Just discovered something strange. From what I've read, standard Valkyrie GL1500 handlebar width is 33". I just picked up a clean 99 GL1500C last December and took her down the engine and frame, rebuilt, replaced, cleaned and polished everything (fork rebuild, caliper rebuild/paint/pads, flushed old coffee colored brake/clutch fluid, new petcock, serviced final drive, polished wheels, new Avons to bring her back to life.... Ok I digress...

So neighbor has a 97 GL1500C and this Sunday we swapped rides for a short distance. We both noticed a difference in handlebar width AND pullback angle. Mine were both narrower AND pull back was more inward (or tending to be more parallel with front-to-rear (if that makes sense). I noticed this when I bought her after coming off Harley's with a more natural handlebar angle, but got used to it.

ANYWAY, I measured my bars and neighbor's bars, center to center of grip end to end. Mine measure 29.5", his are what appears to be the standard 33". I realize PO might have changed bars, but wondered if any of you knew if any Valkyrie years or models had different width bars?

I plan to buy a clean used set and swap this fall/winter.

As I recall, the I/S bars are a bit wider than the other two models.

Both my 1999 and 2001 Standards have stock bars and measure
34 inches wide from the end of the grips.

Thanks klb, neighbors are 33" from center-to-center (middle) of grip end, 34" if measured from widest outside edge of each grip end. Not sure where these 29.5' (center-to-center) - 30.5"ers came from, but I'm going back stock this fall/winter.

You're Welcome. They are the most comfortable bars on any bike
I have had over the years.

Actually it's the opposite. The IS bars are narrower than tourer or standard bars to match the dimensions of the fairing

Hmm, Interesting. Any IS owners able to measure your bars from end of one grip to the other for me? Without beating a dad horse, I'm still going to swap once I get a clean set of standard bars. It's not so much that these feel too narrow, but they sweep back at an angle that just seems a little awkward compared to neighbors standard bars. Thanks all!

Bar Diameter   Height   Width   Pullback   Center   Clamp Area   Factory #
GL 1500 C   Valkyrie   1997 - 2003   1"   6"   33"   14"   9"   3" x 5"   53100-MZ0-000

I recently replaced my stock bars with a bar I used on the 06' VT1100C Spirit. This bar put my wrist at a better angle than the stock "buckhorns" on the Spirit thus they worked really well on the Valk. The stock Valk has way to much pullback thus putting my wrist in similar position like the Spirit. No fit issues but you will have a little more cable slack. The second set was changed a bit as they are dimpled at the bend and the chrome was much better quality. If you prefer stock, I have my OEM and won't never put them back on. Just don't like them.

On my I/S a 1" block riser made a HUGE difference on those long haul days!  :cooldude: I also added Kury wide non adjustable clutch and brake levers. It came to me with Kury road pegs but took awhile for me to find MY Personal sweet spot.  :coolsmiley: And I did Not measure my bars!  :-\ And My Brother Ross daprez fabbed up brackets for my road/fog lights. Most of the Fun of our Valkyries comes from personalizing them!  ;)  Well RIDING them is fun too!  :smitten: RIDE SAFE.
