Saw 4 bikes at different times today and all 4 rides were in shorts, t-shirts and 3 in tennis shoes and one in flip flops.  :(

I'll add one more to that.
This w/e, driving in the truck, we pulled behind a chubby guy on a "long forked bike" (some may call it a chopper but not me as the design started out this way, not chopped, but that is another topic) he was wearing shorts, flip-flops, and no helmet.  He kept looking down at his tank, slowing down, speeding up, and veering all over his lane. As we pulled up next to him we saw why he was driving so irratic,  HE WAS TEXTING!!! On his I-phone he was holding between his legs!!

Observing how he was driving it's obvious this was one jerk that could not do more than one thing at a time.
Remember, if you are on a bike and wreck with a car no matter how "in the right" you are you are going to lose. RIDE LIKE EVERBODY IS OUT TO GET YOU!!

Every time I get next to a motorcycle while wearing shorts I get another big burn on my leg from the hot pipes . Took me a few good burns as a young man to realize " don't wear shorts on or around a motorcycle ".

Patrick

NOPE !! And I cringe every time I see someone do it.. I guess thats why I tend to spend more time in the old roadster when just puttering around town,, I like shorts and flops..

bigguy

I don't so shorts, period. Just don't like em, so shorts on the bike are a complete non-question for me.
I do ride in t-crap or sleeveless shirt in the summer. Even then, boots, brain bucket and gloves.
Here there be Dragons.

R J

I ride w/shorts and no/or sleeveless 'T' Shirt.

BUT, it is on the Chevy Trike only.

When I was rding MGM alot, I never wore only shorts and a 'T' shirt.

My momma, didn't raise no idiot(s).

No, this is not me, it is Highbinder at one of Doc's Covered Bridge Rides.

. . .......No. ...I wear jeans and heavy boots...preferably "cowboys". ...and I NEVER drink and ride...not even a "sip"..  8)
. . . ...I saw a werewolf at Trader Vics. . . ...his hair was perfect...

Helmet at all times. I only wear shorts inside the house so they dont go for a ride, ever.
There is a road here, not far from the house that is virtually unused at night.
Its nicely paved and the wife and I do, on occasion, go for ride.
BUT,,,we have on shoes, gloves and the helmets,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and a smile.
Aot of guys with burn marks, gnarly scars and funny twitches ask why I spend so much on safety gear

Shorts. Tshirt. Helmet. Boots (sometimes) vest, and gloves. Admittedly I am one of those guys who wakes up in shorts and a Tshirt. Rides in shorts and a Tshirt, and Goes back to bed in the same shorts and Tshirt. I have the nasty pipe burn scars to prove it.

On work days I wear scrubs when riding to/from work.

The summers in Oklahoma are just TOO HOT for me to wear long pants when riding (or doing anything for that matter)
I think it hit 115 here a month ago. Currently 106....been this way since May.

Let those who ride decide.

reminds me of the lady with her 5 yr old boy driving the car down the street with next to them a topless lady pulls up in a convertible.    The little boy says "MAMA....MAMA....did you see that lady?"     The mother was embarrased and said "WHAT SON?"     He said "Mama....that lady wasn't wearing a seat belt!!"

alph

yep.  don't care what others think either.  it's my leg, my arm, and as for now, you won't have to pay for my health insurance, but in a few more years you will  ;D ;D

you've got to remember, sometimes you can over protect yourself, being afraid of getting everything and anything, then you die from a bee sting!!  you never know what'll get you in the end.....

[The thing that scares me about shorts isn't road rash. It's that on a motorcycle, shorts turn into "bee funnels". That scares me.

Certain words should never be spoken in the same sentence. Bees and nads are two of those words.

Haw, Yes I don't ever wear shorts because of this!  It is such a surprise isn't it? Feels like a red hot needle from nowhere.......I actually thought a hot piece of metal came off the motor and up my pants leg.

In the summer I wear a poly T shirt and shorts under my 'Stitch and unzip when stopped and off the bike.  When underway the 'Stitch fills with air and is very cool.

Nope never have....

It was so damn hot one day in Eureka Springs that I made the conscious decision to ride sans long pants and boots that day (and maybe, I forgot my helmet); it happens.

I did burn my stink'in ankle on the exhaust that day.... go figure.

I compare it to my off-duty security details that are all day in 100° weather... I don't wear my bullet-proof vest. When people ask me about it, I tell them.... "in this heat, I'd rather be shot."

We all make choices with the circumstances presented to us  :-\

Used to occaisionally, when I had a narrower V twin engine, but there's too much hot metal that sticks out on the Valk!

Do what I tell the misses:  Spread your legs out a little farther.  After that, I don't have any problems.  :coolsmiley:

The engine does get pretty hot on bare legs in town traffic when 90 out and hotter, but 90% of my riding even in town is spent with my feet in front spread out on the hwy. pegs thus avoiding 90% of the engine heat on my legs while riding with shorts.  The only time my feet are on the floorboards usually is when I have to shift and stop in traffic.  I also have the cobra floorboards which spread my legs out a tad wider than stock pegs thus keeping my feet at stop signs out a few inches further to avoid burning my legs on the exhaust.  Never had an issue in 4 years of riding my I/S burning my legs while riding with shorts 80% of the time.

I mow a yard for a lady a few miles away.  It gives me an excuse to hop on the bike every week when all my other schedule won't allow.  I wear shorts and a t-shirt, but chaps.  It's not so much about the fall protection, but keeps me from burning my leg again like I did on my first bike.  I sweat like a pig, but I'm mostly dry when I get home, even with the furnace-like air blowing past me.

Nope, never have, never will.  I've seen and experienced what the road can do to your body  :crazy2:

I've noticed a lot of you say "only to run errands" but I found that running to the hardware store could end up in a ride across the state.
I always wear boots, jeans, helmet, and wrap around glasses. I wear a jacket till the vents don't help anymore.  A T-shirt flapping against my chest makes it go numb.
Wearing gloves help on a long ride too.
I know it's about safety but these things help with comfort on a long ride too.
