You have hopefully had a bunch of what I call "rocking chair moments". Moments made by a combination of being in the right place with the right folks at a time when everyone was hitting on all six cylinders.

You might not even realize you are showing as you relive the memory of such a moment in living color until you are caught with a big ole grin on your kisser by someone close to you. There will be some such experiences you wouldn't even try to share at the risk of cheapening the moment. There will be other memories that you will have shared so many times with your buds that they stop you before they have to endure the telling for the umpteenth time.

For many of you, this note already falls into the latter of the above categories. Those of you that have shared in the Celebration of Life at a Ride For Kids know where this is going. You have the experience etched into your brain pan. You surely laughed and probably worked at holding back a tear as the kids, our Stars, share a little of the hand they have been dealt. Whether this in your first Ride For Kids or you are an old hand please realize that you are the most important link these kids have to a healthy future. Twenty five years of motorcyclist stepping up and putting their money on that registration table has a rolling momentum I invite you to share - a week from tomorrow, Sunday October 5th in Grapevine, Texas. Register to ride at the event from 8-9:45. KSU at 10am sharp.

Out of towners couldn't have a better reason to ride. The weather is going to be perfect. Accommodations at the host hotel
are discounted about seventy bucks a night. If you would like to help with the ride, we have a Volunteer Training Thursday evening at 8pm, or even better for you visitors is the Saturday training at 2pm. And, because the DFW Valk club was the top fundraising club last year, you are more than welcome to ride up front with the Stars. Yes, you may volunteer and do the ride too. Create your own rocking chair moment and ride out a few lumps in your throat. We will have more than motorcycling in common. The kids will thank you in person. ~Jeff

The Thursday evening training time is 8pm at Joe's Crab Shack, Grapevine. It will be in the large room, not the "garage".

I will try and be there Thursday but I may not be riding the Valk because a small pickup truck clipped me last night.  I was leading a dinner ride heading north on McMakin Road to Chili's and a pickup truck heading south on McMakin Road crossed the yellow line and came into my lane.  He did not drift into my lane he just drove straight into me.  I could not believe that I was looking at his grill and headlights.  His mirror caught my leftside fairing, windshield, and mirror and made my mirror exploded in my face and I have a small hole in my fairing.  The mirror on the pickup was almost ripped off the side and I think it flew up and shattered his driver side window.  If my hand is feeling better I will try and check my bike out.

Sorry to hear about it Baron. The bike can be fixed. It seems it is harded to put us humans back together sometimes. Glad you made it out OK and you don't have to cross that bridge.

Yep, I got a note from Jerry today requesting you as a ten key operator again this year. It will break his heart, I'm sure!

I can picture that first year photo with you and Ricky and some others around his Valk with the trailer. I guess it has to be on an old hard drive. ~Jeff

I do feel real lucky that night.  My hand is sore in the mornings but gets better during the day.  I saw the eye doc yesterday morning and he said they got all the glass out of my eye in the ER and the cuts on the surface of my eye will heal over time.  Right now my eyes are a little bloodshot but I can see fine.  I spoke to the Bartonville Police Officer and he was suprised I did not go down after the impact.  I was told that the pickup truck driver was cited and that he does have insurance.  Somebody was watching over me that night, I know it!
