http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2018/04/05/millennials-flat-earth-survey/

A new survey has found that a third of young millennials in the U.S. aren’t convinced the Earth is actually round. The national poll reveals that 18 to 24-year-olds are the largest group in the country who refuse to accept the scientific facts of the world’s shape.

YouGov, a British market research firm, polled 8,215 adults in the United States to find out if they ever believed in the “flat Earth” movement. Only 66 percent of young millennials answered that they “always believe the world is round.” Science teachers across the U.S. will be shaking their heads after learning that nine percent of young adults answered that they have “always believed” the planet was flat.

Another nine percent said of young adults said they thought the planet was spherical but had doubts about it. In a disturbing display of indecision, 16 percent of millennials said they weren’t sure what the shape of the planet was.

Overall, only two percent of the respondents said they always thought the Earth was flat without any doubt. YouGov found that age was directly connected to Americans’ views on the shape of the world. Seventy-six percent of adults age 25-34 say they’ve always believed the Earth is round, compared to 82 percent of ages 35-44, 85 percent of ages 45-54, and 94 percent of adults 55 and over.

So you are saying that we are not entitled to our opinions of some of today's youth. Are you the only one who is allowed to have an opinion? Hmmm, how liberal of you.

One of the high school boys on one of the buses I drive was saying the Earth was flat.

I asked him what was on the other side?

Late Friday night/early am Saturday this was discussed a bit on Coast to Coast AM with fill in host Jimmy Church.  I think he said only 4 percent were in total belief of flat earth, but still a large percentage that are not sure.  Of note to myself is that 94 percent of angy old motorcycle riders in my age group are totally convinced the earth is round.  What the heck did we learn that the youth is not?   All going according to plan.

Yeah, me too....had a good chuckle over his comment actually. Maybe it's because I fall into the class of riders he's talking about....."old men riding motorcycles." (or really old men riding motorcycles  Grin)

I've often said about the young'uns....generally under 30 but often higher....they seem to have all the answers but are too young to even know what the questions are yet. Even more so if under ~22. I have a granddaughter that when at that age was always arguing with her mom, verbal abuse was rampant until one day I happened to stop by and observed. I first put my arms around her, then quietly asked her how old her mother was....then how old she was. Her mother, my 2nd daughter, was more than twice her daughters age at the time, I asked the granddaughter who did she think had more of life's experience(re. the particular subject of the moment). A lot of tears on gramps shoulders followed. The girl is brilliant, started college as a first semester junior direct from high school, her sisters were much the same. But as I pointed out that day, what education you have so far is mostly out of books. Once on your own, life suddenly becomes the teacher and you "study" for the final exam your entire life.

I have also noticed that you can't stand not having the last word. You have an opinion for everything. You just can't let a thread go by without posting. Have to be the center of attention don't ya?

It's gone along with several other posts that involved either personal attack or quoted those posts.

There's a handful of you that could stand to reread the Rules of the Road .  It wastes a good deal of my time to address these occasions when you feel it necessary to piss at one another.  If you just don't like someone put him on your ignore list and don't reply to his posts.

Refer to my post and the direction to place people you know you don't like on your ignore list and do not respond to them.  There are a handful of people that as an administrator I should not place on an ignore list but I will not respond to their posts.

Carl, I have a technical question, if I may.

When you pull a post or two from a thread, it appears the automatic thread counter (at the top of each post) just recalculates, so there remains no indication that any were pulled.  Is that how it works?

When I (rarely) pulled posts over on Delphi, there was a straight line across with the thread number and it boldly state DELETED.  I kind of liked that it showed the membership that this could/did happen. It served a purpose.  Of course, I only had about 15-20 regulars who rarely needed correction.

I thank you for your service (and am sorry it's needed).
