And what happens when someone goes and shoots people in a public pool....arm the lifeguards

If you don't think so....take a trip to Cuba....oh ya you are not allowed.

Again the uninfomed makes a sweeping statement. The following is from the New York Times (a politically left leaning newspaper) in June of 2011. The internet is such a great tool for information.

But the new people-to-people measures make it easier for United States citizens who do not have special status as working journalists or scholars to visit Cuba legally, so long as they go with a licensed operator.

"All a U.S. citizen has to do is sign up for an authorized program and they can go to Cuba. It's as simple as that," said Tom Popper, director of Insight Cuba, a travel company that took more than 3,000 Americans to Cuba between 1999 and 2003, and was among the tour operators to apply for a license under the new rules earlier this year. It received its license at the end of June, and has planned 135 trips of three, seven or eight nights over the next year.

While all the banter goes back and forth I was looking for the reason the push is so hard and Fienstien admitted that she has been working on the proposal for over a year and the biased news coverage now is in full swing. I have found that our news is not unbiased and may even be serving a greater agenda. But that aside I found that Mexico has enacted gun laws that are very strict. The UN is leading the push to disarm the US and any other country that has guns. O and is right in line with these proposals also. We will march to the UN's mandates with a corrupt biased news service leading the way as a propaganda front for some questionable motives and agendas.

I really feel sad for all you.  You would turn a great country into an internment camp.  When all your institutions are fenced 10' high with armed guards in towers and armed patrols stopping everyone for their papers....how free will you be.....comrad.   :uglystupid2:

You see, us Canadians, Aussies and Brits have seen that we don't need guns to feel safe.  You guys just have not evolved enough to see this.

You guys need to get with it.

Gun free zones = high casualty zones. It's all so simple. The criminals go where they have the least chance of encountering an armed citizen. Any citizen mandated to be un-armed is really a subject. They are no longer a free citizen.

I am really surprised that an informed person would make that statement. Reading the news and reaction to politicians push to control guns is not the reality of what happens in life and everyday living. I agree live in the US then make comments. Also US history from the making of this country to the wild west it has always been the same. We have a history that is intertwined with guns and I dont see any reason to change that.

Kinda funny, but that statement works both ways. YOU explain to ME how I'm supposed
to be safer if the govt takes my guns or makes it so expensive that I can't afford to keep
them or buy ammo. Are you stupid enough to believe that guns will go away if they're
made illegal? Or do you really think criminals care at all if it's illegal to carry a gun in a
gun free zone?

People in GB, Canada, and Aussie seem to forget that the good ole USA CITIZENS gave the people of England all kinds of high powered rifles to defend themselves against the possible invasion by the Germans in the early forties.

Those rifles were not returned after the War and are probably long gone now melted down  by a more 'civilized' English nation.

As mentioned here before,  don't tell us how to live our lives and we won't tell you how to live yours, Bs.

I am the wife of "Big Dog" and I am an elementary school principal.  My school is very similar to Sandy Hook Elementary.  We are a primary school with grades k-3--all babies under the age of 9.  (And by the way, there are 750 of those babies.)  My heart is broken for all of those who lost their lives in this horrible tragedy.  Our school has always been very proactive in the safety and care of our students.  Immediately following the shooting we had all local police chiefs as well as fire chiefs convene at our school for a safety meeting.  We all believe that an armed safety officer in all schools is the best way to go.  However, our government, both at the state and federal level, continue to reduce funding in our schools while increasing unfunded mandates.  All monies for school safety has been eliminated.  So to think out of the box, our police chiefs have offered a solution.  All we have to provide our local police is a desk space in our schools.  While on duty, our police officers will have a space within our school to file paperwork and do their regular work while still being a visible, armed presence in our school.  This will cost our schools nothing but could save many lives.  We must all work together to ensure the safety of our precious babies.
This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember it or overthrow it." -- Abraham Lincoln, 4 April 1861

Guys, it will never end.  Soon everyone is so scared to go outside that society breaks down.  You are so scared that a tourist comes to ask you a question and you want to shoot them because you felt threatened, like that idiot cop from Michigan when he was in Calgary for the Stampede.  More guns are not the answer.  There is no quick fix.  This is a really complex problem and a growing problem.  I am not trying to put down anyone.  Just trying to open your eyes.  They took away our assault rifles many years ago and we are still here.  Canada has become more free than the US and we did it without guns.

