People on the right offering any kind of defense for the offending act of the governor, real or exaggerated, just does not fully get what this is all about. The left is eating their own with the me too, Kavanaugh, racism, immigration and all the fake outrage movement that is aimed at overturning the election of Donald Trump. They throw their own to the wolves because of their hatred for President Trump. Thus the governor must resign. so when they dig up any evidence of racism, they can justify, protest, riot, refuse to cooperate and eventually rid themselves of the peoples president. It would have been much better for them had it been a Republican, but it's not their hatred for racism, it's their hatred for the President that consumes them.

In all this I have yet to hear why the men were dressed as they were in the photo. I see shear irrationality to go from zero to total absolute condemnation with out wanting to know why they were dressed like that in the first place.
Could it have been part of a skit slamming the KKK and/or racism?
To date, this issue not withstanding, there has been no display whatsoever of any continuing or chronic institutional racism on the part of the Governor. Get a video of him burning crosses on the front yard of a black family then you got something. But there is nothing really there except a strange photo in a yearbook with no context whatsoever.
I deeply am opposed to his political bend but that doesn't mean it is open season on the guy.
And even if this plays out to be an ill advised event he participated in, does his career mirror that isolated event?
If this is to be the standard then it should be the standard for all. Tax returns? We don't need no tax returns (and we don't). We need your high school year book and kindergarten report card.
If the gov was smart, he would have explained it like this... The similarities are obvious to the left.

the twisted up bs some people will spout is truly amazing. It is quite possible that those of left of you see it for what it is. A boneheaded act by a 25 year old man. It has absolutely nothing to do with the hole Trump has dug for himself.

He initially admitted to a stupid, racist act. Afterwards trying to backtrack from that only makes him look even more complicit and dumb.

Looking at the photo, I can't see any good way for the Gov to explain it, or justify it. Esp if he was the guy in the hood, though the blackface is only marginally better. He doesn't admit to being either (and I wouldn't either). And, he has to keep in mind there is at least one other guy who probably knows the whole story, if that guy's not dead. Any attempt at explanation probably just buries him deeper, and subjects him to another round of media and political attacks.
To me, on it's face, it's nothing more than a picture of a klansman and a fancy-dan dressed up black man apparently socializing and sharing a drink of alcohol, friendly-like. The utter irony of this ever actually happening makes it slapstick in the extreme (quite similar to the way Mel Brooks wove race, the klan, extreme stereotypes and comedy into his Blazing Saddles). Most agree Blazing Saddles could probably not be made today, but it was funny as hell when it was released (and remember The Producers, and the Springtime for Hitler musical, with Jewish people?)
It was in poor taste back then, and nearly political suicide today.
This is only my guess at an explanation, and I could be wrong, but I bet I'm not. Add alcohol into the mix, as in the text in the yearbook entry and you have your recipe for poor judgment.
Blazing Saddles came out in 1974, and his yearbook was in 1984.
And Signart, you make a very good point. Sacrifices must be made to push the aganda of the radical left.... they always have.

I don't believe the man is a racist, at least now, and doubt if he even thought about it then. He just thought he was being funny and having a few beers. Setting up the racism trap for Trump.
Oh, he's out of here though and anyone that hires him will be broken down, it's how they roll.

I'm just saying there is more to the photo than racist exuberance.
My thought when I first saw this was Springtime for Hitler. The Blazing Saddles reference is even better. I see no reason why Blazing Saddles couldn't be made today. It wasn't racist. It impugned racism. There's a bloody difference. Anyway, I thought that this was a photo of a couple guys in some sort of skit. Clearly you wouldn't just do all that just for horsing around or for some kind of joke.
There was significant effort in those costumes. Has to be a reason. There is just more to this and I think it is just getting buried by the Democrats and the Media's irrational rage over it. Nobody is asking why. Everybody should.
As to the Governor apologizing, what choice did he or does he have? He's being condemned by his own folks and the media. He needs to tell what led to this photo and why. Good or bad.
As I said prior, there is nothing, at least to date, that suggest he's an institutional racist or bigot and even the photo, while distasteful out of context, doesn't reveal anything.
As to how this relates to Trump, signart is dead on the money on this. The Democrats are out to lower the standards of politics in the hopes of holding Trump to these ever changing standards. This effort has been tried and true in the past. It doesn't seem to work on Trump. He's not a career political guy. His political capital does not come from within the political establishment. So while the Democrats think they constantly hit the target, it has no effect and they wind up taking out their own.

