Back in the mid '90's we spent three vacations out there with two other couples on our Wings. One couple had a "cabin"(some cabin, over 2000sq. ft.) in the Angel Fire ski resort area at about the 9800' level and we'd spend most of two weeks taking day trips from there, using the cabin as a jumping off place. The second week we always would take a 3-4 day ride up into Colorado, plenty of good riding there as well. Going west out of Taos toward Chama, you'll cross some pretty good peaks, and we always ran into some free range cattle near the top. There's quite a large canyon about 7 miles west of Taos, almost like a miniature Grand Canyon. Someone once joked that the way it was created was a local resident dropped a penny down a prarie dog hole and some politician went looking for it. There's plenty to see and do within a days ride out and back, Santa Fe is only 70 miles south and used to have a "farmer's market" type set up for the local native Americans to sell their wares, might still exist. We bought some matching leather jackets and I picked up a handmade SS ring for just a couple bucks. Scenery galore, especially backroads, going east on 64 you can take what's known as the Enchanted Circle ride, stop and see the Viet Nam memorial just up the road from Angel Fire resort. One of the little towns on that ride is kinda unique, you can still see bullet holes in the ceiling from the old wild west drunks getting crazy. Look up the Enchanted Circle, it's a neat ride. Lots of memories for me, hope I can make it, time will tell.  It's nearly 1800 miles one way.

Before we started holding back hotel info, people would reserve rooms just in case they decide to go... or for their friends that might go.  This resulted in a bunch of cancellations at the last minute, that left us not meeting our commitment for room nights.  It also caused people who really did go, to have to stay off site, because the hotel was "sold out."  We've tried to rectify these issues by having people register before they can book a room.

Not really. Unless you ride around the whole monument. The parking lot is in the New Mexico side and you got to walk to the "4 corners". The parking lot is not really CT friendly.

I say its a lot longer then that. Your dealing with a lot of curves from Taos to Farmington NM. From there its straight roads thru the Rez. Its a lot of 30 mph for hours. I don't think it can be done in a day. Sun sets early in the mountains, then there is deer, elk, etc. Its an hour or so from Farmington to the 4 corners. Maybe 5-6 hrs to Taos. We just went thru there less then a month ago so it is still fresh in my head. We stayed in Farmington and then in Cimarron which is 30+ miles east of Taos.

The National Geodetic Survey has determined that the monument is 1807 feet east of where the actual intersections on all four states occur by way of modern scientific surveying methodology.
So, in reality, all of your prancing around that concrete marker is inaccurate and incorrect.  The four states arbitrarily accepted the location because they are too cheap to move the marker or build another one.   Tape measure anyone?

The concrete structure is located in it's correct place for the phony baloney tourist trap where people can straddle what they think is an intersection of all four states.  The actual, physical, and geodesic exact point of intersection is 1807 feet away to the west from that phony baloney metal disk.  It was laser sighted from satellites and referenced on the ground by the NGS; even compensating for the curvature of the earth (if you believe that the earth is not flat).

Plymouth Rock is not actually where the Pilgrims landed either. ???

So, why waste your time riding from Taos to there when there are so many more beautiful places to see in New Mexico and Colorado?  If you were to visit Mesa Verde National Park near Cortez, CO you will see that there was a sophisticated civilization long before the white man ever set foot there.  A short tour of the easily accessible Spruce Tree House is well worth the time.

Yep.  Four Corners is really stupid.  A made-up attraction, like the Two Headed Pig or World's Biggest Ball of Twine in Kansas.  Besides you'll get arrested if you try to have sex on the marker.

From what I've read, the intersection of CO/AZ/UT/NM was originally decreed to be where the 37th parallel crossed the 109th meridian.  A survey was performed in the 1800s that missed the location by about 1800 feet.  Actually that was very good considering the technology that was available back then.

I believe the 4 states have accepted the old survey boundaries as their legal borders, even though they aren't precisely at 37N 109W.  Apparently this is common.  When land is surveyed, corner markers are often not placed in precisely accurate locations, but the owners accept them as the legal boundaries.

This stuff is more fluid than I thought.  I recently learned that magnetic north moves around so much that airport runways at northern latitudes are often renumbered.

I don't wanna speak for staff, but maybe see if they'd put your stuff on the general merchandise table and handle sales for you some of the time?

As the number of vendors we have gets lower as our bikes get older we might have to get creative about such things.
