Never been a coffee drinker but I've been reading that drinking 4 to 6 cups a day can help alleive gout.

So what's a good decaff without the nasty burnt smell and taste that I get from coffee normally?

BF

Could be wrong, but I don't think that you'll want decaf for the benefits that you're seeking.

btw....Did you know that they use methylene chloride to separate the caffine from the beans to make decaf?

https://www.greenmountaincoffee.com/decaffeination-process.aspx

It's also known as refrigerant R30.

https://www.phenomenex.com/Compound?id=R30+(Refrigerant)

I drink 2 to 4 cups a day on average....straight up black, hi test.   ;)
I can't help about the shape I'm in
I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to

Some recent research has shown decaff is as good as high test. So I'm going to try it. Regular coffee makes me as jittery as a cat in a small room full of rocking chairs.

It does seem to have that effect on some folks.  But for me, coffee is life blood....and starter fluid.   ;D

However, we have several hundred thousand gallons of R30 on hand at work.  I know what it can do.  We use it as a refrigerant.  No way am I drinking decaf.

btw....It's also used a paint stripper.

A good tasting cup of decaff is an oxymoron. The beans are really brutalized to extract the caffeine and the beans look awful before they are roasted. That said, the absolute best way to get the best possible decaf flavor and not just taste burnt beans it to roast them yourself. You can buy green beans, including decaf, from sources such as SweetMarias.com and Roastmasters.com.

The roasting of the beans is under your control. You can spend around $20 for a hot air popcorn popper that will roast your beans out on the your porch. Sure you can spend more but I have a good friend that has been using his hot-air popper for a year+ and swears by it. I have a $300 Behmor roaster that I use indoors.

To make it even better the green beans are about 1/2 price when compared to roasted beans. You'll quickly learn that roasted coffee is a lot like bakery products in the sense that they're best consumed in a week to ten days for the best flavor.

Most all roasted coffee that you find in the supermarket and even at Starbucks has been roasted to death so that you can't taste the quality or origin of the bean. Folks expect a brand of coffee to taste the same all them time and the only way it can be done is practically burn the bean. Because of that the dominant coffee flavor is ash.

If you don't like coffee, try tart cherry juice. I guess cherry juice stops or gets ride of protein call purine that makes uric acid that crystalizes in the joint. I have gout and if I feel it coming on I do a measuring cup of cherry juice in the morning and one at night. If I need a pain killer I take a 1/8 or 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric spice with the cherry juice rather than a Tylenol or motrin. You might consider detox you liver a little, take a real lemon, cut and squeeze half and add 3 or 4 drops of hot sauce of your choice and drink.

Knudsens cherry juice lives in my fridge. Along with a concentrated cherry juice that I drink undiluted.

I use tumeric in much of my cooking.

Britman,

I have had gout going on 12 years. This is what keeps my gout at bay. Allopurinol 300MG Tablets, take 1 tablet by mouth daily. I tried all of the home remedies that I could find on the internet. Nothing worked for me and I couldn't take the terrible pain I was in when I did get gout. I finally found a doctor that prescribed the Allopurinol tablets and all is well. I don't leave home without it. EVER.

Usually if I feel my toe itch that is the start of gout, try taking the turmeric with the cherry juice.

I like cafinated coffee, not strong and not weak.  I have tried many, and grinding beans, and the best tasting (affordable) coffee I ever found was Costco Kirkland brand 100 percent Columbian in the brown can.  Over time, you learn to make it just to your taste.  Life without it would suck.  I have given up most vices, but need a couple to stay sane.

I never go to Starbucks or buy latee-expresso-cream-cinnamin-double shot-bull semen yuppy delight.

I can vouch for the cherry juice. My problem is I like it so much I drink a 6 month supply in about a week. I like it that much. Another thing that works quickly when a bout comes on is a small amount of apple cider vinegar with an equal amount of water...you will have to guzzle it down, as it tastes terrible but it seems to keep the gout away for 6 months before I need to do it again.

If I can make a suggestion about apple cider vinegar. Don't drink the grocery store apple cider vinegar, it is like drinking as astone. Grocery store vinegars are filtered and processed with minimal nutrient benefits. I recommend Braggs raw-unfiltered apple cider vinegar with the mother. Grocery stores may have it, but I get it at the health food store, it has a yellow label. I take two table spoons a day and it doesn't take your breath away.

It is indeed some nasty stuff.  I believe that I've read before that it's banned in some states (California being one) and that it's a known carcinogen.

It also tends to dissolve rubber.

allopurinol (as suggested above)  is what my mom and dad had to be on for life after age 50 or so.  Sure hope I don't get it when I get older I remember my dad's ankle/foot swelling up SO bad it was 2x's normal size and could not walk on it and was in severe pain.

One time we had to take him in to ER since his foot was swollen so bad his ankle/lower leg was starting to burst/bleed which they say can happen in severe cases.

