Fox News made a good point.  Yeah, I know, some of you think that Faux News is incapable of doing that.

Stop and consider. In every presidential election in the past, and I've seen many, the choice for VP has always been the "attack dog", both Dems. and Repubs.  I can't name all of the VP's but Cheney and Biden come to mind.

The nominated VP's have had the history of taking the flak and handing it out..........................until now.

Mike Pence is no attack dog, Trump is.   Looks like the rolls will be reversed.  I'm starting to get some enthusiasm for the Trump/Pence ticket besides Beat Hilary.  I believe that Pence will satisfy many in doubt and that Trump will be the 'attack dog' against Hilary.  I only wonder if he has enough ammunition. Grin

Cruz, as far as I'm concerned, now has become a non-entity.  I believe that he will be sorta like MacArthur's retiring speech  "just fade away".

Of course I'm not a Carl Rove or any one that knows the political process. Any thing could happen.

Unless Cruz believes Hillary is the better choice, then his speech last night was purely self serving, and outright sabotage to the republican party (to which he belongs) and the Trump campaign.  I don't care how nice and uplifting and neutral his actual words were, his net action introduced conflict and doubt and spin and did more to hurt the republican ticket than if he had not spoken at all.

I like him (or used to), he would be my pick for the ticket (if he could get elected), but the people overwhelmingly pushed Trump to the top.  He had already taken many opportunities to voice all the bad Trump news he had to say.  It didn't get him the nomination.  And he wasn't going to get a spontaneous uprising from the delegates to suddenly change the ticket to him.

As the solid #2 and a solid conservative, he deserved a place at the podium, and the Convention/Trump gave him that opportunity out of respect (with or without a pre-review of his speech).  He used his opportunity to hurt the party and Trump and all the American people who supported Trump, and helped the Clinton campaign.

He could have taken the podium and (forgetting all the uplifting feel good words), said he thought he was the better man for the job, and why, and said he was not sure Trump was the right man, and why, but at the end of that speech, he should have said that regardless of his reservations, he supported the democratic process, he supported the Republican party, he understood the American people had spoken (very loud and clear), and despite any reservations he knew in his heart Trump would be better for the country than Hillary, so he was throwing his solid support behind Trump, the Party, democracy, and the American people.  Everyone would have instantly forgiven his earlier divisive comments, and he would have received a roar of approval and love (which would not be forgotten).

Or he should have stayed home (and maybe written a statement for the news, but not to be played at the convention).

Cruz was a dick.  If he thought Hillary was the better choice, he should have simply said so.  His actions support the same result.  If he thought he was helping himself in four years, he was wrong, and so self serving.

Cruz is a pretty good speaker when he's not playing the role of "sore loser".
I am disappointed in his speech and honestly believe he may have just stepped on any future national opportunities.   That's a shame to because, up to that point, he was my favored candidate.

Trump's daughter gave a damn fine speech to introduce Trump.

IMHO, Trump is not a great speaker but, he gave a good speech.   Can't watch the whole speech, have to work the early shift and this "ole boy" needs his beauty sleep.  Wink

As I've said elsewhere, I was once a NeverTrump'er... Still preferred others... But listening to him, I'm cursed close to donning a Trump Hat...

How sad is it that in the current state of our country, I'm worried I'd need to wear a bullet resistant vest and carry a few extra magazines on me if I were to wear that hat in public? Says a lot...

I've had the honor of meeting Senator Cruz in person and chatting with him in person. I have no concerns with him.

I watched his entire speech (i'm retired)

While he doesn't have much style, I was impressed by most of it. He made a number of promises that he won't be able to fulfil and the Dems and the liberal press are going to jump all over them.  A Lincoln or Ronald Reagan, he's not.  He also is not the glib, used car salesman who is in office now.  He also is not the lying, self serving, money and power hungry scheming candidate who will be at her coronation in Philly.

I, frankly, don't give a damn (as Clark Gable once said). He mentioned every single thing that needs to be changed from what's happening with the present POTUS in charge.

I don't believe that he was lying about any thing but, yeah, it's an ambitious agenda.  If he  accomplishes even a part of what he says, our Republic will be better for it.  I believe that he, and our governor will get the job done.

