The twist is I already have (2) 1500 valks. 1 standard and 1 tourer , plus a garage full of hoarded stuff. I don't have room for a 3rd bike. So the wife said if I get rid of one 1500 and sell my "spare" stuff, I can use those proceeds to buy a new Valk. I was thinking of selling the standard and stripping the tourer to make it a standard to get the new bike to have 1 1500 and 1 1800. My wife made this tuff calling my bluff to put up and sell some of my stuff off to get a fuel injected Valk . And I can't afford a storage unit to hide a new Valk. So I'm starting to unpack stuff and evaluate if I can pull this off. ...Thoughts? Undecided

get rid of the wife and do then what you want.... Grin

Just kidding,

I am in same boat, well sort of,  but a newer used 1800 Wing, but have to sell my 1500 Valk I/S first.  Just not ready to give it up just yet.

My advice:  drive the new Valk 1800 A TON and several rides more than just 2-5 miles at a dealership is all.   Once you get rid of one old Valk,  then is harder to replace than a new 1800 Valk.  Then again,  if you are only driving 1 of the 2 old Valks,  I guess time to get rid of one of them.

My questions is if you want a standard why not sell the tourer?

The title of the thread made me laugh. I'm just like so many men, 'needing' a kitchen pass before a bike purchase.....

Probably because the tourer is worth more by selling the bags and shield separately than on the bike. Not always but usually.

I dont know what you are looking for to pull the trigger but you would have probably done better posting this to the 1800 board. I still have my 1500 and am going to sell it, because although a great bike I find myself loving my 1800 Valkyrie. If you have one 1500 I dont understand why you would need 2 and when you get your new Valk I wonder what you will ride most of the time and what sits in the garage? I would bet it will be the 1500, as to which one its your choice. I doubt after it will  make much of a difference.

I rode my 1500 for the first time in about a year the other day and loved the ride but came home got out the 1800 and went a bit further. I understand why the wing has been the standard touring bike because you get on it and go and maintenance is low. That has transferred over to the 1800 Valk along with being quicker and giving much more of the road experience. I love my bike and cant think of another bike I would love to own.

For sure don't need two but want to have two or more.   Evil

And think of the many more here who have a few Valks.  Thankfully my wife loves this hobby!

Unless your going to put the Corbon bags on the 1800 Valk and if you tour 2 up you my want to keep the 1500 Tour for that purpose. If your better half rides with you , you need to take a ride with her to see if she is compatible with copilots spot. As we all know " if mama's not happy, no one is happy".

You should consider yourself lucky, my wife told me that I can get a new bike only if I sell the other 2 (I/S and vstrom).

I would say, go for it!

The tourer was my first Valk and I put a lot of stuff on it ( rejet carbs, dyna 3000, Ernie Shusters "dragon pack " exhaust) a lot of bling and a lot of memories.  I just bought the standard 3 years ago because it was bone stock cherry. I bought leatherlyke bags for it. I liked the how it felt without the weight of origional bags and the ease of just popping them off. So I just bought a second set of mounting studs and swap bags back and forth. I put the origional tourer bag back on now, but if I sell them it will not kill me. Plus the wife was firm I can't get rid of my first bike, she will only ride on that one. My buddy is in the same boat ( a Harley guy), he wants a Vrod but he has to sell off 2 of his cars and buy a new living room set before he can look. I feel Im getting off easy   Roll Eyes

I agree.  I headed this type issue off long ago.  It's called separate bank accounts.  You do what you want and can afford, and I'll do the same.  When we agreed on mutual benefit purchases (like furniture), we went 50/50.  This is a very good system, when both work.

And it is my experience that both parties save harder with separate accounts.  And there wasn't any of this joint account shenanigans like....Hey, you just bought that expensive rifle, so I'm going to get those diamond stud ear rings I've always wanted.

Okay.  Since you asked I will try to express myself demonstrating how well my filter works so I don't have to delete my own post.

