Tonight I tore down the fairing on my new-to-me Interstate to replace/JB-Weld the nuts that hold the inner fairing into place (Right side was fine, left side had ONE functional nut in place!) and while in there replaced the very last incadescent lights on the bike with LED! Wooot! Been a goal of mine for a while, happy to have FINALLY done it! I'd put this on the tech forum, but then they'd want a step by step of how I did it, so putting it here instead...  Headlights and front turn signals:  Tail lights, license plate light and rear turn signals:  Rear brake lights (Not the easiest pic to get while pushing the brake pedal and stretching around to get the pic of the lights!)  And the final one, the dashboard lights:  Woot! Went for a ride with my buddy that bought my other '99 Interstate the other day, and was asking him for his impressions of the turn signal, rear running lights and brake lights from before and after, and, he's VERY loathe to spend money, but after seeing the difference he's wanting to make the same changes himself.... High praise indeed! |

Next time you want to test the rear brake lights, just tie a piece of twine or similar onto the front brake lever. Make sure it's long enough to allow you to stand in back, then just pull on the twine. Voila...brake lights are on. Meant to ask what you used for the headlights, I want to change them out on my "new" trike. Most work planned for it will be done once Mother Nature begins dusting the countryside with copious amounts of white. |

I was very tempted to do so, but the OCD geek in me just couldn't let it go, it had to be replaced as well or I couldn't say the bike was 100% LED... The instrument panel is quite impressive looking.
Yeah, I'm very happy with how that one came out. Going with a green theme since it's a green bike (The voltmeter I put on the left pod is also green...) Here's a before of the instrument panel:  I acquired a spare instrument panel in the auction we bought the Silverwing in, I ALMOST swapped it out to lower the mileage of my bike to 45,776, but decided I was too close to 100k on the existing one so I kept it as is... |

Alas no, the box was mostly random bits and pieces of Kurakyn (And other brand) highway pegs. I haven't sat down yet to see if I can put together a complete set from the pieces yet. The only other Interstate part I've been able to recognize is a decent shape OEM windscreen... |

Alas no, the box was mostly random bits and pieces of Kurakyn (And other brand) highway pegs. I haven't sat down yet to see if I can put together a complete set from the pieces yet. The only other Interstate part I've been able to recognize is a decent shape OEM windscreen... I've been thinking about doing a LED headlight conversion like Steel Cowboy did. But, I'm so old and slow, it might take months to do. |

I just did the same thing. What a difference! I did go the extra mile with the license plate light. What a PITA! You can probably do it without removing the rear half of the fender, but I had already removed it for replacement. It would be a five minute job if Honda had made the light cover removable. Now I want to turn my rear turns to running light/turns. I was gifted a pair of trailer light converters (thanks to Terry Stratton AKA Foozle) that should take care of it. |

It's not that bad, maybe 10 minutes since I was taking my time and had to go get my really short stubby phillips (And took the license plate off, maybe not 100% necessary but made it a lot easier). Two screws, two nuts and you're in.  |
