Has anyone come across a better oil to use than the recommended synthetic oil, I am getting ready to service the trike ready for use this year, and before I go to my local honda dealer to buy the oil and filter, I thought I would ask first if there was a better oil to run the valk on.
Many thanks, Georgie-boy

What do you run in your car?

I use Mobil 1 and have run it like 238,000.

When I drained out the breakin oil, (oil that came in it), Mobil 1 went back in and has been there ever since.

Don't think you can go wrong or tell the difference between Rotella, Amsoil, or Mobil 1.  I personally use Amsoil, think it's the best ! All are synthetic. I pour some on my pancakes in the mourning.

Mobil 1 syn. I fries my eggs in it.  :cooldude: RIDE SAFE.

Oh boy, you just opened a can of worms.  I've used Mobile 1 and Rotella T6.  I find the Rotella seems (?) to quiet the gear noise a little.

And I'm not going to argue that............  8)

When the boys were just hatched, we used Mobil 1 baby oil and they both turned out fine.

I recently went to Mobil Delvac and am really impressed with the transmission shifting. Immediate difference. I never felt this kind of difference with Rotella T or any other oil.

I've used Rotella T in both my Valks. Got two more
jugs just waitin' to be used! (If I ever get to RIDE!!)

+1 Mobil1 15w50 synthetic has an edge on Rotella T6 for reducing tranny noise in my opinion. You know oil threads go on and on and on.......... ;D

BonS,

Is that Mobil Delvac  a synthetic oil and what weight are you using?

BonS

I grabbed the dino version "Mobil Super Delvac 1300 15W-40".  There is also a synthetic blend "Mobil Delvacâ„¢ Elite 15W-40" but I haven't tried it - or found it in a store yet. They have a pure synthetic "Mobil Delvac 1â„¢ ESP 5W-40" but you'll notice that it's a 5W40 weight. I paid right at $20 for the gallon jug.

Ran Mobile 1 for 30 years , then ran it in the Valk for first year , had a funny noise and switched to Rotella Syn 5W40 years ago and i like the way it sounds and runs , that was in 120 degree weather now i'm in ND , still sounds good!
Not saying it's a better oil but it woeks the best in my bike , with a 6 degree trigger, dyno jet kit and K&N Filter and straight pipes with just the collector in them!

Sparky51

I am happy with 20w 50 Mobil 1 v twin oil.  Not cheap but I run 5 k between changes.

Oklahoma_Valk

I actually switched to pure Canola 10w-40. I now get 43mpg and gained at least 12 HP.

But....oils are like assholes I guess...

What?  You run into one everyday or everybody has one?

Many thanks for the imput guys, I have checked as to what is available to buy here in the UK, and it seems the only oil I can get hold of out of what has been suggested, is Mobil1.
It may be that the same oils are branded under a different name, but I feel I should go with something that is known and has been tried.
For a change, there is no rain, sleet or snow today, and although it is cold, the sky is blue and the sun is out so I'm going out for a couple of hours on my trike.
Again thanks guys, George

A lot of the local stores don't carry it any longer.  You can go to their site and see what stores near you might have it in stock.  If your local store doesn't have it, you can order it online and they'll ship it for free to your store for you to pick up.  But that takes longer then UPS, because they ship using their own facilities.  If you're not desperate to change your oil that day, it 's a good option.

owners manual does not recomend syn oil.
any 15w40 oil would be the best to use for a non-syn oil.

see bobistheoilguy.com used oil analysis section for m/c. see esp the reports for an ST1100.