I tend to lose some respect for a man who refers to his wife as "the boss" or uses the well known adage, "If Mama ain't happy ain't nobody happy."  I believe in a marriage it is a man's responsibility to be the provider and protector.  I wouldn't consider marrying a woman who thought she could boss me or control me.  I do put forth great effort to keep my wife happy but it is for her benefit, not mine.  I often ask my wife for her advice and I do consider her opinion but under no circumstances does she believe that she can effectively tell me I can or I can't.

I realize that I am a bit out of date, old fashioned, but I prefer it that way.  I think a lot of today's American men have not only lost the effect of what they were born with but have also abandoned their responsibilities as men in this world.

I don't necessarily suggest that the properly oriented modern (or post modern) man should adopt my views.  They don't work well for some of us.  I have had two women divorce me and sometimes I have wondered what keeps the third from following the same path.

I had a 1998 Valk 1500 and loved it, but when I rode the 1832, it was no question,  I had to have one...... Unfortunately I had to sell the 1500 to get the 1832, but it didn't go away all togeather, since I sold it to a riding buddy, to be his trip bike instead of his Harley Road King. He now rides the Harley for short day rides of less than 200 miles, but the Valkyrie is his choice for longer cross country trips...... The Valkyrie reminds him of the color scenes of older Indians, and he loves the power and sound of the six-into-six headers, says it sounds like a race car . We now have 2 Harley trikes,  my brothers FLH, sometimes another full dress Harley and 3 or sometimes 4 Valkyries in our ride club. Makes for a fun group. Man if you can keep both 1500s and get a 1832......WOW........go for it. Ride on life is good.

When I first decided to buy a street bike I told my wife what I was thinking and she said no,well I bit my tongue for a couple of months then one day I pulled up in the driveway and walked in the house and said hey come check this out. When she walked out the door her mouth got wide and she got quiet Shocked and after a couple of weeks she got over her ill  feelings.
Later after she started riding with me and actually found she enjoyed it I had already gotten rid of the bike in question and was riding a Honda shadow, we had been on an overnight trip and when we pulled in the garage she said we need a bigger bike coolsmiley so immediately after she got off the pillion I pulled back out and went straight to the dealer and within 2 hrs was back home on my '97 Bee cooldude.after riding it solely for about 8 years I decided I wanted a VTX 1800 and I got it Cheesy then 5 yrs later traded it in on a HD street glide ( big mistake  2funny) then we took a trip to Niagra falls on the HD. The very next weekend we went riding with some friends FO a long weekend and she said we are taking the Bee coolsmiley so while standing outside our hotel room talking that evening she said I wish you would sell that Damn Street Glide I ask why and she said I hate it and have since the day you brought it home and you know it. 2funny so I looked her straight in the face and said ok if you can find me a Valkyrie IS with low miles in great shape it will be gone angel well 12 days later I had my Bee and a 2010 Street Glide and a '99 IS with 8k miles on it all in the garage Smiley I did hold up my end of the bargain though and sold the Street Glide (it only took 13 months for someone to buy it 2funny)

Wife said I can buy another bike if I sell 1 of the 2, one being a 2008 250cc scooter,  guess which one I will sell???   uglystupid2

ONLY way I am selling my 2001 black Valk I/S is if I get a 01-06 newer used Goldwing.  I have to have the top trunk and side bags needing storage room, plus a top luggage rack with cloth bag on top of the trunk to store lighter stuff inside.

If I sell my 2008 250cc scooter,  I might be looking at a used 600cc honda silverwing scooter or 650cc suzuki burgmann scoot or a used Honda CTX700 since that bike gets I heard VERY good mpg and not much higher in price than a used silvering or burgmann scoot.

BOTH slight upgrades..  cooldude

The wife once told me I have too many motorcycles (three at the time). I immediately went out and added two more to the stable. She hasn't mentioned the subject since, but then, I don't mention her shoe collection either.

