DFW September Wrench Party(ies) SEP 11 and/or 12

Hey, how late do these things usually go?  I'm definately planning on coming Sunday to do the work on my bike, but I may swing by Saturday afternoon around 4:00 or so if you guys are still hanging around.  I'd like to meet some of the folks who wont be coming back Sunday.

They kinda go until they stop.  Sometimes the cold, sometimes the hot, sometimes tummy alarms bring them to a halt.  There's some pretty ambitious stuff planned for Saturday, so swing by.  If nothing else, it's an excuse to ride.

Short answer is yes.  We can probably get at least 3 bikes in the garage at a time.

I couldn't get my pictures to upload but I wanted to say this: A BIG THANK-YOU goes out Valkpilot for hosting the wrench party and helping me by donating some shock bushings and and taking me to Discount tire so that I could go Darkside and taking me to the Honda Shop to have the tire/wheel balanced. Valkpilot and Disco Dave even went to the autoparts house to get more fuel hose to replace my old hose when we found out that my oringinal fuel hose would not reach the pingle fuel valve that was installed. It was a hot and humid day and I want to thank everyone that helped me with my Project Interstate. I want to thank, Dave, Dave, TJ, Tom, and the Valk rider with the beautiful Blue/Silver Interstate (Sorry I forgot your name).  Thanks again....

Made it back at about 10:30 last night , after we wrenched till 8:00 pm. Had a great time.  ;DThanks VP for putting up with us . I think it was a very succesfull day, we made mayor strides in extending the life of a beautifull black dragon. Anyone ever seen a rear axle installed backwards with the nut on the RH side with both ends beat up with a sledge hammer?

We had a pretty good Wrench-A-Thon.

Saturday crew: BnB, SixGuns, 5-19, Hoghead (Matt) Disco, VP.

5-19 brought Dublin Dr. Pepper, bless his really-really-tall-guy heart.

We went through SixGuns'  bike virtually stem to stern.  Rear drive maintenance from the engine output shaft back, replacing the u-joint (precautionary), drive shaft and pinion cup (necessary), and properly lubing and re-assembling it all.  Converted his rear wheel to darkside.  Replaced brake and clutch fluid. Replaced his air filter.  Installed a Pingel petcock and then replaced his fuel line because someone in the past hacked it in two and it wouldn't reach the Pingel.  Installed a missing tank vent line. Plugged #6 vacuum port.  

He should ride this bike like he stole it, because he pretty much did.


Sunday crew: HossAggie (Josh), Timbo (Tim), Disco, VP.

Both HossAggie and Timbo were riding new-to-them bikes, both with blue/white rally stripe paint.  We pulled Josh's rear drive line.  It was in good shape, so we re-lubed everything an threw it back together.  Pulled his tank, checked his petcock, and serviced the K&N air filter.  We also were able to pull most of some shallow dents from Josh's tank with the BIlly Mays Ding King kit I rarely admit I own.

On Tim's bike we pulled the tank, checked the petcock, and serviced the K&N filter (Somebody must be trying to make blue bikes faster with the K&Ns.)  Tim's bike was also having a problem with the throttle sticking open.  We spent a couple of hours pulling open the throttle housing, checking and lubing the cables.  We pulled the tank again to check the mechanism at the carbs.  Everything looked good, but the throttle just wouldn't move easily and wouldn't return closed at all.  We suspect a bad install of the Kury grips by the PO, but had to wave the white flag and send Tim off to the dealer.  
We just couldn't risk tearing up a cable or the throttle sleeve and stranding his bike.


All in all, two pretty full days turning nuts and bolts.



Oh yeah, I forgot...my new air impact wrench is AWESOME.

I also had a great time and learned a lot.  Thanks to VP and Disco for d teaching a new guy some of the ropes and some of the finer lessons in the Valk.  Also, thanks to VP for hosting.....I look forward to many more wrench parties and to meeting other members of the club.

I too learned more about Valks.

Sat. was the first time I'd seen the drive shaft and U-joints out of a bike.  Like Daniel has always said when it comes to the mystery of a Valk's internals " . . just go ahead and take it apart.  I doesn't bite" (or something similar to that).  In other words, take it down, examine, repair/replace as necessary and REMEMBER HOW IT GOES BACK TOGETHER!

That last part is why I wanted to be around to actually SEE it happen.  It's always nice to have help when working on the Valk but sometimes there's nobody around so you need to know as much about her as possible.

I'm still learning.

Thanks VP for providing the space AND time for everybody.  You went WAY above and beyond.
