Well, I made 5 for 5 this week.  First time in a long time.  I usually ride 3-4 times per week, but have to drive the truck either for work or because of 90% chance of liquid sunshine.  The weather in the Housotn area is about the same as Wetrudgeon's weather. (don't know exactly where you live).  I REALLY enjoyed the rides to and from work....  Can you say "take the long way home"?

I made 5 for 5 last week, and I expect to do the same this week.

I enjoy my morning commute. It is a good way to start the day, but it was nice Sunday to get out and take off heading somewhere that wasn't work. My bike handled the different root just fine. I kept thinking about what I needed to do at work on Monday. Eventually the last of the golden fall leaves, and the sight of the blue ridge mountains in the distance helped remind me to enjoy the day.
Now, that memory is just one of many golden autumn memories trying to hang onto my mental branch.
Today is back to work.
It is going to be a long week.

Friday my wife and I are going to run down to Atlanta for a book signing. We'll take the car for that one to make my wife more comfortable. We'll be coming home late after the signing, and since I know she'll be falling asleep as I drive, I might as well let her do that in the Volvo.

Long week ahead, but I'll be commuting each day and trying to find joy where I can.

After only riding once last week, and not at all the previous week due to being sick and the cold weather, I finally made it on the bike this morning.  Mid-upper 40's and supposed to be close to 70 this afternoon.  I actually rode my dad's wing.  I wanted to winterize it for him (actually for me since I ride it more than he does) a couple weeks ago but it wouldn't start due to dead battery.  So I've had it on my battery tender.  It started this morning, so I want to top it off with gas and Sta-bil later today when I take it home.  I just hope it starts after sitting all day off the charger.  Shocked

I'm here today. I had to haul another pesky storm door yesterday so I had to drive the truck. I ran over a curb and couldn't hold my lane very well. I really need to go to a parking lot and practice driving a damn cage.  Lips Sealed

and boy did she mean it. Nice comfortable temps and slightly damp roads from last nights rain. More rain in the clouds above.
I made it to the first campus dry. I was able to teach dry, but unfortunately I left the satchel of books I need for tonight at home. So, after I leave here I get to run back home and then to my next campus. It is a three campus day with a run back home. Should be about 100 miles for today, without going anywhere.
Rain rain go away, let me ride another day...

I had to work from home this morning...but I'm at the office now.  I had my laptop and they are calling for rain...plus I just wasn't feeling it today...so I took the jeep.  Supposed to be alot nicer the rest of the week though.

10 more minutes at this job, then on to the next one across the county.  Just a little damp today.

My boots are wearing out the heels of my socks which must mean I'm breaking down past the nail again, but they are still very waterproof.

rode today no rain, overcast but not cold.

Wonderful day to be on a Valkyrie and I am so lucky to be able to go zoom zoom zoom all the way home.

I accidentally got off at the correct exit for home so I had to turn the wrong way so the ride would last longer.  Mission accomplished.

This morning I had two short conversations passing through Lawrence.  The first was with a fellow in a pickup with his window rolled halfway down.

He pulled alongside me at a stoplight and rolled his window the rest of the way down.  I waited for him to say something but he just sat there staring at the bike, his face almost entirely outside the window.

Finally he spoke.  "That's a lot of motor."

"Yes.  Yes, it is."  Sometimes I engage.  Sometimes I just acknowledge.  I wish I could say there's some pattern, thought, or reasoning that guides me through the choice, but I fear there's not.

Further up the road I noticed in my mirror a rider on a Harley.  I was stopped in the right track of the left lane.  Plenty of room was beside me but he came to rest behind and to my left.  I nodded to him over my shoulder.  He returned the non-verbal greeting and, as the light changed, followed me to the next red interruption.  At this light he stopped alongside me.  He must have been studying my tag.

"Johnson County?  Must be a cold ride."

"Not so bad.  I'm headed for Topeka.  I live in Olathe.  I go in three times a week."

He laughed.  "I do this in the morning to let the wife sleep in.  I'm just going over here to the school. Nice bike."

