[ Like all the bashing that has gone on against me on this board... because I hold views different than the majority here.

Strong Eagle, don't assume your views are that different from the majority here. But they are different than the 5 or 6 posters who continually put political stuff on this motorcycle board to try and get affirmation of their views.

The majority just don't care to get involved in the mess.

Several thoughts here:

So Scanner, as I read your reply, how do you figure you are in the majority, not that holding a majority makes a person right one way or the other?

There are tens of thousands of memebers in this club and I don't have a figure as to how many are signed up on this board. I am sure admin can supply us with that info. It seems that only a couple hundred ever post any comments here
and then no more than maybe a 150-200 visitors per day. And if most members don't respond to a post, which the number of views tells you that, how do you figure a majority on any subject, let alone a political post.

... And I like what someone said here the other day, don't say something here that you wouldn't say to my face  Lips Sealed .

Stormrider, First, re-read it slowly...where did I say I was in a majority?  Seems to me you proved my point exactly that the majority don't comment on the BS.

Second, don't fret,  I'll never say something I wouldn't say to your face.

Just an assumtption from your quote. You and SE seem to share similar political views, you state "the majority here", "5 or 6 trying to get affirmation here". These quotes sound familiar? Seems you are putting yourself in the majority which it don't make no never mind with me. And you are right about the silient majority, we've been silent for far too long.

Sounds like you are the one looking for affirmation by slamming someone then hiding behind the keyboard. BTW, they've been flying lots of those helicopters around here lately. Oh yea, they fly all the time, Ft. Rucker is nearby.

And BTW, if you're ever in lower Alabama, look me up, I'll be glad to show you some great rides and I don't mind talking politics, even opposing views. Take care buddy and have a blessed day.

This may be long, so those disinclined to endure copious verbiage for minimal benefit may be well advised to disengage now.  I will not discuss politics, but I will discuss the discussion of politics.

So, interestingly, one person says the President "does not have America's best interest at heart" and the self appointed intellectual elite declares it is an attack on the President's patriotism.

Williow, you miss the point.  Chris is not complaining about his policies, he has stated that the man himself is out to undermine the country.

I don't believe I did miss the point, but I will attempt to more succinctly articulate mine.

We all (speaking literarily and not literally) by definition believe that the candidate we oppose does not have the country's best interest at heart.  If we believe a candidate has at heart the best interest of the country (government, culture, people) and we truly believe that we have the country's best interest at heart, we will not oppose, but will enthusiastically support that candidate.  One person may assert that a particular politician has all the wrong ideas of what is best for the country (government, culture, people) and another may just as quickly assert that a particular politician is too stupid to understand or lacks the integrity to seek what is best for the country (government, culture, people).  Did either imply or declare that the target of his ire lacked patriotism?  Did both?

How do we view patriotism?  Is it the same for us all?  I don't believe it is.  Benedict Arnold believed himself to be a patriot.  Some held George Washington to be a traitor.  Nathan Hale was hanged for his lack of patriotism, but we hold him as an example of the patriot.

The distinction you have attempted to make between your own divisive political expressions and Jeff's reminds me a bit of someone (we won't say who) being escorted away from a baseball field protesting, "Sure, I said he was stupid, crooked, and blind, but I never said he was a horse's ass."

The point is we are likely to be most easily offended by the content of statements which oppose our own beliefs while failing to see the offense within statements with which we agree.  We all need a place that we can go to step back and take an objective (as much as is possible) look at ourselves and our communication.  If we aren't able to do that we will seldom if ever see the abrasion in our own words.

... then there isn't much hope.

I agree.

And I'd really like to understand the mindset of people like Chris who see Obama as malevolent.

It's not that difficult.  Barrack Obama has achieved power, most specifically he has two of the three branches of the government solidly behind him and is likely to gain the third.  His view, his vision of what America should be is very different form the view and vision held by many Americans, and, of course, it is consistent with the view an vision held by an almost equal number of Americans.  We are no longer in a political conflict in which a large majority of Americans hold the same view of what should be done and only differ in how it should be accomplished.  We have for some time now been involved in a full scale cultural tug of war in which the very nature of right and wrong is up for debate.  Barrack Obama is a very real threat to those on one side of the conflict no less than George W. Bush was a threat to those on the other side.

If you can't understand that
then there isn't much hope.

Yes, this is the first political post I have initiated in almost 3 years ...

I've seen this assertion before.  It would honestly be humorous if you and others had not made yourselves such pains in the ass (I say that with as much kindness and affection as can be applied.).  It reminds me a bit of the gunslinger in the old west movie that is just certain that he's the quickest hand in town and goads his victims into a "fair fight" that he might gun them down legally.  Afterwards he always insists, "I've never shot anyone who didn't draw on me first."  We, many if not all of us, saw those scenes re-enacted repeatedly by the schoolyard bullies.