Now watch the plethora of snide, damning comments from the other side, and supported by a press just itching to try to denigrate Donald Trump (further)

Yesterday Cruz just got crucified all over the place.  Much of it came from Texas delegation and past staffers, some high level.  A staffer that would go on the radio and TV interviews and debates in support for Cruz in the spring,  let it be known she was done with him and gave her support to Trump.

The Trump campaign had read Cruz's speech.  In any other convention by either party in the past they would not have let him go on. This would go against all conventional wisdom, but Trump is the most unconventional candidate in my lifetime. Instead Donald or someone else high in his staff laid a trap where they would win and unify either way.  The hope was Cruz would come around and support.  But they were ready for what happened.  When at the end it was apparent he would not endorse the NY delegates led by someone planted ( probably Peter King ) to chant endorse Trump.  That got the whole arena to do the same.  At this time the screen went blank as power was cut.  Trump appeared at the top of the Arena right on cue and walked down to his family while the arena applauded and cheered him and Cruz meekly walked off stage and lost a tremendous amount of credibility.   The effect of all this was Cruz got a whole day's worth of very very negative press and a whole bunch of his and Kasich's and other's supporters came over.  Also the libertarian vote  in November got reduced from 6 to 10 percent to probably less than 2 percent for right now in my opinion.   Also the talk yesterday was Trump was magnanimous in allowing Cruz to speak.  OK  a great hearted guy or is he just sly as a fox.
A Brilliant indeed.

His style is the non polished straight forward and at you ( John Wayne style) and pc be cursed style.  His career was correctly displayed before by the brief video showing a get it done ahead of schedule and under cost demeanor. He is a tireless worker and when he looked at middle America and small business owners in the eye last night and said you are the forgotten people and I am working for you,  believe me you can believe him.  The promises ( or maybe better agenda ) is huuuuge and imposing indeed.  However if anyone can get it done, or at least close or a good share it is Trump as this is his life story and his commitment and resolve are genuine.

You know, Serk, you and I stand at relatively distant point politically but it often surprises me how close our responses are.  I was not a big Trump fan but I came away from that speech convinced that not only was he the people's anti-politician choice but that he is indeed the man for the job.

I was impressed that at the right times he even showed humility.  That's not his normal history.  I was also greatly impressed with his daughter's introduction.

I too was impressed with Ivanka's speech. All his kids gave good speeches. Which brings me to ask something that may be trivial but I was struck by it when he said it. He made a reference to his kids and how he was very proud of them. Then he said something along the lines of "Didn't Ivana and Melania do a good job ?" Did he forget about his other daughter and her mom Marla Maples ? Or is there still some bad feelings there and he did it on purpose ?
As far as Donald's speech. He is no Ronald Reagan or even George W. That was the most negative uninspiring speech I've ever seen a nominee ever give. But I will acquiesce that may be what the Republicans wanted to hear. I don't see how it makes anybody in the middle that may be undecided want to jump onboard.

Different eyes, different ears see and hear differently.

I'd agree that it was unlikely to attract the approval of very many "liberal thinkers".  I won't get into discussing what I think would have.

It was a speech primarily for and to the Republican national convention.  I don't suppose Hillary's and Chelsea's speeches will do a lot to swing conservative voters.   Sad

I don't think either candidate is going to pick off voters from the other camp. But it would seem prudent for them to try to inspire the undecided in the middle. If Clinton does the same as Trump just did she will be making a huge mistake in my opinion. I think most people think we are a great country and we can do great things. I think this was Reagans greatest attribute.

Perhaps it's just a misunderstanding of what was being done.  Donald Trump was doing his best to solidify support within the Republican party.  If Hillary Clinton assumes she already has that universal support within the Democratic party she will be making a serious mistake.

Last night for Mr. Trump was inspiring the Republican support.  The next four months will be about attracting some of those in the "middle ground".  I can only guess that the strategy for the other side will be similar.  I hope you're wrong about the picking off voters from the other camp.  It is my sincere hope that as some become more aware of Hillary Clinton's participation in the deaths of an American ambassador and his protectors as well as her participation in making ISIS what it is today they will abandon ship.

