Has anybody ever put a Goldwing 1800CC motor in a 1997-2003 Valk?  Is it a lot of work?  Will it even fit?  With carbs or fuel injected?  So many questions, . . . .!

I don't recall the name, but a guy over on the Tech Board has been working on that for some time. It's not even close to a bolt-in change....the name Pago sticks in my mind so do a search over there. He has a rather long series of posts and pictures, but unless you're a competent welder and machinist, you'll see it's not something you want to take on.

Now, looking at it from another angle of approach, there have been some successful transformations of using an 1800 Wing and stripping it down and making a more modern 1800 Valkyrie. Lowering it, getting rid of the plastic and redesigning various covers, changing the rider's setup...a fair amount of work but much easier. And I'm told it really screams and handling is as good or better than the current 1800 Valkyrie and with all the little extras you get with a Wing.

Like John said it isn't just an engine change.  Swing arm and differential, rear single sided wheel etc.

If the answer is because I want FI then, how many times could you rebuild carbs over what this project takes. Besides the carbs are great if they are ran.  Pego, you have my respect with your knowledge and time to be able to do this work. When this 92,000 SF Van Wezel building is done with me, all I want to do is ride. Ok, I like to fabricate a little.

Yes just ride  :cooldude: Not interested in doing anything else. Got lot's of places to see and a limited time on this spiraling ball.

Thanks for the response guys.  I was just thinking about having 300cc more, CA.     But, I can see that it would be quite of bit of work.  And I would want to use carbs.  Overhauling the carbs is something I can do.  Done it twice so far on two Valks.

port the heads esp the exhaust side. for the PAIR valve system the exhaust actually has scoops into the exhaust flow to divert it into the PAIR valves. just cleaning that up is an easy 15.6 cfm increase. intake just needs mild clean up for 13.4 cfm increase. this is per the flow bench the engine shop uses. doesn't need a lot for the stock lift cams. also install the OEM R1 cams. webcams have a little more lift. the heads can be ported for that.  webcams is basically most lift that can be used with the existing deck height.

Everyone knows what you meant.  It's what you wrote that's funny.

Instead of advising someone to do Bob, advise them to have Bob do your bike

There'll be a happier result that way (especially for Bob).   ;D
