WOW!  How do you explain that?

Well, I can explain it now after pulling off the other side and giving everything a good look. but instead of naming names I'll just blame the stoopid mistake on "the guy" that does the maintenance on my bikes.

The spacers were on the right side and not the left side.  I guess that guy that does all of my maintenance installed the right side first and when I, err, he got to the left side there were no spacers to install so just bolted it all up.   Embarrassed

I knew there were no left over spacers last time the bags and supports were off.   tickedoff

Don't be too hard on your maintenance guy.  After all, he did catch it before it became a road accident/issue.

All parts have arrived but one

Luckily I don't have to wait for it.  Now for the scary part, rebuilding my first pair of forks (I may be asking for assistance if I lose my confidence).

Those look great, Chuck!  One-coat gloss black?  Flat + clear?  Did your coater require the sliders be removed from the lowers before coating or did he do them with the sliders attached?  Mine wants them disassembled.

Gloss black with clear on the forks and turn signal clamps, he did not require the sliders to be removed and did a beautiful job again (second time I've used them).  Single coat of dark red on the calipers, no clear coat.

I inquired on the tech board about removing the tubes and the response was I'd probably destroy them before getting them apart; one guy that wanted just the bottoms because the tubes were bent even tried using a pipe wrench and was unable to get them to unscrew.  I called my PC guy and he said bring 'em as is.

Installed LED headlight. Was a paid cause the wire clips would not work. Had to make new wire spring clips to holt them in.

Need to find someone in Houston area at night with another IS so we can compare.

They are too bright to look at and probably illegal.

That is a fan on the back side that you actually hear when you turn on the key.  The current draw is so low that I am getting 14.2 VDC on my digital volt meter.

Yes the wire did come from a coat hanger.

got it rechromed for me...

Another day of riding lost to garage time.

Installed the Batwing, took longer than usual due to trying not to scratch up the powder-coating.

Didn't get the Batlashes working yet, I must have bumped something in the light bucket and have no power to them.

The rest of the LED's are working now.

I really like my Mustang bib and really like my filler cover but they wouldn't happily live together, I finally decided to start cutting the bib until I had it trimmed enough to mount the cover over it.

Me like!

They didn't make the rotor cover lights in red, I assume due to laws about red lights on the front of vehicles, one of these days I may strip out the blue and add red.

The lights behind the bolt covers were once upon a time made by a Valk Club member out in Arizona, you could probably have a plastic shop make some for you, it's just a triangle-ish of plastic with some holes in it and a grove cut in the center to add some LED's.  I thought the white lights looked cool and are legal to have on any time I want them on.

Haven't started the bike since May of 2015. Got it fired up this morning, took a while... Noticed the final drive is leaking. Not from the drain, but from the internal seals. Had a small puddle in the rear wheel, and oil is seeping up the outside of the swingarm. Nothing hit my garage floor, though. I guess they dried up/rotted. Who knows, but the seals are shot. I took it out for about 10 miles, got it good and warmed up. Had a chuckle at the difference in performance between the Valkyrie and the new bike. Really made me miss the Valk.

Changed the 2 yr. old oil (probably shouldn't have as it looks like I'll be draining it again before she goes back together), got it jacked up and got the front half of the bike torn down. Upon looking under the bike I was amazed at how bad she's gotten. I rode this bike almost all of the winter of 2014. Had a bad ice storm that year, and the salt they put down really did a number on the bike. Really. I didn't know that when I parked it for the last time before I bought the Wing, and when I realized what I'd done, it was too late. Damage was done. I'm actually ashamed that I let her get this bad. She'll be good as new soon enough, though.

I will say that most of the Honda chrome held up well, with the exception of the heat shields on the exhaust. All the aftermarket stuff is now garbage, including the Progressive 440's. (what a waste). The kickstand mount is pretty bad, some of the clutch cover bolts are worrying me as they're in really, really bad shape. Water pump bolts are also scaring me. I can't see any corrosion/rust on the frame, not yet anyway. Some of the screws on the airbox got it bad... Was developing a pretty bad wobble before I parked it, and with the wheel and fairing off the reason was evident. Steering head bearings are shot. With no weight on the forks it seemed like I could feel every bearing move. Out they come.

Anywho, I'll take care of all of it. Coming apart is easier than going back together, so I may the that guy with a ton of questions soon.

Pictures really don't do justice as to how bad she's gotten, but here's my progress. Next Sunday the back half of the bike comes apart and then I'll be dropping the engine for cleaning/repairing. Once all is cleaned and repaired, parts will go in for powder coating and paint. This will probably take me several months to complete.

It begins.

Running out of room.

To give an idea of how bad she's gotten...

New bike sans trunk.

Installed new Cool White LEDs in my speedometer and tachometer.
They're much brighter, and much easier to read at night. I bought several brands, but went with the Cool White bulbs by superbrightleds.com.

**On the left, original bulb from factory.
**On the right, part# T10 5-5050SMD Cool White, sold by ARTR  on amazon.com

I didn't like either one of these.

**On the left, part# WLED-CW5: Cool White, sold by superbrightleds.com
**On the right, part# T10 5-5050SMD Cool White, sold by ARTR  on amazon.com

I liked the one on the left, so now both sides have that.
