Lap top can't keep open communication with wireless printers made by HP SPECIFICALLY made to communicate with other HP hardware.

Run away and buy something else.

We bought an HP desktop at OfficeMax a few years ago. Spent 2 days trying to get it going with no luck. Some dude from Pakistan told me to box it up and send it to them and they would fix it. It was BRAND NEW OUT OF THE BOX ! I took it to OfficeMax and told them I wanted a refund. They tried to replace it but by this time I wanted nothing to do with HP. Got my money back and have never looked at HP products again.

Bundled computers have to much stuff on them. I build mine from scratch. Currently have an 8 core amd over locked running with a liquid cooled cooler windows 7. Has been working fine fore 2 yrs now. Have a 3 yr old HP laptop that never worked right either. Bought windows 7 ssd drive and installed win 7 runs great now. Get rid of the factory installed stuff will boot faster and run cleaner. If you can't return it get an ssd drive do a clean install with a virgin copy of operating system and install and run only what you want. Most problems solved. Best of luck.

Hmm, maybe the quality has went south, I have a 3 year old hp laptop and it has been very reliable, no wireless problems. I run 2 wireless printers and it links to them without any problems. I pack it on every long trip on the bike.

I think it is because I like new stuff. Still never a problem and yes like my Mac mini, never a problem but I would buy new Apple stuff as well like my 4th iPad this time the i-pad air I just got.

My former HP laptop about 6 years ago got at bestbuy black friday deal had a recall on it soon after 1 year was running hot and fried the internals as some laptops like HP brands can run hot (fan inside doesn't work effectively thus the recall notice).  I called HP and they sent me a brand new upgraded, bigger and better HP laptop and even let me choose out of 3-4 different versions/models.  Still going strong after 5 years or so now but a few buttons are coming off sort of as well as some finer parts. 

Laptops are so cheap nowadays you can buy pretty much any medium quality laptop for under 350 bucks no problems anymore.  I do think though HP laptops are at best, so-so quality and definitely not the tops in quality but not the worst either.    Maybe you just got a bad apple in the bunch?  Try calling HP tech support,  they have been VERY helpful to me especially on my recalled HP laptop some 6+ years ago when was fairly new about 1 year old when started to overheat.

Have had bad luck with HP Printers (no matter the cost) but never had an HP computer.  Use Lenevo for laptops and Dell for desktops.

I agree with TallRider - except, maybe I'd do error checks on the HD first.  If OK, then just reformat the drive and install the OS and the apps you use.  It's a shame to dump a perfectly good hard drive.

 Ok to be fair I will never buy a Dell again not because most of the time their computers are garbage not unlike most, but the customer service is a complete waste of my time, which is the only reason to buy a Dell also. I have seen most any computer including Apples have problems with hardware. But Apples its almost impossible to repair if a board goes out others you can order a new part and have it up and running. I make my own computers most of the time its cheaper, no ad garbage and it usually is more durable and lasts longer. One of my computers is a 12 core Intel that I did when they were at core wars. I must say though for heavy computing stuff it does not get slowed down.

Has anyone really looked inside their computer to see what is in there? Most store bought or Dell, Hp and the rest not much and when you get into this you find that the cost of the components is really cheap compared to what you get.

Britman could you post what you have done to establish a connection and maybe we could help you to get it done?

Some of what you're describing sounds like symptoms of viruses. Have you run virus scans? We were standardized on HPs where I used to work and they were nearly bulletproof.

I learned the hard way about HP products [ printers] decades ago. Will never ever own one of their products again.
Finally switched to Mac about 5 years ago, best computer I've ever had [ but I'm as computer illiterate as they come].

I thought I wanted a Lexmark printer when I bought the Macbook, but, the Apple genius insisted a couple times that I wanted an Epson. When I finally asked why, he said because it was free. So, laughing, I finally agreed with him. Have not had a single issue with it and it is one of those all-in-one thingys. It just drinks ink faster than I can drink beer on a warm day.



I happen to think Carly knocked it out of the park the other night, but, I have to remember she was part of HP when I had some of their junk. So that gets me thinking whether I really do like her or not.

I tied connecting the printer by cable. I can send the print job and NOTHING.

Can't restart the print job. NOTHING.

It's back in its box to be returned.

I've been using a refurbished Gateway, about seven yrs. now with nary a hitch. But, 2-3 yrs. ago I bought an HP Officejet 6700 All In One printer, what a PITA it is. Does a nice job of printing, but will suddenly go into a "self-check" mode that lasts for maybe 5 minutes, often in the middle of a print job. That usually requires starting over where it left off. HP has never given me a straight answer on a fix so I put up with it for now. When the time comes to replace it, I'll most likely not look at HP again.

I gave away a Dell OptiPlex 240 (must be 2000 - 2002 vintage) to a friend loaded with Ubuntu and I found out he is still using it. I guess we can all experience trouble at times.  Back in 2000-2009 I was facilities Manager of a 25,000 SF building made up of cubical farms and lots of computers. The desktops, laptops and all the servers were Dell. I helped IT by setting up and imaging computers and setting up new HP printers and we had a lot of them. Honestly all I remember was replacing power supplies in the dell desktops and that was easy and I stocked the
PS so I had the workers back at it real quick.

It's possible to get a "Lemon" in anything.

There are two brands that I will NEVER buy again:

1) Asus.

2) Dell.

Asus because the motherboard crapped out on my laptop 3 days out of warranty and they wouldn't work with me in any way shape or form to repair it.

Dell because every time I needed to call customer service NO-ONE spoke english.


I've had two HP laptops with no issues.

The wife is using one that was a great price and has given no problems (had for about 1yr).

I'm using a Toshiba that I like and will probably purchase another one when I upgrade.


I have found HP bubble jet printers to be "Rock Solid" they do tend to eat up a lot of ink though.

My current printer is a Canon Color Laser that has no problems communicating with any of the laptops.


It just struck me, is the new laptop using Windows 10?

I paid someone to save my data when my last computer gave the screen of death and he also made sure the windows 7 and everything worked  I sure miss xp it was so easy for me to learn stuff.

Paid him $400.00 and that included everything I had made it to the new computer and even the data I had on my 20 yr old lifeboat computer running 3.1 not connected to internet.  My new one is a Dell and if there is a problem that was his doing no charge otherwise he takes over my computer remotely and works it out  Also have some kind of cloud backup.  No secretary audition pics searching done at work not worth virus risk

HP printers do suck at losing the wireless, my wife has one    The brother printer had to be replaced 3 times under warranty,  In fact all of my brother printers crap out in 2-3 years  Mostly I print onto the Kyocera high speed copier and scan and email stuff thru it as well

I'm a 100% Apple guy and have been since 1984. I also run a small tech support business for Apple products. However, I have many clients who also use Windows computers and many HP printers. I'm a big fan of HP printers and have recommended and installed more of them than any other brand and use them in my own setup.
I don't do tech support with Windows computers but have had to work with them in my work. I'm wondering if your problem might be the operating system, which may have gotten corrupt, rather than the HP hardware. Would it not be simpler to strip it down and reinstall the system rather than start all over again with new hardware? More times than not, problems like you're having are ultimately with software instead of the hardware. HP isn't a fly-by-night manufacturer and they make quality products, but any system can get corrupted and screw up the works.
Just my 2cents worth of thoughts.

Came with 10 installed and I immediately used a compatible  wireless mouse.
