Meet, Greet and Eat in Kentucky

Wanted to invite all interested Valkyrie Riders to the Meet, Greet and Eat I'm hosting in Frankfort, Kentucky.   I've met quite a few of the Valkyrie Riders in this and the surrounding area but, we don't get together often so, I (in conjunction with a couple of others) decided to host a gathering of Dragons and their riders here in Frankfort.  I am still firming up some details but those will be ironed out as soon as I have a headcount on who or how many are attending.   I know this is short notice for some folks and I know money is tight also.  That's one of the reasons it's only a one night and one day event.   I can't afford to go far either.

The dates are August 9th and 10th.   Location is Frankfort, Kentucky.   The agenda is for any interested to meet at the host hotel on the evening of the 9th of August and will go for a short ride (approximate 6:15 PM EST departure), eat and then head back to the hotel/pool for a little socializing or if there is an interest, we can do a little riding on some really fun roads in the proximity of Frankfort.

Morning of the 10th, we'll again meet at the host hotel, depart at 8:30 AM EST for a short  hour plus ride to a breakfast I have set up at a local place, called Stinks on the Creek General Butler State Park Resaurant.  Great parking area, excellent spot for group photos nearby, food is very good, prices are reasonable and they have a side room they will dedicate to us.   That breakfast will be followed (departure to be determined by when we're through eating breakfast and BSing  ;) ) by an hour plus ride ending back in Frankfort.   Upon our return to Frankfort, we'll be stopping by the Kentucky Goldwing Association Annual Event just to see what those second cousins are up to and then back to the hotel for more socializing and or departures.   The host hotel is:

Best Western Hotel
80 Chenault Drive
Frankfort, KY 40601
Phone: 502-695-6111

Advise the person taking your reservation that you're with the Valkyrie Rider's Group.

Group Rate of $76.49 plus tax.

Each room has two extended double beds.  Indoor and outdoor pool, complimentary breakfast, free wireless internet, ect......  Each room has an outside entrance so you can park your Valkyrie right outside your room.  I've worked out a special arrangement with the hotel.   Because we are a motorcycle group.    Should we have a weather situation and someone is unable to make it after making a reservation, you will have until 6:00 PM EST on the 9th of August to cancel that room and not be charged.

I took a wild guess as to how many folks might be attending and staying at the Best Western, I hope I'm right.  Actually, I hope my estimate is way under what I told them.  :)

This is more about meeting each other and getting to know our fellow Valkyrie Brothers and Sisters than anything else.   Most of us don't know each other and I think that's just terrible.   Life gets in the way of enjoying our Valkyries.   The hotel has agreed to allow the entire group (whether you're staying there or not) to enjoy the pool area with our friends who stay there.

I would also invite those of you that have an interest in Kentucky Bourbon to tour the Buffalo Trace Distillery here in Frankfort.   It's a very good experience and they do let you try their product (if one is so inclined to do so).   I do recommend this.

Check it out here: http://buffalotracedistillery.com/visit-us/our-tours?page=guide_tourtimes

With that, I am inviting all interested parties to come join us in the Bluegrass and share the wind on some pretty good Kentucky roads in this area.   I sincerely hope you can make it.   As always, ride safe but RIDE.

Edited:  OBTW, there aren't any Tee Shirts for this event.

Edited II:  Reservations must be made by Mid-Night July 31st to get the discounted rate.  Sorry about not posting that.

Edit III:   While not a significant change that should affect anyone's plans, we will not be having breakfast/brunch at Stinks on the Creek, logistics and other issues have resulted in our visit to Stinks to be changed to the evening meal on the 9th of August.    Any other changes (if there are any) will be discussed at the host hotel prior to departing it on Friday evening.   Since Friday is steak night at Stinks on the Creek, please be ready to roll at 6:00 PM.

I am going to try and make that one!!!!

Thinking that I might just ride down the night before and spend the day doing some genealogy research at the state archives..... Might be JUST the excuse that I have been needing to get down there....