I own a '97 tourer, '99 IS, and a '67 Norton Commando 850. I sold a '39 knuckle head a few years ago because it wasn't getting any attention and the Norton may be headed the same way as I make the IS my own. I was in a bidding war for a '86 GW1200 last month before I decided to not pay more than the silly thing was originally priced at and I could use the money for a new Ultimate seat on the IS (or a new long gun, damn I hate having to make hard decisions). Guns and motorcycles, you just can't have enough of either.

Yah, I will see if that shoe collection or clothes collection works for me?   coolsmiley

My girl is not into riding, maybe one day. But I've bought 2 bikes in the 3.5yrs we've been together. She's not exactly thrilled that I ride but she realizes the enjoyment and the stress relief I get from riding is good for me. Plus she is an OCD clean freak and when she is in cleaning mode and starts her "chores" I can get out of her hair(which she really likes when she is on a cleaning streak) and ride most of the day away.

I didn't ask her if I could buy the bikes either.

Right now I have 3, but I did have 5 when I met her.  Cheesy

You know one thing here we are talking about new members recently.

Well

Nothing says welcome to a new member like getting in their face about their personal relationships instead of concentrating on the question asked.

If he likes it here in the zoo then there will be plenty of time to comment later on his choice of phraseology or relationship.

That's a good point, Robert (although I see no new members involved in this thread).

I wonder how it impacts a new person who reads though the board and sees that someone consistently posts derogatory and demeaning comments and stories about someone they voted for and admire.

It's food for thought.  Slip into the boots yourself before you offer them as a need to a friend.    Smiley

One mans ceiling is another's floor, I would say rather than derogatory it would be reminding all of the record of service and accomplishments he has achieved. Wink I did not make the record and when you say derogatory that would be making a value judgement on his service. Obviously some are extremely happy with this record since we did not hear a negative word from them, and in fact they hold up rigorously the excellent job he has done. So it could be said I was praising him.

I saw the 183 posts and thought he was a new member, didn't realize it was since 09, Maybe hes afraid to post more since he might get a whooping. What was that about filter  Grin  Grin

That's a bit off bullshit and rationalization, my friend.  Derogatory is not necessarily limited to untrue.  Reminding people of negative things about someone is running him down even if you think it is correct.  That approach changes exactly no one's mind and it does drive away those who disagree.

Filter.  I must confess that it has been fully restored although selectively applied.   Wink

You continue to intentionally miss the point and apparently don't give a crap whether it offends or chases people away.  You are like a man sanding alone in what used to be a crowd screaming out to no one, "I'm right.  I'm right.  Don't you see I was right?"

If you truly do wish to influence people, for whatever reason, being disrespectful and offensive will only diminish the number of persons who might have been available for you to influence to the good.

On a positive note...I have a 97 STD and while out doing a furnace-A/C install on a hot August Saturday morning I get a text message from my wife(at a Yard Sale) with a picture of a Georgeous 2001 wing with a Bushtec trailer. She asked me what I thought of it....(I was thinking..."This is just a test , only a test...procede with caution") I said "What do YOU think"..She said it looked like a great deal. I said what is he asking for it , she said $6000.00 .....I said "What do you think" ? Again she said I think it's a great deal. I said offer him $5000.00...Almost immediately she said $5500.00 is the lowest he would go. I said (almost before she finished) I'll be right up with the cash. I now encourage my wife to go to all the yard sales she can....Oh , and she loves the Wing and the Valk both .

I said offer him $5000.00...Almost immediately she said $5500.00 is the lowest he would go. I said (almost before she finished) I'll be right up with the cash. I now encourage my wife to go to all the yard sales she can....Oh , and she loves the Wing and the Valk both .
I remember that story  cooldude Thanks for pulling the thread back on track.

I have to avoid contributing to this conversation.  The Rules of the Road prohibit my honest reply to anything that begins with, "Wife says I can ..."    Sad

Could not agree more .