Cross your fingers for the next four months.  They will make a great difference in the direction of the United States of America and possibly the world itself.

It might boil down to whether we want to change back to at least what we were or whether we want a lot of 'free stuff"

If the 'free stuff' voters have more votes then we, we will lose the election.  "Free stuffers' liked Sanders and Hilary knows that.  Wow! just think of what kind of 'creative' lying will take place!!!!

H'mmm.  I wonder if illegals will vote.  Just think.  Lots of 'free stuff" and not have to pay for it.

Maybe we need to think about 'hanky panky' at the polls.

I am glad you were impressed, both Willow and Serk, and any others who did not know the real Trump.
Fact is being humble is a trait of his, and it was in his campaign speeches on the trail, like the one I witnessed first hand in Dayton back last March.  His children accurately portrayed his nature in his business and personal dealings over the past four nights.  It is just that the lame stream media, and even Fox did not show this side of him over the past year.  They only look for red meat and controversy and supplied the nation with this and not the whole picture.  Donald Trump treats every person as if that person is important and has an uncanny ability to treasure his employees opinions and give them  big responsibilities. If an employee has a better idea Trump will go with it.  He has taught his children to do the same I have heard this time and time again from both employees' , associates, peers, and others that know the real Trump.  All the people that know Trump say he is a very gracious person.

It is just in this political arena Trump is very aware that we must win or watch the country continue it's downward economic slide while the opponents portray this as the new normal.  Unlike Romney and McCain he will not pull many punches as this is how his opponents have operated since the days of Johnson and he will match them punch for punch.  For the first time since Reagan we have a fighter on our side.

The most beautiful moment of the convention besides Trump's big speech and his daughter' introduction, that was the high point!  Next to that was Chris Christie almost begging to be Trump's Attorney General.  Oh man!  Can you just imagine, if Trump wins Hillary (among others) will be TOAST, FINALLY!

Go Trump!

Then he said something along the lines of "Didn't Ivana and Melania do a good job ?" Did he forget about his other daughter and her mom Marla Maples ? Or is there still some bad feelings there and he did it on purpose ?

Trump: "In this journey, I'm so lucky to have at my side my wife Melania and my wonderful children Don, Ivanka, Eric, Tiffany, and Barron: You will always be my greatest source of pride and joy. And, by the way, Melania and Ivanka, did they do a job?"

He didn't mention Ivana.  I believe he was referring to Melania and Ivanka's speeches, not raising of children.

How the media spins!

I had to shoot an email to 9News Denver morning anchor Cory Rose, who reported that in last night's speech Mr. Trump said he proposed that he would solve terrorism and violent street crime single-handedly.  Bring a copied email chain, it reads bottom to top.  I would have spent more time with my emails, but I was also (hopefully) fixing a petcock in the rain.  I was surprised to get the first reply, but do not expect another.  Email addresses deleted to protect the innocent. coolsmiley

Thanks for your reply. Does 9News really believe Mr. Trump thinks he can fix all our problems single-handedly? You did not acknowledge his statements about how he plans to appoint the best and work closely with current police, prosecutors and military personnel. I believe Mr. Trump was saying he is the only candidate running for POTUS who truly knows the system. But I guess I'm just knit picking, huh?

And, Bernie never did have a chance. For what that's worth.

BTW, I've been watching since the Karl Akers days, but I'm reconsidering.

This morning you were presenting a story regarding Donald Trump's speech at the Republican Convention last night. You said (something to the effect of, I paraphrase) Trump presented his plan to end terrorism and crime pretty much single-handedly, meaning by himself. Trump did not say any such thing, and several times he indicated he plans to put the brightest and most qualified experts around him and he will work closely with police, prosecutors and military personnel.

I am fed up with such attempts to demonize Mr. Trump at every opportunity. I realize you probably didn't write the story, but please make your best effort to present the news in an unbiased manner and stick to the facts.

And Hillary said she had to duck and cover from live fire!  Oh, yeah, and Benghazi was caused by a video.  And she did not have any classified emails on her (multiple) servers and (multiple) devices.  Etc., etc., etc..