This evening for the ride home this temperature displays ranged from fifty-five to forty-eight.  I wore my summer hat.  I had forgotten how invigorating it can be to put my face into a really brisk wind.  It's noticeable what an eighty mile per hour wind can do to fifty degrees.  It's almost astonishing what a ninety mile per hour wind will do.  It's mind numbing what a ...  Well, let's just leave it at what happens under a buck.

It was a good day to be alive.  It was a good day to ride.  Today was one of those days that the one especially accentuates the other.

I rode to the office today.

The roads are damp, but the rain itself has slacked into sheets of mist. Not to bad to ride to work in, better than the downpour we had last night. Perhaps if the rain starts to slack off we'll miss the fortold flash flooding. I can do without that today.

I didn't leave until about 6:45 this morning so visibility was improving as the sun came up.  I could clearly see the trees bending and shaking.  Leaves were drifting across the damp pavemet, which does get slick in spots. It is hard to get traction on a bed of damp leaves on asphalt.

Otherwise it was a nice ride in. The public schools are closed, so I wasn't competing with buses and children running across the road. That was nice. Some places must be closed for the holiday because traffic was light.

Now I'm at work, drying out because my pants are still a bit damp, and meeting with students about their papers. This might turn out to be a good day despite the weather.

I guess I can join this thread now that I came out of retirement and back to work for a while.  I had health insurance problems and went back to work Monday (4 days a week for 4 months) to get back on insurance and COBRA.

I've ridden to work every day so far (70 miles round trip) and it looks good for another week with no rain in the forecast.

Yesterday they made me chase parts on my bike on two different trips, one 60 mile round trip and another 30 mile round trip so got in an extra 90 miles.  Going back to work may not be too bad if they keep using me like this.

No problem Willow. I did a ride to lunch and back too. When I returned I had a long discussion with another guy about my lunch.

He said, "you eat?"

I said, "Yep"

Such is life for us simple minded peoples. I'd like to sit in on a session with you and Daniel Meyer "talking" someday.

Rode to work over here in Australia today.
76 klm to work and 76 klm home.

Trip to work was eventful,
one prang holding up traffic, but not for me.
One Kangaroo on the road, but he kept out of my way.
One cop, looking for revenue, none from me.
One truck changing lanes trying to turn me to pulp, too quick for him.
Lots of bloody traffic lights. mostly red.
Stacks of cars with very unhappy people driving in them, but me with a huge smile.

Trip home was great and enjoyed it all, no problems or issues.
its a great time of the year over here, just coming into summer.

Thanks for the report from your country Woody. Please report in often. It's nice to hear how things are in other parts of the world.

I can say I've never had to worry about a roo on my ride. However, I'll bet you've never stopped for a deer! I did had deer just feet off the road on my ride Sunday. It's the mating season for deer right now and the rut is on big time in Kansas.

Enjoy your summer rides and look out for the idiots in the cages and trucks.

Will, apparently you didn't get a sampling of the entire Land of Oz.

When I rode out this AM it was 39, no fog, and I don't think I can remember a Kansas day without wind.

For the Captain:

I rode.  I didn't speak to anyone, well, except for Tina at the toll booth.

I saw some things.  I passed some folks.  There were things I didn't see.  I didn't pass those things.  I thought some things.  Some things I didn't think.  I think I'll not think the things I don't think.

Here I am.  I plan to ride home this evening.

Raymond, you're east of the line from Salina to Anthony!  Wind gusts in your area should be at or below thirty mph.  Just another day in Kansas.

I must admit that I failed to check the gust forecast this morning.   Embarrassed  I'm beginning to wonder whether I can find someone in Topeka with a trailer so I can get this thing home tonight.   Grin

You must have been going into the wind. I know that blue stirpe VAlk won't go over 66.

I did make it in today and I rode and the wind is blowing harder this morning than when I drove home last night. Go figger, the gusts are tame so no big deal.

5 for 5. The rain stopped before the ride home last night, so this week wasn't completely in the rain. Yesterday they said the wind was going to gust to 40 mph, but I never saw it, but I'm not complaining about missing that.

The trees are still dance in the breeze just fine, and I'm about to hop on the bike and head home for the weekend.
