I'm surprised that Ukraine ignored Trump's request to stop hitting Russian refineries. I realize it's helping Ukraine, but the world is paying a price.

I believe that is exactly what Ukraine wants, for others, especially Europe, to feel the pain.

I've seen reports where some European countries are starting to sit up and take notice, as they should.

Russia has vast resources and can wage serious war with just about anyone, assuming Putin can weather the opposition forces and crush the dissenters.

While I agree with you to some extent, I also think that said internal opposition is slowly beginning to build. The Russian Armed Forces have taken a beating from Ukraine - in some cases it was a total surprise (sinking of a cruiser, for example). The Russian economy is in no shape to replace some losses (nuclear bombers, as an example).

I understand why Ukraine wants to keep hitting the refineries as hard as they can. But since we provide so many weapons I was surprised they ignored his request.

They aren't the only ones disagreeing with his plans to get diesel prices down. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said banning diesel exports from the US was a bad idea. And he is correct, because a ban would force gulf coast refineries to reduce output, which would cut the supply of both diesel and gasoline. It might drop regional diesel prices a bit, but would increase gasoline prices at the same time. And it would hurt the friendly nations in Europe and Latin America who get their diesel from us.

I agree Russia is not running to replace the bombers, but warfare has changed and maybe bombers are not as important to them as new platforms are.

Being a communist government, the economic downturns may be considered a speed bump and government agencies will just take and force manufacturing.

The rest of the world sees that Ukraine is causing damage to Russia, but it has huge resources and area and could, as in WW2, just absorb damage and come back with much much more than Ukraine can handle.

Zelenskyy understands this and is desperately trying to pull others in, as he should, to hold on to the fight against the much, much larger adversary, the Bear.

In the war of attrition, Russia wins, hands down.

So in respect to the OP, by Ukraines action of curtailing Russian diesel production, causing a reduction in global market availability, it's causing higher prices for all.

It's not gasoline, but diesel, which effects everyone, even those w/o a vehicle.

Last month Trump asked Ukraine to stop hitting Russian refineries. I was surprised that Ukraine ignored the request. I was even more surprised that Trump appeared to drop the issue.

But Trump doesn't forget. His agreement to buy Russian diesel was aimed at Ukraine. Zelneskyy is already complaining about it, and it should make him think twice in the future.

I doubt it will make a dent in prices, as 300,000 tons is only about 2 million barrels. That's around half of one day's diesel consumption in the US, and the release won't all be coming here. I'm not sure where Russia will find this spare diesel, as they're already rationing the fuel in some regions.