If you don't think so....take a trip to Cuba....oh ya you are not allowed.

I would expect such a statement from you, your countrymen, and Aussies too.  And Brits.  I'm glad you have no say (vote) on this issue.  Feel free to stay on your side of the border if you don't like armed patriots.  Love your motto - You "stand on guard for thee".  With what?  A baseball bat?  No, not if it's used as a weapon.  No guns, no knives, no Tasers, no Mace for you.  But the criminals have any weapons they want.

In case you don't know we Canadians have guns and plenty of them,  just not assult rifles and the ones we do have are locked up so whackos can't get ahold of them easily.

Americans need guns to protect against such things as the local crack head punk that needs his next fix and how is he going to get it .................well, he simply has to go to his fathers night stand and grab his Glock or break into any home and takes theirs, that ironically is supposed to be for their families protection.  Then he goes next door to your place and either takes you out or gets into a gunfight. Oh and the crims aren't the ones shooting up the schools, it's the nut bars that have free accesss to assault weapons.  Just as in Canada, the crims are way too busy whacking each other to be bothered taking out unarmed school children for no gain.

Do you folks not see the irony in this madness you are defending for the most part against your selves, not just the crims  ???  :uglystupid2:

I think you miss the point most here are trying to make.  Laws do not have any impact unless you break them AND are caught breaking them.  The gun restrictions do not affect the actions of criminals, they only restrict and add cost to the law abiding citizen that is trying to exercise his rights and protect his family and property.

To me a CCW permit is just a tax applied to people that want to exercise a right.  No ther right, freedom of speech, press, religion, from illegal search and seizure, etc. is TAXED in this manner.  $125/5yrs and the cost $100 - $200 of "Training".

If CCW's are required, those that are convicted of gun crimes should foot the bill thru fines to pay the cost of a CCW for law abiding citizens.  MHO and it'll never happen.

Understood........... I don't advocate taking guns away from law abiding citizens, what I'm trying to say is that the guns they do have should be locked up and secured, so that the non law abiding and or mentally ill folks cannot easily get a hold of them.  I would not so much be afraid of organised criminal gangs as I would be afraid of the deranged neighbor down the street with free access to guns.  As was the case in the school shooting.

I think you all are over reacting, I don't recall ever hearing Obama say he that he is going to take all guns away, that would be an impossibility, I know the American people would not stand for it.  Good for you.

The NRA needs to come up with a solution that does not involve arming teachers, they should not need to be armed (remember it is not the crims doing these shootings) You should not need to pack a gun to protect your child.  I'll say it again it is the mentally incompetent who are allowed free access to guns who are committing these atrocities.  Stop them in their tracks and the anti gun establishment will likely leave you all alone.   :cooldude:

Bigdogs wife is lucky to live in a community that has come up with an excellent solution!
Unfortunately that does not fall into the agenda that the government has.

While spending billions policing the rest of the world the, US government claims there isn't enough money to protect their own citizens. Combine that with the ineffectiveness of the "war on drugs" and not enforcing the immigration laws, bailing out the criminals that destroyed our economy instead of jailing them. Something sure seems to indicate a different agenda.
By keeping a large number of active duty soldiers the government has it's protection from the  people who they want to disarm.  (insurgents and rebels).
It's scary to think what could happen.  As our rights disappear are we also seeing the death of democracy?

We wouldn't even be having this discussion if 27 robbers and or rapists were shot, I'd be celebrating right along with ya but that is not the case here, the point is innocents were shot for no reason, not a robbery, not a rape  The real question is ............. protect your children from who ???  It is not the Crims that are doing the shooting here !!! The whole point of keeping your guns secure is to keep the guns out of reach of the people who would do such a thing and you won't need to arm the teachers. Back ground checks of potential gun owners is not enough, you may well be perfectly sane and an upstanding citizen but, can you say the same of all the people that may have free access to your guns.

QuoteThe real question is ............. protect your children from who   It is not the Crims that are doing the shooting here !!!

The vast majority of gun crimes are committed by criminals. Those like Columbine,
Aurora, and Newton just grab all the headlines. It doesn't matter if a child is
one of 20 victims or a single victim, it's bad. Thousands of people die in auto
crashes every year, but a bus/plane/train wreck makes national news.

