My guess is Houghton Lake is ground zero, in which the town and lake are the same name. It is also about one hour from Traverse City which is also the name of the bay which is on the boarder of Lake Michigan.

Decent reasoning, Capt., but Houghton Lake appears to be on the middle finger.

Wow! just heard that it was going to be near Bay City.
Yeah,...go Bay City Banshees!

Y'all remember the boy band from the seventies,...the Bay City Rollers? Yeah, real heavy man.

Forget Traverse City and the fudgie tourists, Bay City has an old Polish community that is big on tradition. I'm talking, Polkas, Kielbasa, Perogis, and stuffed cabage.

Party on Garth!

The city of Flint is just south of Bay City. So you can drive by and say good-bye to the automobile industry too.

No cigar yet.  The name of the lake and town have a certain atmospheric ring to them.

Carl,

I loved the last clue. Nice job.

This thread is a riot.

Apparently I erred.

There are two bays on the lake with the same name as the state that contains the city of the name of the bay.  Our bay is the Grand one, not the plain old ordinary one.  Of course, the city is not the grand one, but the name that is the same as the plain old ordinary bay which also would be the same as the grand bay if it just weren't grand.

I hope this small inaccuracy hasn't caused anyone an unnecessary inconvenience.

Certainly looks like Grand Traverse Bay to me, beautiful area and great riding on the Lelanau penninsula as well as just North by Harbor Springs and the "tunnel of trees".

Grand Traverse Bay? Traverse City? Spent lots of time there as a kid. Gots to go over the bridge & get some pasties... Putting this in my dance card, wherever it is. They have a great cherry festival there, too. In the 50's, we (all-girl polka band) rode in the  parade in a Navy duck, and the driver took us out into Lake Michigan. Wow, I'm dating myself... of course at this age, it's hard to get anyone else to do it...

Are there BIG Lakes around it or small lakes like this one...?

Are there roads close by that are surrounded by trees like this...?

Ok everyone, now you have the date and location, so start your planning.

PLEASE, DO NOT call the hotel!!
To get the rates where we needed them, we had to do some fancy footwork.
We'll be doing things a bit differently this year... basically, the VRCC will be making the reservations and turning them over to the hotel when complete.  It's a little bit risky this way, but if we work together, I'm confident we can make it work.  Details will be forthcoming as soon as we can get all the them worked out.

More than ever, we're really counting on your support and patience.  Thanks in advance!

It's going to be an awesome event!!!!!!!

Folks, Shanty Creek is a wonderfull place it is one of the top skiing resorts in the state. So with that the views from the hotel are amazing. There are many older hisorical towns to visit with quaint little shops and eateries. One of my favorites is Grand Traverse Pie Company in the Gas Light District of Petosky, about an hour from this resort. This is going to be exciting!!!

Bellaire is located about 35 miles northeast from Traverse City...in one of the most beautiful area's of our State....Shanty Creek is a resort that is second to none...

first class all the way....it is located about 1-2 miles east of Bellaire in the scenic hills of northwestern Michigan...The area is well known by Michigan bikers for many years...there are miles and miles of roads surrounded by old growth hardwood trees and the fresh scents of pine tree forests

....long sweeping curves and rolling hills are prevalent to this area
...beautiful picturesque Lakes and towns are dotted throughout the area
...from Shanty Creek you are within 85 mi of Mackinaw City and the Mackinaw Bridge

...85 miles to Cross Village via the Tunnel of Trees a twisty road on the bluff's of Lake Michigan

To the south and west you have Traverse City the Cherry Capitol of the world...the town is located at the base of Grand Traverse Bay...many shops and restaurants in this picturesque city on the bay...lighthouses and Vineyards along with cherry trees and peach groves surround this whole area...the Leelanau Peninsula has miles and miles of National scenic roads for your enjoyment ....our club in Michigan is full of great people and we are extremely excited that Michigan has been chosen...we will do our best to welcome all of our brothers and sisters to our Great State and we will work with the Staff to ensure everyone will enjoy their time here at Inzane X
