Hi All, hope you are well.

I just have recently sold my bike and after two days I found my dream one. I had 98 standard and I got my always loved 99 IS with the best color combo. Red/Black. ( when I will figure out how to upload pics with google drive I will post some)

I'm so happy with the bike. One owner in States and one owner in Poland. Bike was very well looked after.
64k on clock and not sign of rust at all.  Kiss

I would like to get sorted two small things and I would like to hear your experience.

The first one is problem with starting the lady. Randomly when trying to start the bike all lights, display and controls just switch off and the starter wont even try.
When I push the bike on gear and the engine get a bit kick it starts normally.

Any idea what to check? Is this something related to electrics or any problem with starter?

The second question is about wind buffeting. I can't find some remedy for this problem since my first bike.
On the new IS there is annoying wind coming around the tank. Is there any option to install some bigger wings on the front fairing? I mean to replace the original already installed for something bigger? Do you have any ideas?

Thanks for any advice.

Take care and stay safe. Jiri

Congrats on your new IS - I just picked my first one up this last August - I love it!

I have a similar, or identical issue occasionally when starting my IS - I think mine has to do with the neutral sensor.  The green neutral light will be on and when I hit the starter button evreything goes blank on the cluster for a couple of seconds.  If I just nudge the shifter a little it will be good to go.  Next time it happens try pulling in the clutch without doing anything else and see if it will start.  If so, I would blame the sensor.  I don't have any plans to tear into mine at this point - it's just not that big a deal to me.

On both lower sides of the fairing are small wind deflectors-one each side. As a Guess are those deflectors on your fairing? After riding my Brothers Standard/Tour I do tens to get a bit more wind buffeting. NOT really an issue for me. Also if running with the trunk mounted you have More surface area for the wind to act upon. RIDE SAFE.

Before doing anything else, put a voltmeter across the battery posts and hit the starter. If it drops to something under 9-10 volts then your battery is shot. If it doesn't do that, then follow the other suggestions regarding the start switch. cooldude

It's an IS, it shouldn't be the problem, the starter switch.

I would look more at the suggestion of the other safety switches, like the neutral. The shifter takes force sometimes to insure it's in the correct position.

As for the buffeting, I've never noticed it, and I've ridden 3 different IS. My current one has the extra front deflectors on the forks just under the fairing. Only from wind over the shield.

Air Wings can also be added, and adjusted for extra or less wind, and might do what you want.

The green one had home build deflectors bolted on the chrome ones at the wheel, and the black one has the ones under the fairing.

Nice bike, my 1st Valkyrie was also the 99' black/red.

You might like to add your location to your profile. Easier to meet up with others when they know where you are.

Most of us now use postimage.org for free picture hosting, easy to post your pictures to forums.

You can also see the Show Chrome oversize wind shields on both bike, where the black one has had it trimmed down to the height of the extra width is. The extra I feels helps a lot in keeping the wind off my hands, cold affects them a lot.

Hi Jiri.  Have you checked the battery cables at the battery and the ground point on the frame?  If you have a poor connection or corrosion you may get a decent reading with a voltmeter but the connection won't hold up under heavier load.  When the start button is pushed your lights etc. should go out to make the battery's potential available for the start circuit and a few vital things like coils etc.

There is an online manual that is available for download if you don't already have it.  It has the electrical schematics in it and will show you the interconnects.

Enjoy the bike.

Since the display goes out when you try to start it, I do not think that it is one of the sensors. Probably something that battery cable connection, ground connection to frame by the left foot pedal, something that affects all power to the bike. Also, you might try removing the right side cover and checking the red connector on top of the starter relay. The connections can get corroded and do this. If that that is the problem, clean the connections before the connector melts down due to heat.  The red connector has three wires, the red wire in the back supplies power to the ENTIRE bike except for turning over the starter.

Hi and thanks to all for your inputs. I Really appreciate any help. I will check all the contacts on the way from the switch to the battery.
Battery has been replaced on 4/2020 so its new. After the transport I recharged the battery and checked the contacts.
If by your advices the problem may be in the start/kill switch or  the neutral switch why the bike react on the move?
Also I always starting the bike with clutch engaged so the neutral switch shouldn't be a problem?
I will check the ground point and I will open the red switch housing to clean everything and will report back.
Regarding the wind guys I don't care about the wind and I know its motorcycle so the wind is part of this game but the buffeting and headache is the problem. Can't find remedy on this at all.

@gordonv
Im thinking to make something similar what you have on the green lady. Under the fairing. The black deflectors. Did you made them your self? Whats about the Show Chrome oversize wind shields?
Any source please?
Thanks a lot to all again

Consider starting the bike in neutral and leave the clutch handle alone. My granddaughter was starting her bike in gear and used the clutch, not knowing it would start in neutral without touching the clutch. She was surprised at how much easier and faster it turned over.

If you do a search you will find lots on this - it is a popular mod that many do.

Under the RH side cover, there is a 5Amp fused accessory circuit that is available, two wires with push connectors and under plastic isolators..  You can use that as is or use it to trigger a 4 or 5 pin relay that will energize to allow for a larger load, many use it for an added distribution and fuse panel to redistribute existing load (take headlight off of handlebar switch and use that for control via other relays for example) or to add other accessories, lights etc.  Take the power for the new panel from the battery side of the 55 Amp main fuse, install some sort of fuse protection near the connection so the supply to the new panel is protected.

This active thread shows a very nice auxiliary "Fuze" panel and has some relevant discussion.  http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,114007.0.html

Just do a simple google search for Valkyrie Show Chrome windshield, and you should find a lot of pictures/suppliers.

Service manual here,
http://valkyrienorway.com/download.html

I scanned the 6 pages from the owners manual, if you want them, so you know how to use your radio controls.

I wired my aux port directly to the battery, so I could charge when I'm off the bike, but I have to plug in a USB charger to get a draw. So when I remove the charger, there is no battery drain. Just have to remember to remove it when your not ridding daily. As mentioned, there is an acc powered line behind the right side cover. Check your owners manual on the removal of the cover, you don't want to break it.

As mentioned on the starter relay. Here's a post, no the best, but if you click on the link in it, you'll see a burnt red connector.

Have you found ShopTalk, and the Known Valkyrie Problems? Worth reading.
