Just received my trunk bracket from a fellow forum member in SoCal.  Got my trunk mounted back on the bike as I convert from "super Valk" back to original Interstate.

Looking for help with the wiring.  Previous owners cut the wires... I have a 6" lead coming out of the bottom of the trunk with 3 wires - 1 solid green, 1 green with red stripe, and 1 brown with white stripe.  All 3 wires are relatively thin, approx. 18 0r 20 gage if I had to guess.

I also have a piece of wire loom with a factory connector on the end.  That connector has 3 wires in it.  There is a solid green that ends at terminal labeled 'C'.  Also a solid brown wire that ends at the middle terminal labeled 'B', and finally a solid white wire that ends at terminal 'A'.  That partial wire harness is approx 20" long now where it was cut.  The 3 wires on this partial harness are thicker than the ones coming form the trunk.  Guessing approx. 16 gage.

I also believe my trunk has 2 factory speakers in the arm rests.  I have photos of all this but can't seem to post them to the photo host site.  Can anyone help guide me on what connects to what?

Green is ground, brown/white is tail light, green/red is brake light.

Search is your best friend. This post was recent, and has all you could ever wish.

Look up the original wiring, and see what was done to that. It might still be there or it might need to be replaced, but it could be found.

Thanks to both for the replies... Knowing what each color is for will be very helpful.  Also thanks for linking to that other thread.  I had read that before & tried searching for it myself but I was unsuccessful.  I will work on this issue this weekend.

Well I finally got around to looking into the wiring...  Spent time yesterday digging in to what previous owners did.  Found some old wiring for some non-functioning LED strips that someone once installed under the saddle bags & removed all that.  Also removed an old aux. audio jack.  Also found someone appears to have added trailer converter wiring at some point.

Anyway, I found the factory connection for the green/brown/white leads & cleaned it & connected.  it was just long enough to reach to the thin gage wires from the trunk.  I connected Brown to Brown/white.  Also connected white to green (ground I assume) and all 4 trunk lights are now illuminated.   No brake or turn signals on the trunk but the all the other existing lights still function as they did before.  Not sure what to do with the green & green/red as the bike didn't seem happy when I tried connecting them so I left them temporarily taped off.

Remember I ride an interstate, and don't usually see how the lights operate, but the trunk is brake lights only, the turn are the ones on the fender.

There is a how-to mode on converting your trunk brakes to turn signals.

I looked for it, didn't find it in my bookmarks, but found this one.

Seems MarkT designed it. It also might be posted in Shoptalk.

Assuming you have signals on the license plate mount, you need brake lights on the trunk, and I think that's just the outside two.  But I could be wrong.

Both my interstates have the std taillight under the trunk added, and that has run-brake in it.

All interstates should have had this, and not just the plastic knockout covering the hole. The CB, if added as an option under the trunk, interfered a bit with the OE lens added under there, but few have the CB anyway (and there is a workaround).

Because it is larger than the trunk lights, and almost always in shade from the trunk, that light is good and bright in daylight.
