bucket: The bike when George still owned it - with Super Trapps; before my custom pipes. Wow! some awesome bikes for sure. I really like the red one, I may do the rear fender just like the red one with the wrap over the fender seat. It looks like the factory fender that was cut horizontally am I right? I Got my bike yesterday and it is just about perfect condition, just need a front tire. I LOVE the smoooooth power and torque. And it sounds like a sport bike when you blip the throttle! Its 100% stock, I plan on keeping the engine and exhaust stock for now, just fenders, bars, seat, lighting. Then see how it rides and such. Any ideas on which vendor I should buy the desmog kit from? And the dan marc fuel switch? Also replace the factory petcock with a better one right? Which brand? I gotta get this thing ready before Bike week. Today, its sunny, 72 degrees, palm trees, coconuts,...gotta love SW FLA! Merry Christmas my friends, Keep the info coming! Ill post pics of the new bike today! Jeff
