I never had the pleasure of meeting Paul, but I can tell by the look in his eye that I woulda liked him. For all you guys that did know him, i am so sorry for your loss. My concolences to his family. We'll all ride together again, someday.

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

This photo Britman posted turned out to be Paul's last ride:

Brasstown Bald, Saturday, 7/7/12

I missed that ride (bicycle crash on 7/6) but a few of Paul's friends that hadn't ridden with us in a while showed up, including Britman, Marian and Jack and Anita Hunt. Jack and Anita pulled the trailer with a lunch cookout for everyone.  :) Using Royal Oak Charcoal of course.

The week after that he said his ridding days were over. That was hard for him.  :( Hard for me too.
He realized he didn't have energy for more than 15 - 20 minutes at a time.

One of my favorite pics of a younger Paul:

Are there any details yet on the memorial service, where we can send flowers or make donations to a favorite charity of Thumper?

Duffy is the man to answer this.

:'( :'( :'( Although I never met Paul, I feel as I have known him for a long time in reading his postings and the respect the vrcc family show that he was indeed a wonderful man that I would like to have met.  Rest in peace my brother.

I talked to Duffy a few minutes ago.......he said he'd post some details when he knows more....Paul's Brother had a motorcycle accident a couples of weeks ago and has to recuperate himself before a wake takes place......he also told me that Paul wanted his ashes spread on a ride to  Blood Mtn and the Dragon.....to maybe take place the weekend after Labor Day??......

That is right Stanley.  :cooldude:

I just talked to Greg, Paul's brother about maybe an informal wake to celebrate Paul's life and get drunk.  ;D

Greg is close to being mobile, so it may take place sooner than I thought.

As far as the ride, we need a good name, Joe? All I've got is Thumper's Final Ride.

Pending confirmation of family, I think it will be Saturday September 8th leave north Atlanta somewhere about 8 am, head to Blood Mountain (aka "Paul Mountain") stop there for some words and spreading of the ashes, then on to Deal's Gap and the Dragon. Probably get there around 1 pm, maybe eat at Deal's Gap then across the Tail of the Dragon to the Overlook near the north end and more words and ashes.

I think that is what Paul wanted, so we'll do it that way.  8)

Popcorn called me about Paul wanting to ride out west and maybe put a relay together to help Paul with that bucket list item. I'm not against it and of course we would want to clear it with the family, but I do not remember Paul wanting to head west. How about y'all - did Paul want to do that?

Paul would not want anyone to cry over his passing.

He would only ask, remember him each time you gather.

Carry his ashes to the places he loved to be and so forever more, they are part of him.

In your heart he is.

Forever to be.

I feel him close as I try to see.

Yea well Big Al we are well past that point.  Wish I lived closer.  Danged gnats in here.
Y'all ride safe.

I can take care of the getting drunk on behalf of you and Steamer.

As to the rest. Once Greg is ready. There's no need to rush anything.

He is and will always be part of us.

Lives on in the rides we take and every time we push it in a curve.

He loved draggin pegs, and all you fellows that were not scared to live it up.