Life is not a journey to the grave with the expectation of arriving in one pretty, well preserved piece but, to be skidded into broadside at full speed, battered, bruised, and thoroughly used up, having poked the grim reaper in the eye shouting "GERONIMO"

Well, I don't mind being used as an excuse, especially a good excuse.   The wife's is always say'n something about being a poor excuse of something (then her voice gets very quiet).   ;)

Tell the hotel you're there for the Valkyrie Riders Group, I'll bet they extend that group rate for an extra night.   :cooldude:

Would love to have you come, will check on that camping option.   I know there's a RV campground on the Elkhorn Creek but not sure about camping versus RVs.   But, I'll find out and let you know.   I'll also look for other options.

Mike,
It was good talking to you last night, looking forward to meeting you and the boss.  ;)   Don't believe any of those stories about initiation or hazing of Spousal Units.   Those stories are greatly exaggerated.   Really they are.  ;)  Just kidding, I think.  :D

Gavin, glad to hear you're planning on it.   Need'n a battery huh?  Hmmm   Think that Valkyrie could make it this far with the one it has.   My employer sells them and I get a discount.   I could have it setting here ready to go.   As far as that goes, I'd offer my discount to anyone needing anything automotive that we sell.   We don't sell too many motorcycle parts but, batteries, oil and filters and a few other things.   But, I caution anyone that wants something, if you want a particular part, make sure I know in advance or, it might not be there.

I would take you up on that ron if the ride was a little sooner. Got a bad cell in the battery and wont keep a charge. I have rode it a couple times since I figured out why my battery keeps going dead, but wont hold a charge over night.

Sounds fun. I'll come down Friday night the 9th. I'll need to head home by 3-4 pm Saturday though.
See ya there, Ron
I sold my beloved Honda VTX so I could get a TOURING bike to allow my wife to be more comfortable on long trips. Can't afford; nor do I subscribe to the Harley "hype". Wanted to stay with Honda quality. And as I'm still young enough to want a "COOL" looking tourer; the Valk Interstate is for me.

Blue Moon

My wife and I are IN!

We will be down in Frankfort at or before 7:00pm on Friday night and stay for the duration.

Looking forward to a meeting of the KY Valks.  Long time coming with thanks going to Blackrams for driving it forward.

Glad to see Foozle will be there -- I owe him a dinner.

:)

Me and Foozle at Foozle's place a few years ago helping take the mugs to InZane that year. Valhalla Voyage.

I just notice that your evening ride on the 9th starts at 6:15pm  We will try like hell to be there before that time.

Brad,
Don't try, do.   Paducah is just a hop, skip and a jump or in Valkyrie Speak, about a tank and a half at full throttle.    Looking forward to meeting you.   Be sure to grab hold of me and introduce yourself,  I'm easily identified, I'll be the guy riding a Beautiful Black Valkyrie.  ;)

A little test run on the Valkyrie tonight, She's ready to go! Best little cruise I've had in a long while and the bike was just singing going down the road. Tightened up the exhaust studs, no more ticking, Adjusted the tire pressures, a quick wash and it was 1999 again.

Rams

1999?   Hmmm, I Remember Those Days.   Well, Kind Of Hazy But I Reember.   ;)

Just a bump to get back on page 1.

I really do encourage those who can visit the Buffalo Trace Distillery take advantage of this opportunity.   My somewhat elderly (Tea drinker) mom who is visiting this week went on their tour and came back with a big smile on her face.   She loved the Bourbon Balls and said she almost got drunk just from the air in the ware house.   ;D
She swears she didn't try any of the three shots she was offered.   I'm somewhat skeptical though.  ;)

The Whiskey Run was a good ride, I came to part of it.   A very well planned and executed ride.   I am planning on staying at the host hotel.   Why?   Do you need a room mate?

BTW, wanted to mention this one more time.   I work at Advance Auto.   I've arranged for anyone in the group to get the same discount that employee's get.   So, if you need anything, let me know so that I can ensure it's on hand.   That includes motorcycle batteries and filters.  I do have to caveat oil from that though, we don't get a discount on oil.   We do sell a few motorcycle items though.   Just pass'n it on to those with an interest.