Valkorado, ease up. I know he misspoke. Just thought it was kind of humorous . If the Donald could stop crime and violence just by getting sworn in, hell even I would vote for him.  coolsmiley

Nope, he didn't say that.  Perhaps you mis-heard one of these statements:

"On January 20 of 2017, the day I take the oath of office, Americans will finally wake up in a country where the laws of the United States are enforced."

"Beginning on January 20th 2017, safety will be restored."

"I have a message to every last person threatening the peace on our streets and the safety of our police: when I take the oath of office next year, I will restore law and order to our country."

Nope, he didn't say that.  Perhaps you mis-heard one of these statements:

"On January 21st of 2017, the day after I take the oath of office, Americans will finally wake up in a country where the laws of the United States are enforced."

"I have a message to every last person threatening the peace on our streets and the safety of our police: when I take the oath of office next year, I will restore law and order to our country."
This is the quote I was referring to :
"I have a message for all of you: The crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon — and I mean very soon come to an end. Beginning on January 20th 2017, safety will be restored."
Sounds to me like he is saying crime and violence will come to an end soon. Jan. 20th to be exact.
Now I do realize he probably didn't mean it but that was his quote.

Hmm..........  Realizing that I was at the end of a long day and really needed some "beauty sleep", I don't remember him saying that precisely.   Maybe your memory is better than mine.   Is that an exact quote or was there some wordsmithing involved?   Is that a precise quote or, does it need the rest of what he said to be taken in the correct context?

As I said, I was tired and in desperate need of some rest and relaxation but, I was fully aware that he promised to be the "law and order" President and he made several other statements but, I don't remember him saying quite like you state.

Edited: F6 gal addressed the exact wording without interpretation.   Unless we're pleading a case in front the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, I think this accusation is proven wrong.   If we are in front of the 9th CC, then no evidence will sway the court.

You guys (Lefties) crack me up.  Trying to create a controversy where none exists.

You just can't stand it can you...the Trump bashing was not warranted.  He out classes the tired old hag the Dems are pushing.  He got record votes and sounds like he will be what America needs!

Hard to admit it, isn't it?  You don't have to tell us if you do, just get out and do it and tell all yer friends to vote for TRUMP/PENSE

Just do it!

I thought that this would fit in with the general discussion here.

We have two newspapers in Ft. Wayne, one conservative and one liberal.   The News Sentinel, a conservative paper, unfortunately, has a smaller budget than the Journal Gazette, the liberal.

So, the NS uses many articles of national origin, written by the Associated Press.  The GOP convention  was one article which appeared in tonight's conservative News Sentinel.

I wrote a letter to the editor, which follows.  A thousand cuts are starting.  The liberal press is at work,

Here's the letter for what it's worth

Kerry,

I’ve talked to you before. I do not subscribe to the Journal Gazette because I don’t like their liberal stance.

I subscribe to the News Sentinel because I like your conservative approach, and especially Kevin Leininger’s articles.

However, (did you see that coming, LOL?) I again note the main page has an article describing Donald Trump and the GOP convention.  This article, again, was written by reporters of the Associated Press, which, for the most part, I believe, is liberal and slanted.

I will quote various snippets. “closed out his convention on a high note for the party, not a moment too soon, after shows of disharmony, etc” , another “Trump’s more than hour-long speech was strikingly dark for a celebratory event and almost entirely lacking in policy details.”  “ Trump shouted throughout as he read off a teleprompter, showing few flashes of humor or even a smile.”
More  “ The Democratic convention in Philadelphia, which starts Monday, is expected to be a more disciplined affair. Clinton is, if any thing, disciplined.”

The English language can be used in various ways.  In this case, it was used to make snide and untruthful remarks about the Republican nominee and make positive remarks about the coming Democratic convention and Hilary Clinton.  They were right in one respect though. Hilary is a very disciplined................liar.

I watched the speech of Trump’s and I noted his stern determination to rectify the problems of our country.  The problems caused by a lying and corrupt administration are no laughing matter.

Now, if I could watch the speech, and comment on it, why can’t a CONSERVATIVE reporter for the News Sentinel do the same and publish an article in the News Sentinel instead of ‘imported, slanted, snide reporting by the Associated Press.  Surely you have the staff to do that?
