So the 50th anniversary of the moon landing is upon us and there has been an uptick from those that do not believe it happened (I do) and the other day i spoke with someone I work with this is a Flat Earther...so I thought I would ask this group. Who believes we did not land on the moon or that the earth is flat...or both.

Nasa knows the moon is flat, like the earth. They actually did send rockets up
there, but they approached from the edge instead of the surface, so they
kept missing it.

We have several kinds of "holes" (mines, wells, caves, lakes, oceans) in the ground, some that go fairly deep. In the western Pacific, I think, the Mariana Trench is about 35,000 feet deep. None have come out on the other side so I ask a question:

Out of curiosity, anyone know the thickness of the "edge"?

Anyone dumb enough to believe the earth is flat shouldn't own or ride a motorcycle.  As far as the lunar landing, we didn't have the video technology to fake it in the 60's.

We put a man on the moon.

The moon and the Earth are round (spherical) bodies.  To suggest otherwise is utter nonsense.

The earth is flat. But the earth is not smooth. An ocean trench on one side is a mountain range on the other. And there is no real "flat" edge but an edge like a frisbee. In fact, the frisbee was designed to look like the earth. The moon is obviously a wheel of green cheese. Everybody know this. It needs to age more. That was what the Apollo missions were about. Checking the aging of the cheese.

Lololol that was the most intelligent explaination of a flat Earth I have heard. Thanks for the laugh.

The Flat Earthers actually say that the edges are ice mountains like an edge. I think the funniest thing about the FE's is that they have no issue with the globularity of other bodies in space.

Easy to dispell the FE's, just consider a great circle flight from NYk to London or Paris. If the earth were flat, a straight line would be the shortest route. But since the earth is rather round, a straight line flight is longer than a great circle flight to the same destination.

I'd say a great circle route is the straightest and shortest route between two points on the surface of a sphere. cooldude

i got out of the military in 1992. headed west out of Detroit until i got to Detroit. it took almost 5 months and 23900 miles with all the mucking about. i headed west the whole time, by road, by train track, by boat. never saw the edge, so maybe its not flat, but a Mobius strip moving east/west ?

We went to the moon.  There is proof, completely undeniable.  Several laser reflectors were left up there, which when struck by an earth-based laser, gives us precise date on the Moon's distance from earth based on the time for the beam to get back to earth.
I don't know even how to argue with the FE's though. They have some very weird notions of physics and use pseudo-scientific nonsense words to "prove" it.

For me the real story were the UFO craft that surveilled, and sometimes at very close distance on every Lunar trip.  A lot of those Apollo astronauts became aware another presence was with them.  Some kept it close to themselves, some would mention it briefly, and some were very vocal on their thoughts.

I was  always amazed as well as perplexed but, after reading about the ice mountains being the edges of the earth. I finally know how the water is kept from running off the edges. That is how I always knew the earth is not round. There is absolutely no way water will stay in place on a round surface. Just think about it.

Now I finally understand where the missing passengers that were in the jets that hit the world trade center went. I have read the theory's on how the jets were actually packed full of extra fuel tanks with no passengers aboard and that the people were being held somewhere.

Clearly they just flew off the end of the earth over the top of the ice mountains are now out in space somewhere.  This is a game changer!  uglystupid2 2funny

My response is that the earth is not flat, sort of spherical, you can see it easily when you are high enough up.

Yes we landed on the moon.  And just think that was 50 years ago.  We went back several times.

But I have a question to ask as well.

Are we, homo sapiens, the only intelligent life form in the galaxy we call the Milk Way?  If yes, why?  If no, why?

(Yes I know this changes the context of this thread)

What a load of BS!  The planes were hijacked, no extra fuel, there is plenty on a plane like that already.  The passengers all died in the crash. It's not a mystery.

You are terribly misinformed. The planes were not hijacked, that's what THEY want you to believe. The former passengers of that flight were taken to a hidden location and different planes that were packed with fuel and explosives were deliberately flown into the WTC center to give the impression that this was done by middle east terrorists to justify the USA's retaliatory attacks.

I used to work with someone whom I formerly regarded as reasonably intelligent that actually believed that and apparently he wasn't the only one.

Yes, we landed on the moon. The Apollo program, in general, is probably the greatest engineering achievement of the modern era IMO.

Just to transcribe the transparency of cross-function team collaboration it took to design and manufacture the Saturn V rocket. (Some useless knowledge of the day)

The second stage of the Saturn V rocket, being manufactured by North American Aviation at Seal Beach California (a big surfing town).

Engineers continued to fail at applying the new honeycomb design insulation used to stop the liquid hydrogen & oxygen fuel in the tanks from boiling in the California sun. After admitting defeat, Engineers and project managers reached out to the local surfers in the area, as it came to there knowledge that new surf board designs utilized the same type of insulation, and surfers were well skilled in the application as most of them built there own boards.

So NAA hired surfers to assist in the manufacturing process of laying the insulation between fuel tanks on the Saturn V rocket 2nd stage.

SO! California surfers helped get us to the moon..... Far Out bro????  cooldude cooldude cooldude

Round earth - yep

moon landing - nope.  I use to believe that you guys did until I saw a documentary about three mile island disaster and wondered why they couldn't use space suits to clean it up.  I found out that space suits filter UV radiation, but not much else.  Also, past the Van Allen belt is a whole different ball game from what astronauts experience on the space station.  But, if some third party happens to go there and takes viewable pictures of the moon landing then I would change my mind again.  The pictures that NASA have are pretty much useless.
