I'm looking for a clamp-on holder for my phone, which is an LG about the size of an iPhone 6. Anybody have experience with these holders – what's a good one to get that will not be a piece of junk? Thanks.

Check out Amazon. I just got one the other day. Roam for $10.98 shipped. It's all plastic but looks very secure. I had a similar one on my VTX for several years with no problems. You can get real nice metal ones but you will spend like $75-100.

I have used GPS City for all of my bike mounts for several years.  I am in Canada but there is a U.S. based one as well.

Great pricing, great delivery, great product.

They have all sorts of different mounts for handlebars ,, etc as well as joining extensions and best of all specific holders for specific GPS, phones, etc.

When I have upgraded phones ... all I did was buy a new holder and it attached to the other existing parts.  Same for when I changed GPS units ... cost effective !

There is a gallery on their site ... showing all sorts of customer installations, applications.

Here are couple pics of mine on my 2000 Interstate ... handlebar clamp with ball, clamp extension and unique to product holders

I went a cheaper route...

I had an old handle bar clamp for a cup holder.. bought a belt clip holder for my iPhone 6 ( also had a 5)

Used some threaded rod, angle iron and a chrome toilet line to dress it up... total invested like $10

Mounted it so I can take pictures and video on the road.. heres a pic..

I use a Ram X-Grip for my iPhone.  thousands of miles and it has never let go.

I found the GPS City US site. northernunity I like your Interstate setup. Can you post what mounts off there site you have? I'm interested in a phone and GPS mount setup like what you posted in your pictures for my Interstate.

I wired in a USB charger on my bike with a single throw switch and a 10amp fuse.  Then I bought a generic phone holder.  This bike already had an old Tomtom GPS mount but, no GPS.  So, I used that mount, removed the wiring and took the bolts out that held the GPS mount.  Then I used a 2 part epoxy to glue the generic phone mount to the old ball mount/flat plate from the tomtom mount.  It looks good and works good.  I was riding on concrete interstate and the constant thumping over the seams in the concrete caused the phone to start slipping up.  On regular asphalt it did great.  But, my point is consider a phone holder that touches the phone on all four sides.

Those products are actually Ram Mounts.  You can buy them from GPSCity.com, ExpressMounts.com, or directly from the Ram Mount site.  They make mounts for motorcycles, boats, cars, and trucks.  They have phone, GPS, camera, even PC mounts for police cars.  They are far and away the best mounts on the market.  Rather than try to design their own, Garmin includes them with the Zumo.

I was in a hurry and all I could find was a Schwinn smart phone mount for a bicycle at Wal-Mart. It has been from Santa Fe, Tx. to Inzane all around and back. Still hanging in there to. $15

I bought this one from Valkorado's tip at http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,86034.0.html

Inexpensive, works great and has a plug for the USB power wire.  Bought a small wire at ebay.  Works great, used it across country to inzane.  $15.38 with free shipping. Will hold anything shaped sorta like a phone.  I used a ball mount I already had on hand from Garmin to mount it to my handlebar.

Thanks for the tip Seth.

Here is a link to GPS City > Canada
http://www.gpscity.ca/gallery/2015/ram-mounts-for-motorcycles-are-great

which shows the individual pieces I used

The package part on that site for the Iphone4 is RAM-B-149-AP9U ... if you look below the item on that site they show the 4 pieces that make it up ... I used the same 3 attachment pieces for the GPS ... with a specific Garmin mount .

Hope this helps

I see this post is a few days old but I thought I would chime in. I have used one from Barefoot Willies for several years without any issues. Very sturdy and reasonably priced. http://www.barefootwillies.com/Barefoot-Willies-Motorcycle-Phone-Holder-s/1818.htm

That X-Grip looks like a knock off RAM X-Grip.  It doesn't have the RAM markings or Patent numbers on it.
I bought mine straight from Ram and it has carried iPhones and Android phones faithfully for a couple of years now.