I think we all enjoyed the moment in the old west movie when we got to see the surprised expression on the gunslinger bully's face as he discovered that he wasn't the quickest gun in town.

And, no, I never set myself up as the "self appointed intellectual elite".  You called me that.  Surely you of all people are not resorting to demagoguery... or do you want me to 'dumb down'?

Just as a casual observation, Wayne, only you could set yourself on the throne as the "self appointed intellectual elite".

I would not contend that you had ever used the term for yourself, but the recurring practice of calling people with whom you disagree morons or idiots and their words nonsense seems to imply that view of yourself.

I don't need you to "dumb down".  I don't think anyone does.  I need you to show genuine respect for other people's ability to think.

True wisdom will be recognized by its content.  True wisdom does not need to proclaim the stupidity of its opposition.  The truly wise tend to be very patient with those who need the benefit of their wisdom.  At least such has been my observation.

I could be guilty of demagoguery.  It would not have been my first offense.  I prefer demonization, but demagoguery will do as a substitute.  I'll try to avoid it in the future.

I honestly had simply hoped that I would piss you off enough that you'd go away, but as I type this I find myself strangely hoping that you and I will each find a way to contribute positively to this board and the VRCC.  Alas I cannot freely participate in the "lively debates" but I have chosen this path for myself, so I shouldn't complain.

It's just as well.  When I was younger I was one of those folks to whom Stormrider referred.  I just liked to argue.  I don't really enjoy it that much anymore.  Over the years I have discovered that those who enjoy arguing the most tend to be the least skilled at it.

Oh yes... the bashing... I remember it all well.  Like the physical threats made against me on several occasions that were never removed (the old board).  Like the posts that called my wife a whore that were never removed (the old board).  Like the fellow that threatened to come to my house and shoot me (old board - and never removed).  Like all the bashing that has gone on against me on this board... because I hold views different than the majority here.  And the name calling... lessee... traitor, weak chicken, socialist, communist, and many more... your reading of events is narrow, MM... I've been pounded on far more than I have pounded.  So save me your diatribe about what a nasty fellow I am.  God bless.

As I have requested that my spouse not reply to your reply I will answer for her.  Aren't we glad the old board is gone?

I sincerely regret that someone disrespected your wife and that it was left on the board.  I think the lady has already suffered enough. I'm just kidding, of course.  I'm very certain that it was uncalled for and I hope that it didn't happen on my watch.

As for the other name calling, it has just gotten so convoluted that it's difficult to tell the perpetrators from the victims.  I will make a deal with you.  If you'll do the right thing by stopping your own name calling then I will begin to protect you from the unwarranted barbs of others.

I must tell you that I would have to say that socialist is simply a matter of opinion and labelling rather than name calling.  Communist would definitely be over the line unless Snopes confirmed it.  Along those lines, any further reference to idiot or moron is going to need to be supported by proper medical documentation.

Seriously, is it not our experience that every bully was bullied?  Is it not the cry of every thief that he was robbed more than he has robbed?  Doesn't every malefactor insist that he was a victim before he victimized?  Please, let's just let the bashing cease and let's determine that we will be the first to stop.

Threats are not acceptable as far as I am concerned.  I'm quite sure those didn't take place under my care.

Well there is an exception to that last rule, Wayne, but you're not it.

If you've read this far then I thank you for taking the time.  I hope that we can all begin to move away from some of the denigration that has characterized our political discussions.

Be safe

BINGO...........that hits the nail on the head. This country is divided...and has been ...for some time. George Bush didn't win either election by a large majority, rather by the slimmest of margins (but, and read my lips...HE.........DID...........WIN............fair and square...no matter what conspiracy theorists may wish anyone to believe......the elections were not stolen...or any other such nonsense, any more so than Mr. Obama's election was fair and square......BUT I DIGRESS!). Likewise, Obama did NOT win in a land slide. In all these last elections over the last 12 years or more....if you look at the POPULAR VOTE.............this country is split...............almost divided in half....   A little over half vote for one party. a little under half vote for the other party.

when ONE party wins, are all the people...that other "almost" half...to be considered "morons", "losers", etc? or...do they just have a different vision on what direction this country should or should NOT go?  Likewise, the half who's candidate/party "wins" election, are neither smarter, superior, or any other thing....they're just the half in the drivers seat.........................for now.......

And even if one supports one side or the other, once elected...do those elected officials support ALL that person's beliefs...on EVERY single subject/policy? Doubtful.........very doubtful. And........do they execute what they said they would do toward policy? or..............do things change............once they are in power.........for one reason or another............