This is gonna hurt.

Stop drinking alcohol.

Red Meat, very bad for the old gout.

Eat more nuts, esp. Walnuts. Natural Pain Relief.

Weight Loss will help as well.

Ask T-Bird about the drinking and gout.

He can fill you in.

Decaf where I used to work, we used the Folgers, Decaf for those that liked or needed it. I drank it

as well. No Complaints and I take the coffee reg and decaf black.

Magnesium Glycinate, will help, if you can find it. It has to be Glycinate. Check it out on Google.

it is a real health nut food. Body Builders and Power Lifters use it as a muscle builder.

More muscle means less fat.

I take the Allopurinol daily to keep the gout away. If I get gout that means no riding my valk for at least 2 weeks or more until the swelling goes down and the pain goes away.  Gout is some nasty stuff.     :tickedoff: I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Two things I read awhile back. If you are on prescription medication, before taking minerals or vitamins always ask your doctor before taking them. Some minerals or vitamins can weaken, dilute or even neutralize medication.  The other thing is, never take minerals with vitamins, take them separately at different times of the day.  I guess the minerals attach to vitamins and go out as waste through the poop shoot.

I drink at least 10 cups of black coffee per day, and I don't have Gout. :cooldude:

Drinking coffee has never given me a hangover, and I know what hangovers feel like (had more than my share). >:(

Coffee/Caffeine helps to counteract the effects of the many drugs that I need to take on a daily basis.
The drugs I need to take to control my neuro-muscular (spasms) issues and cause dizziness/drowzyness to an extreme level. The coffee must be very strong and I'd rather drink coffee than be a vibrating vegtable.

Coffee is good medicine,.....Star Bucks is for people that don't know the medicinal uses of the brew and those that may have more money than sense. JMHO

And I also drink concentrated cherry juice for extreme pain.

There are people out there that seriously think more is better, wrong!!  It is call excessive compulsive behavior. Point is, to much of anything will hurt you, for instance someone eating vitamins they don't need and they eat to many and gets sick. So now they think vitamins are bad because they were abusive. So that also applies to coffee.  Example: your on your bike you pull into a gas station to get fuel. Now you put 3 cups of pure gas and one gallon of octane or even ethanol alcohol in your tank. What do you think will happen over time. your body is no different. A safe amount is about 3 cups or 400 milligrams a day, also caffeine stays in you system for 8 hrs.. Point is don't have caffeine 8 hrs. before bed if you have trouble sleeping.

An MD. will never advise minerals and vitamins as they have no clue about them and they make no money if they tell you to take them. A well nourished body will make your medication work better and faster if medication is needed ........... most times it won't be if we take care of ourselves properly.  My mineral \ vitamin supplementation comes complete in powder form that is mixed on a glass of water. Phytates found in certain foods can block the absorption of minerals by your body. So learning what foods that have phytates and avoiding the taking of your supplements with those foods would be of benefit.

Minerals and vitamins are food.

I was diagnosed as having the gout before I was 21.  It is passed usually from father to son, tho some women do get it.   There are two types, have fun names but have forgotten them.  One type requires medicine to keep it in check.  The other type can be controlled by diet.

I have the later, thankfully.   Finding this out ruined a perfectly good drinking career.   As mentioned above food and alcohol can cause the gout problems to come on.  My sister is a dietitian, she wrote me a diet plan.  At the time I was diagnosed, I was eating nearly 2lbs of meat a day and drinking a bit.  I had trouble hold my weight at that time, 6' 4" and 180 lbs.   She wanted me to only eat, 4 oz of meat a day.  I compromised and lower my consumption to around a pound.  It worked for me.  so far I am doing OK for the last 48 years.

As a side note, the gout isn't all bad, It gave me a 1-Y rating with the selective service back in '79.

I remember my induction physical well.

They got us stripped to our skivies going from station to station but kept marching the clothed girls past us back and forth.  I'm like, How come they get to keep their clothes on, fair is fair?  Shudupp! If we want your opinion, we'll ask for it.

Bend over and spread your cheeks.  Wait, I hardly know you!!   ;D

Hey, I change this glove every half hour or so.... whether it needs it or not.     :o

I passed with flying colors.  Not drafted, took a commission.

My induction center was at Maxwell/Gunter AFB in Montgomery, Al.

Back then, it was a long, two story wooden barracks kind of building.  They started you at one end and ran you from one end of it to the other.  The last room at the end was the bend over and cough part.

Lesson learned.....always be on the front row.  The view is much better.

Bruce, after USAF gave me a commission, the HQ JAG pentagon assignment people called and among other things asked where I'd like to serve.  I get a choice?  No, but we will try to accommodate you if we can, needs of the service and all.

So I said, anywhere on either coast would be great.

So I got the coast of the AL River at Maxwell AFB...... this was just one of the many funny ironies of military service.
