I lay pipe for a living  in the oilfield. I am a Sales & Service Representative , sometimes I work 1 hour or 20 a day. Been doing this for 11.5 years and I was an automotive technician before that. Lots of traveling, I've been to Mexico, Venezuela, Columbia, Bolivia, Austrailia, and all over the US.

Maintenance mechanic at Folsom state prison in Repressa CA. (the same folsom prison that Johny cash sings about). I really love working there.
Really? I am friends with the up till recently chief head nurse there and I'm also vague aquaintence of the warden via my buddy.. My buddy the Nurse "KID" now over see's the entire CA. state prison systems nursing/health care budget. He has already cut well over 12Million out of the prisons systems budget, so he says. Small world sort of.

Machinist, At Manufacturer called "Sunnen" we specialize in honing machines . My job is in the "specials" department, one off parts  with a quick turn around time. Our hones are used in everything from automotive fuel injectors, to 45 foot long pipes and everywhere in between. Most machine shops have or have had one of our hones in them. Heres a little history for you.

I begin every morning in Bars and end up smelling like a distillery.........

I have a business that audits Beer, Wine and Liquor for bar and restaurant owners........ Also do consulting for them also....... Set up, purchasing, menus, etc....

So I pick up my first beer at around 4 AM........ when most of you guys are just puttin' em down.... ;)

Not to interrupt, I always enjoy these threads.... but so far, I am most intrigued with the position of being a cook in a college Sorority House....... with beer auditing being a distant 2d.    :2funny: I am uninterested in the pay, but the fringe benefits would seem very interesting indeed.

I freeze aircraft.

Enironmental testing for the DOD.  Weapons systems, aircraft, hovercraft, missile systems, tents and shelters, vehicles....pretty much anything and everything in the DOD's inventory.

Also, icing certifications for the FAA.....engine icing ingestion or the entire aircraft icing certification.

We raise the aircraft on jacks, tie it down and then the test team can test/raise and lower landing gear as well as run engines to take off power and full after burner.......all inside a closed building/chamber.

We advertise that we test anything from -65*F to +165*F......although we've tested items to -70*F and up to +170*F.  We can go as cold as -100*F and as hot as +200*F if a customer really wants us to.

We don't just test DOD.....we also test for civilian customers.  We've had Ford, Chrysler, Boeing, Bombardier, GE, Pratt & Whitney, Goodyear, etc and many more......anybody that wants to write us a check.  :)

But mostly I sit on my ass with my feet up on the desk alot.   ;D

8 hours a day I wish.   Airplane stuff as long as I can remember.  I've had several jobs with several companies all without changing employment.  Such is life with the airlines with mergers and acquisitions.  Whole career in the Maintenance and Engineering division - maintenance director, chief inspector, director QA, director reliability and maintenance programs, principle engineer 767/A330, fleet manager 757/767/A330, manager extended range operations, and currently maintenance programs development.  I think they keep me around because I'm the only one left that remembers why we set stuff up the way we did.

Hope to retire in 2 yrs at age 59, Lord willing.

We just had Caterpillar at our facility for testing.  They brought three pretty big machines with them.  Both cold and hot testing.

BF, your job-and your facility seems very interesting . I watched the video and it was impressive. I didn't even know Cat did that kind of hot/cold testing on their vehicles. Now I'm curious what it was they sent; probably large off highway trucks or the biggest Wheel Loader, the 994.

Don't know what they where exactly, but they all had tracks and had arms like for a backhoe or whatever.  Two of them were pretty large and one was smaller.  Don't really know what their objective was, but they sure changed out alot of batteries while they were here.
