A quick survey concerning what is your 'second' bike? (in the sense that you ride it the most, assuming that the first bike is a Valkyrie).

Going to lighter bikes as I get older.  I have a  BMW K1200R  for  day rides with my friends. If going for a trip I take the interstate.  The electric bikes sure have my interest but I have resisted the urge to test drive one because I know how that usually ends    Grin Grin

Like someone else said, depends on what I'm doing. Around here I take my Harley  Springer Softail. If I'm going on a trip I might take my Harley Ultra Classic.  If I'm going real far it's the Valk.

If the Valk is supposed to be the first bike always, then my Second and third bikes are Harleys. Yup, I like Harleys!

My other bike is a Kawasaki ZRX1200r. The valk has turned me into a torque junky. The zrex has almost
80 ft.lbs below 8k rpm and is a total hoot to plonk around on back roads.

My other bike is a 2013 Triumph Scrambler.  To me, it is the polar opposite of the Valk, and that's the main thing I like about it.
Around these parts, you never know when a back road will turn to gravel, and the Scrambler is very happy on rough roads and dirt.  It's not an off-roader by any means, but is capable of mild off roading.  It doesn't have a lot of power, but it's a fun bike as a second machine.  If I was 150 pounds lighter, it might make a good bike for trips....

2004 ST1300 is parked next to my Valk. It's TECHNICALLY the spousal unit's, but since she's given up riding to put more resources into skydiving, it's my second bike now.

Considering selling it to get a 2nd Valkyrie though (Interstate this time) just haven't gotten the gumption to do it instead of think about it yet...

Ya my main bike is a 2014 Valkyrie, I got after selling the VTX 1300, and a 1998 Valk std. Then after about a year and loving the 1832, went on the hunt and found an original 1975 GL1000. Back in 1975 I was working at a bike shop in Colorado when the Gold Wing can out. At the time I was ridin a Honda 750, and the Gold Wing looked great. Now 43 years later and 4 other bikes, I have a fantastic 1832 Valkyrie, and one of the 1975 RED GL1000s. Im super happy and will never have to get another bike.

The two Big Girls are number one and two, the '68 Norton third. Last year I may have put as many miles on the Norton as the IS, but that was because the IS was in four corners of the shop most of the year.

At roughly $200 per month per bike for plates here...the insurance company has basically killed the idea of a second bike...and motorcycling in general.

Yep. $2100/yr for a 98 Valk($700 deductible). Add another $150 per year to lower that to $200.

You want a 1000cc sport bike for some fun...that’ll be $3600/yr.

Wait, is that registration (Government theft) or insurance? Or combined?

I pay about $80 a year in theft for the registration, another $400 I think for insurance (Full coverage on the Valk and the ST1300 combined)

Our registration(plates) and insurance are the same here. And you’ll love this Serk...our insurance company is government owned. They say they’re still losing money on motorcycle insurance at these rates...which I find hard to believe since private insurers everywhere else offer insurance at a fraction of the price...and private companies aren’t in the business of doing things that lose them money.

Not sure about SK Jason, but we do have private options here in BC. Basic registration has to go through BC gov. ICBC, but the rest can be purchased privately. My current rate combined with the two is about 1400.00 per year, with 300 deductible and very good full coverage including underinsured motorists protection, riding gear and accessories, North American tow, out of pocket expense coverage, etc. .... still ridiculous as far as  I'm concerned, especially since it can only apply to one bike. Thankfully, I have no desire for another....if I had two or three in the garage I would swing my leg over the Valk every time. Well,  maybe if the 2nd and 3rd were Valks as well... Smiley
Problem with government owned or controlled bike/auto insurance is that the lawyers , repair shops, and the clients themselves are all in on the scam together...since its taxpayer money, they see an unlimited source to tap. Many government insurance adjusters are ex lawyers or have past connections with the firms, so the insurance law profession has an inside connection to get the most for their clients ( and themselves at 35% or so). "Pain and suffering" claims and payouts are also out of control. There is no accountability in the system. Too bad honesty is not seen as a virtue these days....
Back in the early days of government owned insurance, it was actually the other way around....we got better coverage at far cheaper rates than the private insurers were offering at the time . When I met the Mrs. I had an HD, 69 Firebird, GMC 4x4, and a Honda 250XL all insured at the same time on ICBC....she thought I was nuts.
The ONE good thing is that in another 3 years, my Valk will be a "collector".... full coverage except riding to or for work purposes will be about $25 per month....aren't you glad you decided to sell and buy that new Wing?  Grin

You’re 100% correct msb. The auto body shops are all in on it. Many won’t even give you a quote for non-insurance claim jobs...they make so much $$ on claims. Another good example...the plain old office chairs at my government-run corporation are $1500...you can buy the nicest gonad-massaging heated leather chair for much less.

Why allow private companies compete to insure when government can do it at 5x the price  Grin

And yeah, I’d have loved to keep the Valk. If I lived anywhere else, I probably would have.  At least with the new wing, I’m gettin insurance worth using if necessary...and not paying for the total value of the bike every couple years.

Second bike a 98 1500 'Wing, with Hannigan Astro 2+2 sidecar. Enjoy riding both. If the wife wants to go, it is the sidecar rig, Valkyrie is set up as a solo.

Yeah. Sold the Valk in October. Didn’t think it would sell in the fall, it sold on the first day.

I have a deposit on an 18 Wing, it’s supposed to be here mid March. Was going to get a ‘2012ish but they hold their value so well, it didn’t seem worth it to spend $20K on a 5 year old bike when I could spend $30K on a new one  Grin. The new front end design made the decision easier.  Getting a matte grey/black engine/exhaust model, adding the rear top box, centre stand, taller windshield.

I haven’t mentioned it here because I wasn’t sure if you guys would let me still hang out here anymore. Thanks for outing me msb.  Grin

No man it will all be good, but a few will say "no way I'd spend that much, my old Valkyrie is still the best thing since sliced bread and smooth peanut butter." I mean I love my Valkyrie but it is a dinosaur compared to the KTM, a cool dinosaur, but still a dinosaur.

My third ride is the toilet.  It never goes anywhere, but it has tremendous sitting and idling time.

No taxes, insurance or plate costs, but the damn thing still has to be worked on from time to time (especially because I proudly maintain outlaw vintage 3-gallon ones).

Putzing around 15 miles one way is scooter time hop on and go while pretty much all else the Valks.

variety is the spice of life right??

was going to get that HONDA PARKING ONLY sign hung up in my garage but that Kymco throws a monkey wrench in that one... Roll Eyes
