Valkpilot has generously offered to host our next Wrench Party on Saturday 6 February 2010 in Corinth.  He plans to start at 8:00am, so we can show up then or anytime thereafter.  When we are all done, we'll ride to the Ponder Steakhouse for a big lunch!

If you plan to attend, please post to this thread what you want/need to do and email Valkpilot (barnettdhobvious@yahoo.com) for his address and directions.  Details of his plans for the day can be found here:  Valkpilot's Brake School

I believe there are several Valkyries out there (you owners know who you are) that would benefit from a relay between their starter buttons and headlights.  Details of what is needed and how it's done can be found here:  Chet "Rattlebars" Walters' Starter Button Maintenance / Headlight Relay Mod

It also sounds like there are several Valkyries out there due for a petcock rebuild and vacuum line replacement.  If you'd like to tap into the vast knowledge base and shortened learning curve those of us who attended the December wrench party, details of what is needed can be found here:  Details on Petcock, Air Filter, Vacuum Line rebuild/replace

I've been watching the extended forecast for several days and it continues to look good for us.  Hope to see you there!

I need to sync my carbs and clean my K&N air filter. Anyone have a carb sync tool that will be at the wrench party and know how to use it? I'll need help with that along with helping me take off my tank so that I can get to the K&N. Thanks for any help that you can provide.       :)

I've got a fair collection of tools, including an air compressor, lift, and floor jack.  I've got two Valk manuals: The Clymer and a printout (in binders) of Dag's OEM manual.  Also, a pretty well stocked electrical/electronics tool box.

DaveinFrisco, would you mind bringing your Miti-Vac?

Sixguns, if we can get Flyboy's carb sync guages, the carb sync is a piece of cake and takes less than 10 minutes.

Hopefully, we can do the brake work on mine and have it back together for me to ride to Ponder with y'all.

+1 on the less than 10 minutes.
It took me longer to remove the pods from the Interstate than it did to sinc the carbs..  :)

OMG!  I'm actually off work on a Wrench Party Saturday!!

I'll be there.. no matter where Valkpilot lives.. Okla, Ark, Nev..  Hopefully in N. Texas.

What can I bring (besides two saddle bags full of my stuff)?
 Ohm meter?  Connectors?  Advice?
Please scratch the last one 'cause I'll be there to follow directions not give directions.

:cooldude:  Congratulations, David!    :cooldude:

I'll be looking for a spot to mount/hang one of my stocking-stuffers - a Centech AP-2 auxiliary fuse panel - but won't prioritize rewiring any of the existing mods.  Although my carbs haven't been adjusted since I've owned the bike -and probably never - I would like to get them synced.

I'll also volunteer to be the official cover set diaphragm installer.  I have experience doing it both the wrong AND right ways!

VP, if it looks like we're going to need another lift/adapter, I can run mine over one evening this week.  Lemme know.

Valkpilot,

I don't think I need anything worked on, but I don't know for sure.  I mean, the bike runs fine, but that doesn't mean that there is some maintenance that I should be doing.  That is mainly why I am attending, to familiarize myself with the work that will be coming my way at some point in the future.

Jim,

No worries.  There will be plenty to see and do.  Of the wrench parties I've been to, a good number of the attendees were there to observe and socialize.  I usually fell into this category since I typically do my own maintenance, but this time I had a big project I thought the group might be interested in seeing. Plus, it'll be comforting to have an extra hand or two willing to help out.

b.a.d. got in touch with us, and we'll be at the wrenching party!  for some reason, rose thinks she left the gauges with one of you yahoos at the last party she took them to, but she is going to look in the garage and get back to me on that.

i have a pestering electrical issue that i need help with.  i can't get my wiring for the trailer lights to work the way i think it oughta, so i'll appreciate any bright individuals who can lend their expertise to that project.

That makes a Baker's Dozen including me, at least 10 of which want to do work on their rides.  I've updated the attendee list in a post above.

With the two garage bays and driveway, we can probably work on six to eight bikes at a time, if correctly organized.  Maybe Godfire will volunteer to be logistics officer.

Don't know if Joe can make the party Saturday. If not I'll be on his bike.  Need to replace the petcock (I have one) and the vacuum lines.  Does anybody know if those line are specifically molded for the valk or can I get hose at an auto parts house?  If so, what size and how much do I need?  If he comes with me on his bike, I would like to replace the vacuum nipples on the intakes on my bike.  Had a vaccum leak in one.  Can those be purchased at an auto parts house?  I was told that they could be.  Sounds like a big day.  C you guys then. Doc,

Do you have the screen set to go with your new petcock?  If not, get one.  Some have gotten away without replacing these.  However, if we pull remove your petcock, find that you need one and don't have one, we're fubared.

If you look at the online parts fiche, the Petcock rebuild (Cover Set) and Screen Set details are on the Fuel Tank fiche
Reference #4, Screen Set, Part Number 16952-MZ0-003 -

Re Vacuum Lines, Ghillie found a VW line that worked well for him.  I don't know the size.  If someone can provide specs, sourcing it locally is an option.  However, in the interest of time, I recommend you contact Red Eye Technical Services and order what you need from Rich.

To feed the google beast, go to Red Eye Technical Services at http://sites.google.com/site/valkparts/ and order one (1) Vacuum Cap Kit, one (1) Valkyrie Pair Valve Vacuum Line, and one (1) Valkyrie OEM Petcock Vacuum Line.

To feed the ebay beast, find Red Eye there and order one (1) Vacuum Cap Kit, one (1) Valkyrie Pair Valve Vacuum Line, and one (1) Valkyrie OEM Petcock Vacuum Line.

Either way, do it now, and tell him you need it by Friday.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I have checked the petcock I'll be putting on.  If you are talking about the screen at the end of the tube that I'm guessing goes in the tank, it is intact.  Got one with the petcock.  The guys on the tech forum say I can do the vacuum lines with 5/32 tubing from an auto parts store.  So I'm gonna get some of that.  Yep, I found the way to get directions.  Let me work on a human body anytime over this mechanical stuff. I'm totally incompetent when it comes to that stuff.

Not....but was a pretty neat project since they were off anyway....=They are really rough castings like it says in shop talk..plus and you can see the glass packs I did again!! If I can get over Ill bring a bag of the flappers.Paul Haslet TX.

 OK, after doing some calculations for what time I could get to the WP I decided I was not going to be able to make it in time to do any work.  Since the weather is bad for the next couple of days I went ahead and started my project.  After battlin' the dragon for a few hours I have a few questions for the experts;

1. Is it humanly possibly for a man with normal size hands to change the front left vacuum cap on an Interstate?  Is an extra long set of 45° hemostats a necessity?

2. Can the pair valve hoses be changed without pulling the air box?

3. What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

BTW -- The two vacuum caps I have changed so far were in horrid condition and in dire need of being changed.
