Judging by the photo I would say the bike was up on a "stand" and being worked on when it fell on the owner.....no "skid" marks or other signs of a moving "fall"?!?!?! We will see.  |

This was a hard stop, meaning BobB is lucky to be alive and that is the important thing. Broken ribs means he is going to hate laughter and sneezes for a while. Can't tell for sure but looks like the rotor might be bent as well. Some impact for sure. As for the ribs; OUCH! Been there, done that, not fun. As a youth I played half a football game with two cracked ribs, still have an uneven rib outline on one side. Of course I haven't seen my ribs in some years.....  |

I thought maybe that’s what happened. A couple years back we came upon a Kawasaki rider who had done the same. A lady pulled out in front of him, he went right trying to avoid the car . The impact sent him into the metal of the guard rail the wreck exposed. 20 lbs. of his chest area was just hanging. Take care |

The bike can be replaced, the ribs are a little tougher to find after market parts for.

When I broke mine the Doc said I broke 3 ribs, 5 through 8.

Try to noodle that one with a snoot full of morphine..
Anyway, take it easy on the pain meds. Oxy and or Vicodin can make you puke. I am here to tell you the narcotic effects of those DO NOT KILL ENOUGH PAIN TO BE PUKING WITH BUSTED RIBS.

Bob hope you heal up quick and glad your injuries weren’t more serious. Rest up and feel better soon.
As for the bike, she looks a little banged up but not terminal. Hope that pain will fix up pretty easily for you.

12 is better than 6 feet under which hitting sharp edged metal guardrails can be lethal if hit the wrong way.
My best friends mom in high school died when his drunk dad came home with his mom in an old 1970's boat machine (big metal 4 door Chrysler car) and split the car near in half with the passenger side going thru the guard rail she did not have a chance was horrible.
Consider yourself lucky I would say and grateful you are still here to ride another day although maybe on a different cycle in the future even though am sure now you do not feel lucky, I would say you are.

Update: Seven broken ribs sucks big time, but I’m out of the ICU and in a regular hospital room. The Mayo Clinic is treating me nice.
As for the Valk, it’s condition is uncertain. Front end is destroyed, tank is dented, I believe that there is no frame damage. If insurance totals it out, right now I think I would let it go. That would be a shame as it has accessories that most of you would drool over. But that decision is largely a statement of my condition and not the bike’s. I sincerely believe that I escaped death, once again. I often thought that Lady Val would be the last bike I’d ride and here we are...
I would welcome thoughts from my VRCC brothers and sisters...

Bob, if they offer a total and you want to take it, you may still be able to go to it and remove a bunch of stuff, if you want another Valk. If you are healthy enough to do that before it goes to some salvage outfit that charges to remove stuff. Maybe you can drag that decision out for a while (so it sits where it is).

Wow,this is my second post to your horrific experience. Please get well!!,you are a LUCKY DAWG! to be alive.
I had a 2005 wing that I totaled on the Garden State Parkway in 2006. The bike was ride able and I rode it home parked in my garage where the adjuster determined it was totaled.
I did remove most of the undamaged accessories and put them on my 2006 wing.

Glad that you're doing well enough to post here.
Sorry about your experience.
Lots of good advice here.
Ice is right take the time to heal yourself first before you make a decision about what to do with the bike.
Tell the adjuster that you are on too many pain pills right to now to make any decisions (even if it isn't true).
That will buy you some time.
It is still your bike don't let them convince you that it isn't.
If need be have it taken to your house or a friends place so that there aren't any storage fees and then you cn take your time to make a decision.
If it were me and i didn't feel like it was worth repairing I would still remove all of the accessories first.
Especially the ones that are made out of "Unobtanium".
The insurance is not figuring them into the price that they offer you anyway and if you decide not to get another Valk you can sell them to some of us.
I don't know where you live but i am sure that there are some of us around that can help you with moving your bike if need be.
Take care and take the time to heal.

While healing up from my unload in Aug of 16 I was also torn bout ridin again. Mine was rideable after the unload all that happened was a broken ankle and bruised pride. SHE stayed in her cave til it warmed up in 17 and after I got her fired up and warmed up and riding around burning up the Old gasoline she were no longer-FOR SALE. I am still riding and enjoyin it. Granted-I did NOT unload as hard as yo did but I am also 73 years old now. Get healed-body first Valkyrie second-git yer head screwed back on straight BEFORE you make ANY decisions. Do NOT let the insurance company pressure you. Eff em-they WILL wait til yer better. Unobtainium harder and harder to come by!  RIDE SAFE. |