It goes on and on as the Lieut Gov now accuses the Gov of leaking his alleged past sexual harassment.
Gee America sure is a racist hell hole. That's why hundreds of thousands want to come live here.
Keep on letting the politicians, press and other wanna be important talking heads keep thrashing you into a frenzy.
It's pathetic.
Then there's the f wit "professor" bleating that the film "Mary Poppins" was racist.
So sad that many slack jawed, droolers sit there nodding their vacant eyed heads in agreement.

To Quote Hillary Clinton..."At this point, what difference does it make" The Democrats have been running around all amped up with their hair on fire for two years accusing Trump Conservatives of being Racists, attempting to erase history by tearing down Statues, attempting to ruin the lives of accomplished people like Brett Kavanaugh, and on, and on...now they are whining and crying about one of their own being targeted. ...AGAIN!!...when you weaponize cries of Racism and Misogyny...Eventually "what goes around comes around" It's about time these pathological hypocrites shed their soiled diapers and start wearing "Pull-Ups" on some kind of path to maturity.

I believe since Kavanagh was a federal judge, his appointment was lifetime. But you're correct about him trying to find a job outside of government.

Bottom line...We all did stupid things in our teens and twenties...Northam needs to put the Big Boy pants on and admit to it once and for all...it's not the act, it's the denial that will do him in. And now another example in the unbroken chain of manufactured news NBC is going after Tulsi Gabbard accusing her of Russian ties. The Lefties even eat their own if they don't carefully line up with Subscribed Group-Think.

As of this morning (the last I had checked) he still hasn't resigned, inspite of the political leaders from both sides urging him to. I hope he stays just to piss all of them off. He didn't break any laws, so how is the VA legislature going to impeach him ?

Somebody had that picture tucked away and waiting for the right moment to surface.
This SCHMUCK of a human being talks about end of life discussion of an infant who is already born and it just brought waaaaaaaay to much attention to the abortion until birth movement that was gaining a head of steam.
So, out comes the race card, er, um picture and instead of being the poster child for the left's abortion until birth, he's now defending himself against racism.
Now, should he be held accountable for his MEDICAL school antics (not high school, not even college, this is 4 years after college and already treating patients) ? A few years ago I would have said NO. However, the left has railroaded to many fine people in recent years that it's only fair to deal with one of theirs as they have dealt with their opposition. Ford's accusations never should have made it to floor of congress with ZERO corroboration or proof, yet they tried to destroy a man over it. This guy should get the same treatment.
And his Lt. Governor should be dealt with the same way as well. I believe her!!! Guilty before proven innocent!!!!!!! The Democrats set the precedent. Accusations are good enough. Heck, it's only job interviews right?

Maybe it's something in the water. Heck, I've lived here (VA) for 26 years so far, and had no irresistible urge to go blackface yet. However, I mostly only drink bottled water. But somebody better keep an eye on me anyway.

They got Megan Kelly for asking whether blackface during Halloween when she was growing up was racist, they almost dragged her off the set. They got poor ole Roseanne. They are looking at the Virginia statehouse janitor's yearbook, so far so good. He/she/it could be the next governor.

And it just keeps getting worse-now they've been informed that in 2004, hundreds of Virginia theaters showed a movie with two of the Wayans brothers in whiteface, directed by a third Wayans! There won't be room in the unemployment line for everybody they need to demand to resign.

AP-VA- The string of scandals that began when the yearbook picture came to light last Friday could have a domino effect on Virginia state government: If Northam and Fairfax fall, Herring would be next in line to become governor. After Herring comes House Speaker Kirk Cox, a conservative Republican. At the Capitol, lawmakers were dumbstruck over the day's fast-breaking developments, with Democratic Sen. Barbara Favola saying, "I have to take a breath and think about this. This is moving way too quickly." GOP House Majority Leader Todd Gilbert said it would be "reckless" to comment. "There's just too much flying around," he said. The chairman of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus, Del. Lamont Bagby, said, "We've got a lot to digest." Meaning, it's different than trying to block a Supreme Court nominee than doing the same thing to end up with a Republican replacing a Democratic Governor.

You missed the memo,........... Black people can't be racist. Actually, only white people can be racist. They changed the definition of racism when we weren't looking. The definition now includes discrimination........... " from a position of power". And since everybody knows, only white people are in positions of power, therefore, only white people can be racist.

This is absolute crap - if anything, blacks are even MORE racists against others not of their own race. Also find it really telling that most black victims of crime , the crime was committed by another black.

Good for him! Not because I support him but, because I still believe the accused is innocent until proven guilty. The same goes for the Lt. Governor. Accusations should not be enough to ruin a person's career or life. Neither of these men would have received my vote during the last election had I been able to vote in that election but, they have not been charged nor proven guilty of any crimes. Hang in there gents. Rams
