Stock exhaust with Cobra sound ?

Does anyone know how to make my stock exhaust system sound like a set of Cobra's ??

Take your stock exhaust off and take them to a muffler shop and have them weld on a set of car glasspacks.  They sound great and are not as loud as the Cobra's (and cheaper too).

Does'nt sound as good as Cobra's but if you want loud you got it ....Cost is $0 but you will trash out the exhaust if you don't like it. Do a search I think BF in Florida posted a video after the cut was made.

 Just trade your unmolested stock exhaust to me for a set of Cobras that are on the shelf in my shop and your bike will sound exactly like you have Cobras on it.

There are things you can do to your stock exhaust that won't cost you anything but time.  The first thing is to cut the piggies off and see how you like that.  It won't really be any louder, but it will have a deeper tone.  

If you want to go further, you can drill out the rear baffles.

If after cutting the pigs and drilling the rear baffles you still want more, there's a procedure called the Ragnar Cut.  Basically, it's gutting the rear baffle section.

However, and to be fair, you should be warned.  

I can't emphasize this strongly enough, beginning with cutting the piggies, your pipes will drone.  I stongly suggest you search the threads for drone.  It doesn't seem to effect some people, but it does effect most.  

Mother Honda put those piggies on there for a reason.....to get the exhaust note out to the back of the exhaust pipe.  Without the piggies, the exhaust exists the exhaust can and resonates in the pipe/exhaust tips untill it exists out the back of the tips.  That resonance can and will play hell with your hearing.  If you have tinnitus to any degree like I do, the drone can be simply unbearable. 

I loved how the Valk sounded with the Ragnar Cut....seriously mean sounding (deeper sounding than Cobras IMHO), but the drone drove me nuts.  I learned my leason.....the hard way.  However, if you do decide to modify your stock pipes and you find the drone is more than you can handle, there is a cure.  I suggest you read this thread BEFORE you start to modify your stock pipes........

This is my bike today with the drone cure (the sound now is very comparable to the sound of the pigges cut and the rear baffles drilled....but NO drone).....



However, as others have said, if you want your bike to sound like it has a set of Cobra's on it, then just install a set of Crobra's on it and be done.  You'll still have a set of unmolested stock pipes that you can save or $ell.

I know that a really good set of stock exhaust is hard to find, and I do have some reservations about cutting on them. But now that have the 4" slash cut truck stacks on I like the looks of the stock system much better than the Cobra's. I had a set of Cobra's on her a couple years ago and I miss (what I call that small block Chevy) sound. Does anyone have any info on the glass pack mod? And if that is done can you still use the truck stacks?

Fixed it for you Denny! Im just North of New Orleans LA. I dont know if I'm gonna part with the Cobras just yet  though.

Send O-B-1 a pm, he has stock pipes with the innards removed and an aftermarket silencer that bolts into the rear of the pipes. Sounds a lot like the cobras.

I did the Ragnar cut on stock pipes (I should have went with the method of cutting the rear baffles as outlined by MarkT rather than the "hole-saw" method). Mark said to cut the muffler something like 7-3/8" inches I think, check by searching for a post "drone is gone".

I ordered 36" Dynaflow exhaust stacks and mounted them as per the directions on their website.

I also inserted the 4" exhaust silencers, listed as Rex Marine, but had to get them from another source. Rex Marine said they would not have them in stock until the boats hit the water. Those inserted so back end was 1" inside the stacks. http://www.cpperformance.com/p-12622-4-slip-in-silencer.aspx

I like the sound I now have, but if did it all again, would follow MarkT's suggestion for cutting the back baffles off, remove the sheet metal dividers in front of them, and go with the 40" Dynaflow stacks for even deeper note. http://store.airflo.com/af40-440hs.html
