And to think, for the Hon Justice Kavanaugh, there weren't even any (relevant) pictures.  Not for lack of 10,000 people looking for them.

Basically just forgive and forget. How did this not come out during his campaign is beyond me.

Hmmmm, would it matter if Trump was with him in one of those costumes?

Jess from VA

I basically agree with you guys.  This is old college humor, and it is pretty funny (to me).

But when the opposition (and THEIR media) makes a nuclear war over any misstep whatsoever for us, it's hard to give him a complete pass.

As long as the food stamps, felon votes and late term abortion is working, he's probably bulletproof.

The emperor has no clothes

It was a racist, stupid thing to do. Shame on him. I'm not sure where you figure a sense of humor figures into it though. It does say something about the culture of that medical school that it would be allowed in the yearbook.

Jess from VA

My Sr year HS yearbook had a guy on the track team with his nuts hanging out.

It's not like the editing was world class or anything.

I think missing a pic of a track member with his testicles hanging out of his shorts would be a lot easier to explain than a medical school pic of  a KKK dude with someone in black face. It tells me that maybe that kind of stuff was ok there. I can't imagine that getting by my high school yearbook, and that was almost a decade earlier. I am curious what you find humorous about the pic ?

We have no idea what the story is behind that photo. Could it be them mocking the KKK? Trying to make idiots out of the KKK in some frat prank?

Maybe there is a story behind this that they were making a statement against racism.

Or maybe they are indeed racist idiot.

We don't know do we?

So I try to reserve judgement until the whole story, or at least enough to make a informed judgement comes out.

I don't know anything other than the link Jess provided. In it the governor apologized for stupid, racist behavior. I would imagine if there was more to it than that, he would have said.

I drew a cartoon for the Clemson student newspaper way back when that mocked
people who thought polacks were stupid (polack jokes were big back then), but
some people thought I was mocking polacks...

Yet everyone is wanting to hang Trump over something he said in a locker room 20yrs ago. Double standard anyone??

From he article.
"What has been revealed is disgusting, reprehensible and offensive," the caucus said. "We feel complete betrayal. The legacy of slavery, racism and Jim Crow has been an albatross around the necks of African Americans for over 400 years. These pictures rip off the scabs of an excruciatingly painful history and are a piercing reminder of this nation's sins."

Actually, slavery, racism, Jim Crow, the KKK, the actions against Civil Rights and against Integration were all done by the Democrats, so it should be right up their alley.

Besides he's working on more important stuff now, He's jumping on the abortion until birth bandwagon.
I think we should put no limits on abortions, allow them retroactive back 60-70yrs. He needs to be retroactively aborted.

John Schmidt

Hmmm....1984.....so how many of all the naysayers both here and across the nation can honestly say that everything they did and said 34 yrs. ago was always above board. You never did anything stupid, either planned or spur of the moment? Good grief, fresh out of high school or college and you're telling me you're pure as the driven snow. Just out of HS you're a loose cannon, most fresh out of college are educated loose cannons. That picture means nothing except it shows just how foolish youngsters are at that age. If I were him, I would have suggested the same thing to all those that are busy pointing fingers.

Good thing I was never elected to a public office, someone would have surely discovered how I won a bet at 2:30am....riding naked down main street on a motorcycle. Around the square and back to the hangout spot, a total distance of about 1.5 miles, only to discover my current lip-locker and her girl friends had swiped my clothes and took off for parts unknown. A chase ensued and upon catching them, I simply parked the bike in front of the car, got off and walked up to the driver and demanded my clothes. My best bud's dad was a captain on the force and had been following the action....unbeknownst to me. He and his rider drove up and I was offered a single stocking, saying I might get a chill, then drove off. I could hear them howling with laughter for nearly a block. As for the girls and my clothes....the night was young. Imagine if I had been elected governor!  :2funny:  As for the bet, easiest $50 I ever made....well, almost.  ;)

Regardless of the picture and any explanation either way.
The "gov" is currently demonstrating that he is ethically, morally, mentally, and intelligence challenged.
I really thought better of the voters of VA. They can and should select better folks for office.

It appears that we really need to implement an intelligence test for voters and political folks.

I'm glad to see we have so many "understanding" members. I could care less about the governors future, it's all about the double standard for me. I'm very interested to see where this goes. It's also noteworthy to mention the many of the Democratic 2020 runners are asking for his resignation. Blood in the water!

I think the voters want better candidates, but those potential candidates see what the election process has become and they want no part of it.

I've always said that anybody I would want for an office (usually POTUS) is too smart to run for the job any more.

Sadly, I have to agree... and that it's been that way for some time now.

I (proudly) served in the military, where you could theoretically (for me) get shot serving your country.

Big Public office (to me) seems so much harder, nastier, distasteful, and bargaining-with-the-devil than just getting shot.  (And I do appreciate those elected officials I like and agree with all the more for putting up with the circus.)  In fact, given the choice right now, I'd probably just get shot.

But I still think that (very) local government still has a place for simple/honest men and women to serve where they might do good work with very little circus. (for real small money.... similar to military service)

I don't know what all the uproar's about, any student of history can easily discover that the KKK membership was nearly all Democrats (though there were some documented Republican members).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ku_Klux_Klan_members_in_United_States_politics

He now claims he is neither the klansman nor blackface in the photo (but it seems he's not exactly sure).

They're even talking facial recognition, which might work for the blackface, but not the klansman.

It seems unlikely it was posted in his Med School yearbook entry by accident.

Who could have foreseen a college prank coming back to bite so hard decades later?

The text in the yearbook entry supports drinking alcohol, and this very well may have played a part in this pageantry.

Lindsey Graham. Way back when, I saw him on campus at the College Republicans meeting.
I remember he said something like "if you want to be in politics you have to remember that
someone is going to remember everything you do."... And he also said "Bill Clinton couldn't
even get a glass of water in South Carolina". I ran with that one :-)

Being dumb kid with beer and blackface and a pointy hat is way different than murdering

sheepishly raises his hand. But at 25 I'm not sure one can use the excuse of just being a kid. Regardless, I knew I did so much stupid crap I would never last a day on the campaign trail. Much less get elected to dog catcher.
I think I would have a better opinion of the guy had he just owned up to it during the campaign for governor. He could have just come out and said "I did this stupid thing when I was 25, it's not who I am or how I've lived my life". And then let the voters make their decision. I am actually more concerned with the adults and the culture of that medical school that they would have let that slide, even back in '84.