We could go on and on. but the bottom line is....the fact is..............this country....in many ways...........IS IN FACT.............divided........in many areas/philosophies/beliefs. The fact we can all find a way to work together and make the system work..........is what has brought us to where we are today.

i hope we can continue to do so....for now as well as into the future. But folks have to realize....when you walk down the street....about half the people you see...may agree with you on many of the policies "your party represents" (but probably not agree with EVERYTHING you believe in!)...and about half the people you see...............DO NOT AGREE WITH YOU or your party...or perhaps on several or many key issues. that's just a fact of life.

It gets even more interesting when they start breaking down things by age, race, sex, education...................but that's a whole 'nother' story for a 'nother' day.................. Cool

Willow,

YOU DA MAN.

Well written post Willow.  I'd use a little yellow guy bowing down in total admiration if I knew where to find one.  In fact, I'd click it two or three times.

I wish I could articulate my thoughts as eloquently (I think that is the word I want to use here) as you have just demonstrated.

Wayne, I am extremely disheartened that you feel you were treated unfairly on the "old board."

Let me start off by saying, I'm not sure why you make the distinction between the old board and the new board.  The format of the board has nothing to do with the moderation of the posts thereon.  Perhaps it is because you know that your veracity cannot be challenged, since we can no longer search that forum.

Now to rehash history.  There was a period of time, quite some time ago (long before the new board), that the bbs became a seething cesspool of bickering, personal insults/attacks and, yes, even threats.  It was so vile that I, as well as my fellow moderators, approached the bbs with unmitigated dread.  We felt like baby-sitters for a hoard of obstreperous children.  Some of the "children" were merely inpetuous, others were much more calculating and actually took delight in seeing just how far they could push their frustrated caretakers.  It was ludicrous to expect that we could ferret out every infraction, particularly considering that the staff had limited time and even less patience for these puerile antics.  It was during this period that this page was added to "Rules of the Road": http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbsrulesoftheroad.htm.

As to you specifically, Beastrider (your former handle) was always in the middle of the fray... instigating and inveigling and then crying foul.
But seriously, don't you think you gave as good as you got??

As to your specific allegations of unfair treatment:
~ Your wife called a whore.  Was meant as an insult to you and got your wife indirectly.  Regardless, it was wrong and was, in fact, pulled.
~ Physical treats.  As stated, threats are not tolerated.  Period.  Any observed threats were pulled.  If we missed one, you should have let us know.
~ Name calling.  We pulled many, many posts, in fact complete threads that had degenerated to the point of no obvious value.  You pounded, you got pounded... I repeat, it was ludicrous to expect that we could ferret out every infraction.  You were not treated any differently than anyone else.  As staff, we really do try to be fair.  In fact, I generally bend over backwards in the other direction if I think I may be biased.

As to why you are "bashed" more than others.  Assuming that's true, I think it has less to do with your politics and more to do with the abrasive manner in which you assert them.

That was funny!!

I remember....I was going to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and told the Rat Dog that I was stopping in Houston "to look someone up"...

Ol' Mr. Spread Eagle (Beastrider) disappeared from the bbs and didn't reappear until I was back home and posted.

Ahh...the good ol' days....when we all wished we could participate with "Beastrider" in one of his "manly" weekends.....beating on drums, chickens and touching other men!

The best I can tell, he removed himself.  I know the Kansas admins, nor myself didn't remove him....and 99.9% of the time we don't ban/remove anyone with a powwow amongst our staff to make sure we are making the right decision.

And unless I missed something, he didn't do anything to get himself banned.

The Varmint lives....well I'll be cursed. I thought you were....well, gone.

Was Strong Eagle removed or did he remove himself from this board?  ... this one was interesting to say the least!

He terminated his own ability to post.  He still does have, as does anyone on the net, the ability to read the boards.

I too found the discussion interesting, possibly even stimulating, and I thought it was conducted for the most part in an uncharcacteristically civil manner.

I have no tears, but I am truly ambivalent of this second exit.   Undecided

No worries, Scanner.  We're all ready to stand up for truth, justice, and the American way.  We just have some seriously diverse ideas of what those terms mean.

We will need to appoint a new Singapore rep.  Any takers?

the silent majority will not get sucked in a all lot of nonsense by a few, waving the stars and stripes, claiming they are more american than anyone who does not see things as they do.
of course ,and i was afraid of this, the name valkyrie will atract the fascist elements who would burn all the books and find some far fetched symbol for their anarchy!
enjoy the ride! and if its that important to you then run for office ,then you might find where the silent majority is! Grin Grin

Well with all the bickering/bantering/name calling going on I thought this might be enlightening to some...