:cooldude:

That sounds great, I'm waiting to hear ideas on how you implement your suggestions.  Fienstien's solution is to restrict/limit guns/magazines.  This was the first solution that was reported.  Now the deranged person will only be able to kill a maximum of 10 children with out reloading.

Of couse people need to secure their guns, but some won't.  So should the people who DO secure their weapons right to defend their famalies rights be restricted  because of that.  There are stupid, irresponsible people everywhere, most of them are liberals.

Children in schools shouldn't have to be protected, but they shouldn't be shot either,  they were.  I think they should be protected.  What I don't understand is why it is the NRA's resposibility to come up with how to do it.  You should not need to pack a gun to protect your child, but when your child is threatened by the lunitic down the street that IS packing a gun, what would you like to protect them with?

I am seriously interested in your thoughts, not making fun.

Then who do we depend on to protect our children/family? Cops? They have no duty to protect us, per the Supreme Court. We have been protecting our families since the 1400's.

What do you do if your family is being robbed or raped? Not being smart, I just want to know.

By criminal, we mean anyone who is breaking the law.  This dude was a criminal because he 1) killed his mother - AGAINST THE LAW,
2) took her guns  - AGAINST THE LAW, 3) transported them to a gun free zone  - AGAINST THE LAW, 4) killed 26 humans  - AGAINST THE LAW.

He may have been found not responsible for his crimes due to insanity, but he broke several laws.

Agreed, the vast majority of gun crimes are committed by criminals or become criminals by the mere act of using a gun to commit a crime ......... and 27 Criminals being shot would likely make the headlines as well, but that just don't happen, does it, except perhaps in all of our dreams.

You all are willing to write off 27 innocent people for your right to own large mag, assault rifles and semi auto pistols without the need to secure them.................Sorry, that is just not right thinking in my mind.

Top dogs at the NRA announced new program to provide armed security at schools, funded by the NRA.  They were interrupted twice by banner-waving anti-gunners.  Expect the interruptions to be the focus of the lamestream media. LaPierre introduced a respected, I think he was, an ex-congressman to head up the program. They made sense, and good rational arguments for the program. However I predict Obummer will ignore the offer.  After all, that would be joining the devil when their agenda is grab the guns.  You can find more from the horse's mouth at NRA.org.  I expect it will be reported by some accurately - like Fox - and distorted by the rest all day long.

Here's the transcript of LaPierre's speech: http://home.nra.org/pdf/Transcript_PDF.pdf

Support the NRA and join them. They are the main bulwark against the loss of our rights.

So are you going to protect all the soft targets....nursery schools, malls, churches, busses? You cant protect them all. These killers know the easy targets. They will find them. The Columbine killers were students. They walked right in. What about the theater in Colorado? Gonna protect every theater in the counrty with ex military guards?
Cant rid the country of 300,000,000 guns either.
Its a very difficult problem. There is no good solution. Everyone thinks they have a solution. They dont.

And what happens when someone goes and shoots people in a public pool....arm the lifeguards
And what happens when someone goes and shoots people in a library...arm librarians
And what happens when someone goes and shoots people in a bus...arm the bus driver

Also last I checked, drugs are illegal/banned and we all know how well that is going.

Understood........... I don't really care about mag size, but such weapons should be secured so that they do not fall into the wrong hands, "like the lunatic down the street"  When I say secured, I mean when your are not at home.  Had this teacher done so, this needless shooting probably would not have happened at all and you wouldn't be fighting for your rights at his point.

I think the NRA has a responsibility to come up with a reasonable solution to further protect your right to possess such weapons or the very Government you fear will do so and you very likely will not like what they come up with.  You should all be working towards a solution to keep the guns out of the hands of incompetents, instead of just adding more guns into the mix, I don't think it is the answer, next thing you know the security guard has a bad day and cuts loose on an entire school. Just sayin' it could happen !!!

True. From what I gather the mom and son go out shooting together. If they are locked up, I'm betting he knew where the keys are. Most folks that are like that. I knew where the keys were when I was 8 yrs old. Dad lives down the road and has a huge gun safe. He told me the combo to it so if something happened.

You make it sound like we are a bunch of heartless bastards that are not upset that 20 young lives were snuffed out by this maniac. You sir are wrong. I am very saddened by last week events. BUT blaming guns for this and any other crime like it is stupid. Do you blame alcohol for drunk driving deaths or the cars that they killed with. NO you don't,than why blame a gun for these deaths. The gun didn't kill those children. A 20 year old piece of chit did.  Who do I hold responsible for this. The kid and his mother. She failed to secure her guns in a safe place.

