. . ....I agree with Stich on this one....if you,re comming from the Ohio state line....you,ll pass by Detroit....Saginaw....Ann Arbor.....major traffic flow....lots of.."people".....

How can you miss all that? What if you come up through Jackson, Lansing and Mt. Pleasant?
Or... ?

. . ....if you,re comming up I75...one way you can go is.... pick up 23/475 South of Toledo ....stay on 23 North to I75.....I75 runs straight through the heart of Michigan all the way to the Mackinaw bridge....someone from down state may know a better way..

Mike, and anyone else coming from the eastern side (or southern side) of the country.  Pull up Google maps, or look at your paper maps (if anybody uses those anymore).  Don't panic, there are a dozen ways to motor up to northern Michigan - all of them should be just fine - all we're suggesting is to NOT ride up thru downtown Detroit, because it is very busy, just like any major city will be.  You need to decide if you want the freeway, or 2-lanes. Back roads will obviously take you longer, but will be some really fine riding, all the way there.

 Timbrwolf,
That map was the wrong one, thank you. Let's try this one.   cooldude

I am going to check on next summers gas prices in Canada before I commit to this route.
3,615 miles. Around 2,500 in Canada. I try and get to Helena, MT thru Calgary, as I have a freind there and I lay over after the first leg of my summer trips out.

I haven't been to an InZane yet, I may finally be in a position this year to do so. What type of attendence numbers can be expected as far as both bike registration and people. I have attended a couple of the Honda Hoots. I would really enjoy seeing what others have done with thier Valkyries and how some accessories have been adapted. Mine are basiclly stock and get many second looks from folks that usually don't realize what they are looking at. Not to many Valkyries at most of the events I have attended. If I have understood correctly there has been "clinics" on maintenance and ridding technic ? Are these clinics usually included in the regestration cost ?

Somewhere between 200 and 500.  I'm hoping for 600, but if we hit 700 we'll have a logistics problem.

Any tech sessions are certainly included in the registration cost.  We're not exactly like the Honda Hoot.   Wink

You DEFINITELY need to come then, only about 9-10 hours away for ya ...... sheeeezzzzz - look at Al from Alaska !!!!!

You state that you get many looks from others, and on your STOCK bike !!   Come on along, you'll see 300-400 of the most beautiful bikes on planet Earth.  That's my only problem with InZanes .... your 'special ride' out there in the normal world, isn't so special lined up against 400 other gorgeous Valkyries. You'll be seeing special parts, add-ons, modifications like you have never even thought about.

Welcome to Michigan!! I have never been able to attend this event before but seeing as it is only about 2.5 hours from home and I now have the time, my wife and I will be attending for the entire event. I think those from out of state will really enjoy the area. Shanty Creek is a winter ski resort. I have just got off the phone with the wife of the owner of Chain O'Lakes Campground after having made a reservation for the event duration. I have never camped here before but the web site info/pictures and the owners dialogue make it sound good. I told her I would pass along their information for others to look into. They have regular campsites, pull-thru's, large back-ins, 30-50A sites and I believe all are full connections. They also have cabins. Her husband has been out of work due to an illness (cancer treatment ?) and they could use the business. I have no affiliation with this campground but told her that I would share their business with you and she was very appreciative of any business we could send their way.  The campground is Chain O'Lakes Campground  7231  S. M-88 Hwy  Bellaire, MI 49615  Ph. (231) 533-8432  She said they are right next to Shanty Creek in a woodsy setting.  Web site  www.chainolakescamp.com     See Ya All there!

Looking forward to meeting you...here I'll tell you how to get there....

First cross over to the U.S. look down from the bridge and you'll see this...

next get back on this road and head south....about 50 miles

Till you come to this little bridge....

Go over the Bridge and turn right...take the road to this little restaurant and have lunch....

Now when your done with lunch...take this little road south about 20 miles...be careful though you can't see much because of all the trees covering the road...there are some steep dropoffs just off the road...

..when you get to the end of that road just turn right again ...you will travel this road through a few small towns all full of artsy stuff and small stores and restaurants...

...along h this road you will also see alot of things to do with boats and harbors and that kind of coastal stuff....

Keep going until you come to this little town...

...then turn left till you see this road...

...keep going you will go under this bridge...

...you will come to this guy ...turn right...

...pay attention to the road because you may get distracted by the views...

...now drive up to this place and check in....

..we all will be in here waiting to welcome you...

...The center lane in each direction is grating...this allows the air to flow through the bridge...the outer lanes are paved...

I'l answer that one. It is actually about a 30 minute ride from the "Big Mac" bridge to a small town called Cross Village. There you will find the resturant shown in the picture. It has authentic P{olish food as well as some very unusual decor. The resturant is called the "Legs Inn". Yes that is the name and it comes from the items shown on the edge of the roof. Look very closely and you will find that the edge of the roof is lined with "legs". Remember the "leg lamp" in the Christmas movie with the boy that wanted the BB gun? These legs are shown with the foot up. You can ride south om M-119 from the resturant to a town called Harbor Springs, about a 20 mile curving, tree lined, shoreline, wonderful ride along Lake Michigan. About another 1 1/2 hours to Bellaire, MI site if INZANE X.

Me and my wife Lisa are really looking forward to InZane X.  We have been through Michigan twice, once from the north via across Canada and once from the south via the good ol USA. This will be our first InZane rally even though we've been on our Valk since July of 2000.  We will be coming up from North Carolina and if one can read a map Detroit is easily avoidable.  Stay off the interstates and see small town America.

Will there be organized rides to go exploring?  Whitefish Point and the Great Lakes Museum would be a great destination if it is within riding distance.

Both those destinations are within riding distance of Ground Zero, and would make a good stop on a day ride.  I live in Michigan and haven't been to the Museum yet.

Its roughly 165 miles one way to Whitefish Point from Bellaire. That route was staying off of I-75.

It's going to be a homecoming for me, and will be going via Detroit, Redford Township, Northville, and then wherever the wind blows me. We had a summer place in Curtis in the UP, and know some great places for native trout, but the properties may have changed hands, that was back in the '60's, but heck, there's only one way to find out. Guess I'll need to show up early so as to not miss any of the festivities.  Can't wait!

Thanks, CharlieMac.

I have the dates on my calender already.  Just waiting to make reservations!
I am thinking about going around to the north one way, and go on the ferry across the lake the other way.  Does one need to make ferry reservations for that time period, or do they always have room?