This is being provided for informational purposes. I wish all of America would watch this, and draw there own rational conclusions.

EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH THIS SHOW.

Subject: Sunday, 8-9-2009

Watch this and make up your own mind. Thanks

Received this from a friend whose e-mail stated, "Mark your
calendar - This Sunday, August 9, 2009, on Fox Sean Hannity, of Hannity &
Colmes ~ FoxNews, is going to air a very important documentary about Barack
Obama,  Sunday night at 8:00 PM central / 9 PM eastern.  He stated on the
air this evening that no one in the news media was willing to do this.
Hannity is going back to Obama's earlier days, showing even then his ties to
radical professors, friends, spiritual  advisers, etc., he stated this
evening that he will show in detail his ties to Rev. Wright for 20+ yrs.
How he was participating with this man, and not for the reasons he states!
He has uncovered more of Obama's radical leaders and we will see things that
no one in the media is willing to put out there.   This will be a night that
you will learn more about Obama than ever before Hannity is very passionate
about this program and asked that everyone please, please watch~~
Sunday night, 8 PM. CT; 9 PM ET
Please pass this on to everyone you know. Democrat or Republican,
you can learn from this.
It is critical for our country as we are pushed into marxist
socialism!

Peace  cooldude

Cool. By coincidence, I'm putting together a video on "The Wit and Wisdom of Sean Hannity"!

It will detail his close ties to drug addicts (Limbaugh), serial adulterers (Limbaugh, Gingrich, McCain, Guliani, Sanford, Ensign, ....) certifiably insane cretins (Glen Beck) and Foreign owned propagandists that constantly smear and tear down the USA government (Robert Murdoch owned FOX).

It will be must see TV!

I am sure all the haters are happy now.  When 2 moderators last night joined in with the lunatic fringe, Wayne probably figured there was no use hanging around.  It's a dirty shame that the admin. let a few alienate so many.  Talk about bullies on a playground....and now all the gloating.  This crap makes me sick!

What sickens me, Steve, is when I and others have bent over backwards to allow a wide berth to one who constantly dances on the edge of slander and personal attack (occasionally plunging right in) and then finally when we have decided that enough is enough someone jumps in and insists that he is being persecuted for his politics.  Talk about blind guides!

What few and what many, Steve?  From where I stood it did indeed look as if a few were alienating many, but I don't think we're both seeing with the same level of objectivity.

Please don't lallow yourself to continue to be sickened, Steve.  My personal opinion is that, in this case, your feces doesn't smell so good for sure.

It is this kind of divisive statement that makes ME sick!  You are surely painting with a broad brush calling anyone who doesn't agree with your way of thinking the "lunatic fringe".  I guess you would have to put me in that category as well.  Much better in my mind than being an arrogant elitist  crazy2

I see you removed your post, you must have embarrassed yourself!

The problem with Socialists is they eventually run out of other people's money to spend!

Some people are too stupid to realize how ignorant they are.

Silly question.

Why oh why do all of you allow your chain to be pulled?

Why not ignore ALL the posts from a person and eventually they will fizzle out and their dust will blow away in the wind.

EVERY time you respond YOU give them a reason to return.

No need to reply because I'll never see it.

First of all Steve, Wayne removed his membership BEFORE I posted, so it had nothing to do with 2 moderators, blah, blah.

Second of all, I cetainly did not "join in" with anyone.  Wayne asserted that we had treated him unfairly in the past.  Since I was the primary moderator back then, I felt compelled to defend myself.  I did not mention his politics, nor mine.  In fact, unless one knows me personally, they can't possibly know my politics... I do NOT get involved in political threads.

FYI, e-mails complaining about him crossing the line (back in the day) came from folks on both sides of the political fence.  It's kinda funny (well, not really) that no matter what posts or threads I pulled, I was almost without exception accused of being on the side of the opposition.  I've been a leftist wacko and right wing lunatic all in the same day.  Sheesh!

What's actually a dirty shame, Steve, is that adults force "admin" to be the bad guys.
And what makes sick, Steve, is that "admins" can't even enjoy being members. No matter what we do, we're wrong.

You'd think after all this time that I'd be immune to being disillusioned, but I guess not.

That's nothing... Try admin'ing and/or moderating a saltwater aquarium forum! Sheesh, those people get NASTY!

I've been called a "right wing dumb bubba conservative red neck" and a "left wing commie pinko liberal" literally at the same time. I had PM's sent to me like that at the same time, FOR THE SAME ACTION I'd taken!

Always remember, if you're getting yelled at from both sides, you're doing a good and balanced job...  Wink
