:)  Spending your money where it does the most good is also meaningful.  We need folks to spend their money staying at Ground Zero each year as the hosting hotel takes part of that money to take care of services they provide...
I fully understand the importance of supporting the GZ location that supports us; however, Karen and I really enjoy our fifth wheel and using it on trips like this. Is there a GZ campground associated with Inzane this year?

Of course, staying at GZ location offers the best InZane experience for attendees, so we don't typically have an official campground.  That said, it appears that Chris' Campground would be ideal for those so inclined.  We don't have space blocked, so early reservations might be a good idea.

Some of us really enjoy the camping experience and there are more campgrounds in the Black Hills then any where else I know of.  The VRCC Inzane committee has never endorsed a particular campground for the rally.  I was out there last week, camped South of Deadwood, and asked about campgrounds around Spearfish.  These two were recommended and they come up near the top when going a Google search.  They both have good reviews.

City of Spearfish, SD Parks & Recreation - Campground; www.spearfishparksandrec.com/campground/

Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort; www.elkhornridgervresort.com/

I'm a minimumlist type of camper, tenting it and carrying everything on the bike.

Well Connie got a reply in before I did.  Connie, are you saying that the Chris Campground is near GZ?

Of these two, City of Spearfish CG is slightly closer than Elkhorn.

Comparing those campgrounds it's not much of a decision. Spearfish campground is heavily "forested" and Elkhorn ridge appears to be devoid of trees! (Being transplanted from Tennessee to Oklahoma, I need my tree fix from time to time!)
I'm going to call right now and make reservations for one of their premium sites (if they'll take them this far in advance).
I'll post back in a new InZane Camping thread about the reservation process and experience.

The route you have from Spearfish to Denver.

That is one SLOW route.    Last time I was on it, it was narrow in places, LOTS of fun curves however.

Ya just don't wantto be in a hurry taking it.    It is also in what I consider a descolate (sp) area.

Don't remember too many gas stations and etc on it.

Maybe some one from the area will pipe up and give ya a more up to date information.      It was several years ago that i took that road.

That route will be fine.  My brother lives in Denver, and that is one of the ways I go to see him and his family.  There are stretches without gas stations, like in ALL of the West!  Watch the map, and fill up before hitting the long stretches.  There is NO stretch that you cannot make easily, as long as you fill before starting it.

You will be traveling speed limit the whole way. It is as quick as any other.  You can go farther west, and pickup more interstate, and go faster legally.  But, that is farther, so total time is about the same.  And, who wants to go interstate anyway?

My guess, and guess only.

Holiday Inn, east side of Spearfish.  Just off Interstate, near Chris's Campground.   https://www.google.com/maps/place/Holiday+Inn+Spearfish-Convention+Center/@44.481243,-103.814826,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x467b061d2f9c8b45

If I was camping there, I would camp at the City Campground.  VERY nice place.  Grass, lots of trees, little stream running thru.  It is BEAUTIFUL. I have camped there several times over the years, and it is one of my favorites anywhere.

Chris' is a little closer to GZ... I don't know anything about any of them.
I think the Spearfish City one is adjacent to the park we will be using for the early bird get-together.

Yes, it right down the same road, as you leave the park going south, you go into the campground.  Both are beautiful places.  I have used both before, and hope to go back.

One of the many must see things in the black hills is Crazy Horse. Besides the tour, there is a unbelievable night time lazar show projected on the mountain. Once a year they open the construction roads to the public for a hiking to the top of the mountain. It's on my bucket list, but what's the chance I would be there that day. I googled it, looks like it's the first weekend in June. Check it out!!!!

Our early bird night is the 7th, you could easily extend your stay to include Saturday, as well.  The hotel will honor our rates two days before and two days after our dates (June 7-12).  Most of the VRCC staff will be arriving on Friday, the 5th.

Awesome ride. Iron Mntn Rd. It has more curves in less miles then Deals Gap.

Maybe someone can find my fake velocity stack filter I lost in the turn.  :-\

I really hope to make it, since this maybe the closest it comes to me. I've not followed the InZane posts, since I had no chance to make one.

I also hope there will be some posts about rides to make like the above. Like a google map route so others have an idea of what to do and where to ride, since I'm unfamiliar with the area.

I was going to try to go to Stugis next year to meet up with Ultimate Seat, and buy a seat for my GW. But with InZane coming to almost the same place, I would rather check out the Valkyries than all the Harleys.

Was going to ride onto Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and back home through Yellow Stone. Other thoughts where Custer's and Deadwood.

Already getting grief from my wife about taking a week trip without her. Told her to come along. Then the next weekend is the annual VRCC-BC and PNW Valhalla rally at Soap Lake WA, which I usually try to take 5 days to do.

My assumption is, she took you for better or worse.    She needs to come along to see you at your best and worst.   ;)

I really do hope to meet you there.    I've also got some challenges to getting there but, they aren't based on the spouse, more on finances and time but, I'm working on it.

the welcome centers and most gas stations have maps of the hills for free. All the routes are on there. Most of the stuff/rides in the hills can be seen in a very long day.
