Pull the line off the petcock and turn it on with a piece of tubing connected to it,, see if fuel flow is adequate,, I don't know what else to tell you bradb,, from what you have described and posted,, I think you have a carburetor problem,, high speed circuit not functioning in one or more carbs,, someone who knows what they are looking at needs to go through them again is my conclusion.
The most expensive things you will purchase, are those things you would not have needed if you had listened and obeyed.

Bradb

Just thinking out loud I could possibly get a video of the bike on a short ride where you guys could hear and see what she's doin but I would more than likely have to email it.

Bradb

Yeah pancho I think your right. I sure do appreciate you and all the others spending this much time with me on this topic.

pancho

No one minds spending time trying to help someone walk through their problem, it take co operation on both sides.

If my bike was acting like yours, I would be looking to find why my high speed circuit was not working in some of my carbs,,, what was messed up when they were apart,,, I would start by looking for vacuum leaks to the vacuum pistons,, maybe cuts in the diaphragm....  That is where I would start, and after I had this done, I would report back to the person trying to help me with what was found in there and some pictures.....  I

You might try finding a member near by to help you out.  I don't want to volunteer anyone, but Crazyhorse (Mac) is a good man and about 70 miles from you.  You might try PMing him and see if he can help you out.  There may be others closer.

There is no reason to not do a desmog on your bike if you are Ok with a desmog.

To desmog your bike, there are many excellent directions in the shop section.

Doing a desmog will insure that there are no vacuum leaks with that section of the carburetor system and seeing you are in question regarding any vacuum leaks, a desmog ought to insure there are none.

Otherwise you need to get some manual diagrams and pictures to help you determine that all the smog equipment is correctly hooked up.

Incorrectly hooked up smog equipment can cause the problem you are having.

yeah i think your right, that desmog is looking better all the time, where is crazyhorse located at?

You might want to try to do that and post it on utube,, then post the link in this thread. That would be good information.  You stated that you knew your ignition module was good,,, how do you know,, did you swap it out with another??
The most expensive things you will purchase, are those things you would not have needed if you had listened and obeyed.

Bradb

Yes I swapped it with one off of my buddies bike it's identical.

Ricky-D

I'm wondering:

Do you have stock jets and needles in your carburetors?

***
2000_Valkyrie_Interstate

Bradb

Yes they are all stock the whole bike is stock except the pingel fuel valve.

Ricky-D

I tested doing what you described with my bike and I had different results.

At 2000 rpm's in 5th gear I whipped it to full throttle WOT.

The bike pulled strong smooth and powerfully with not so much as a hesitation.

Yours should do the same.

Desmog the bike should be one thing to do.

Either that or get some diagrams to insure you have everything correct.

Look under the bike, behind the motor and see if there is a large vacuum can under there.

Bradb

That's exactly what it doing what was your problem? Ill check it out ASAP.

Bradb

Guys please exscuse me but I have to ask a really dumb question.
Where exactly is that black canister that's part of the smog junk located? Is it visible without taking stuff off or is it hidden?

Ricky-D

California bikes have a much more intensive smog set up.

The California bikes have the can underneath the bike, behind the motor.

You'll have to get low in order to be able to see the can, if there is one there.

Just need to identify if it is a California bike, or not.

It doesn't have one. It's not there plus the bike was bought new in Evansville in. I just bought a desmog kit gonna do that as soon as it arrives.

When you get a chance Bradb,, just need to see how many seconds it takes to get a given amount of fuel flow through the petcock,, 4 oz. for instance,, just to rule that out.

Bradb

I sure will and ill let you guys know. Is desmogging very hard to do?

Bradb

Well guys just got finished desmogging my lady and it still aint made no difference with that darn fluttering. The only thing left that I know to do is change the main jets I guess.

pancho

Well after 61 posts to this thread, when you get ready to work on your problem,, verify the fuel flow through your petcock, and if it is good pull the carb caps and inspect the vacuum pistons for leaks or tears as has been suggested to you.
The most expensive things you will purchase, are those things you would not have needed if you had listened and obeyed.

Ricky-D

If the "fluttering" has only been a recent occurrence

I'd say changing the main jets is not called for.

Finishing more diagnostic testing is the proper procedure.

And since you've made no changes or modifications

more testing is definitely called for.

Well it has began after the hydro lock and when it got out of the shop bein fixed. I don't know where else to look for things.

Hoser

Did you take the tops of the carbs off and check the springs and diaphrams  yet?  Broke a spring once, would only run well when it was accelerating.  Replaced it, ran fine.  Easy job, three screws on top of each carb. If you find one broken, replace and see if it fixed it , I doubt more than one would break at a time.   ???  Hoser
I don't want a pickle, just wanna ride my motor sickle

I'm with Pancho on this one. IMHO these carbs need to be completely redone. Otherwise I believe that you'll just keep going in circles.

Ok I'm up for anything. What do y'all mean as far as (redone) exactly what all do I need to do just rejet?

csj

Seems odd that about three people have asked that you give some feedback on
fuel flow through the petcock (pingle), but you've not given a reply.

It appears to be an easy test.
A guy called me a Ba$tard, I said in my case it's an accident
of birth, in your case you're a self made man.

Bradb

Well right now I'm with my dad he is dieing and prob only have about 25-48 hrs left between that and work I have had one day away from work and all the other to kind of clear my head so that's when I did the desmog but I will check the fuel flow ASAP and report back.

Sorry to hear about your Father, I hope he is not suffering.

Back to the bike, verify the fuel delivery, if it is low, I would check the screen in the fuel tank and make sure it's not plugged up (you might want to pre order one and replace as I hear they are fragile and prone to breaking)

That's a good idea, will do and thank you! I don't think he is suffering we finally got his pain meds arranged right. But ill tell you it's ruff being an only child and dealing with these sort of things and ill have to say that the services that the hospice people are providing what little they are just stink. I hope all hospice staff isn't this way.

No, definitely not, our Hospice staff were wonderful. I'll never forget them. They certainly made a difficult situation much more bearable. If you're not experiencing the same then I'd start Googling and find another Hospice service asap. Good luck.

I don't know if you've been following this thread but it has application to your problem.

By redone, I meant rebuilt (tear down, dipped in cleaner, reassembled with good seals, gaskets, etc.).

How old is the fuel in the tank? I don't remember you mentioning this. I ask because I have had problems with mine. After flushing the tank completely, I have filled up with fresh gas and added a bit of Techtron. Within 10 minutes, my Valk was running fine again.