Now with that said. My father (Solo1) and I are both NRA Home Firearm Responsibility instructors and teach home firearm safety classes. Basically the classes teach the proper way to store a firearm. In fact we have two classes coming up next month and in Feb. Sometimes it is hard to get people to take the classes I think because some think they know all they need to get by. I have heard the attitude that " I know everything about guns" I don't need these classes. NO one knows everything about guns. We learn something new every time we teach a class.  So when I read about guns accidents in the home because the gun was not secured if makes me mad. It is so easy to do.

My guns are locked in a gun safe. The only one that is not is my Glock 36. Its in a lock box next to me bed. I am the only one that knows the combinations.....

I am going to say this ONE more time. Assault Rifles are FULLY AUTOMATIC and strictly regulated. A AR15 is a so called "assault weapon". I just call it a semi auto rifle but I'm silly that way. Get you facts straight please.......

Lanza was sick and should not have had access to his mother's guns.  She was negligent in her storage of them, IMO.  Most of my guns are locked in a safe, except a couple I keep hidden on hand for security, and to be placed on my person for CCW when I leave.  They are not visible and are not accessible when I'm not here.  There are no children in this house, and no child visitors except very occasionally, and when they are here all guns have first gone into the safe.

Naive statement there.  First of all, Obama holds the WORST record for gun control voting of anyone on the hill - historically.  This is a matter of record, easily researched.  Secondly, if you think he's announcing his plans, you're not paying attention.  The liberal's methods are basically, claim you don't want to do what you've planned privately.  You just want to do this ONE "common sense" thing that everyone who loves kids should want.  Note the implication of their opposition's evil motive.  Get this little law passed, let it sit in place for a little while, then move onto the next little step after the public and the opposition have come to accept it.  It's called the "slippery slope" method, aka the "boiling frog" method. We KNOW their methods, and is why we who are standing our ground on this and other important issues - don't allow even a small step in that direction.

WOW.  Are you NAIVE. Well, maybe it's just you're ignorent about the reality of the gun issues in the U.S.  Maybe why you should just tend to Canadian issues and BUTT OUT on our business.

The NRA is offering a solution up to show they are reasonable people, not hard cases on their issues.  If they don't show the beginning of a dialog on this most important issue as spawned by the latest tragedy, they will lose credibility with the public and it will be easier for the libs and the lamestream lefty media to discredit them. They of course are attempting to do that anyway.  However the NRA has a very good argument - if armed guards are necessary to protect the president and other capital hill politicos, ditto for the police (they aren't carrying guns to protect US, it's to protect THEM), then why isn't that also a valid protection plan for the most vulnerable among us, our children?  There needs to be a stop-gap (at least) RIGHT NOW to protect the children IMMEDIATELY, before the next crazy does a copycat massacre. To protect the children, there needs to be trusted, trained, and armed adult(s) on location to PREEMPT a crazy shooter - not police to show up after the mayhem to put up crime tape and make reports on the dead.  The cost argument is pure BS.  It's a tiny fraction of other budgets - to provide an armed guard at every school in the nation is less than ONE B1 bomber.  And lots of other examples.  And it needn't cost much at all - there are plenty of qualified trained adults who would do it for free - including me, after retirement.  (Unfortunately I still need to make a living right now.)  Just some money to set up security to support access control at the schools - like barred first floor windows, metal doors, a metal detector, CS video system and an office area for the guard. $5-$10k or so per school - less than they spend now on gym equipment.  The school principal who posted above, went into the practicality of it - and I say good for her, and I hope others are similarly rational about it.

It doesn't really matter what the NRA comes up with, as far as whether BO will avail himself of it.  He would no sooner use the NRA's ideas than those of his worst political foe.  He is a mortal enemy of the NRA and everything they stand for.  In fact he is most likely to do whatever is 180°  opposite to Wayne LaPierre's suggestions, if that aligns with his platform.

The bit you say about preventing the sick from having access to guns, is an obvious need and I agree with that.  And likely just about everybody else too.  Though maybe not those who want to deny that Asperger's which Lanza was diagnosed with, might be among those dangerous sicknesses due to having a relative with it.
