There are still 4 bodies with payment outstanding. Today is deadline for me to pay the 50% on the house. PLEASE get your payments in to me before the end of the day or I am going to have to cover that cost and your spots will not be reserved.  :'(

Woohoo,, just sent my deposit looking forward to this.  Had bragged to Jenn about how the VRCC members are great people and she should feel comfortable entering into financial deals with any of our members and so far y'all haven't let her down.  Awesome.

Still have one spot open. I am also still holding two open for close family friends who are not able to request time off this far in advance so there is a possibilty that 1 or both of those may come open in the spring. I'll keep posting to this thread to bump it to the front from time to time with any available openings still available.

I will take that open spot, as I have a co-pilot wanting to go .... if still available that is!!  :cooldude:

You've got your spot! I sent you the info you requested.

With the co pilot for Chris being added, this leaves 2 spots that are being held in reserve. Those will not be confirmed until late spring next year. They may or may not be released at that time. At this point, we would simply be taking riders who want to join up with us for the cruise there but lodge on their own. If you have interest in coming though, keep an eye on this thread since those two remaining spots may be released later if the people they are held for can't use them.

We have four rally points at this time. NH, OH, NC and IL. Feel free to contact me if you want info on the ride as details unfold. One additional rally point is likely to be added when I determine where our over night will be after IL.
"All that is gold does not glitter. Not all those who wander are lost."

CliffsDaughter

This will be the route the group will be riding http://goo.gl/maps/atuL8. NC riders will be leaving on August 1st 2014 in the AM to arrive at rally point Thomasboro, IL a day early. All points northeast/east (OH, NH, etc) will rally at Thomasboro, IL by the evening of August 2nd. Depart Thomasboro for overnight in Sioux City, IA August 3rd AM. Depart Sioux City, IA for Lead, SD August 4th AM. Arrive in Lead, SD before sundown August 4th PM. Meet up with north/northwest riders (WA, ND, etc) in Lead, SD at location to be determined on August 4th. AJ and I just rode a little further than each segment comes out to last week (Cramerton, NC to Erie, PA and back again). With a gnarly storm on top of us, in the mountains. Barring any extreme weather situations, these should be 2 long but easy days with kickstands down before dark.  I will be posting hotel info in the spring for the two over nights. Still have two open spots being held in reserve that may be released. I could have an answer on one of them as soon as the end of this August so be sure to stay tuned if you are on the fence watching this thread.

I do hope that all y'all WILL head out with brand new tires and brake pads. All it takes is one person to forget (be lazy) or try to screw the maximum out of them to mess it up for everyone on the ride there/during/return.

Just imagine how busy the bike shops along your route are going to be with those less prepared!!!!!

CliffsDaughter

Hell, I put new tires and brakes on for the "short" ride to PA last week! I don't mess around with mountains curves! I think this bunch is smart enough to cover their arses. Just in case though, for those unforseen o crap moments, we do have the support vehicle and trailer on hand!

Thanks for the information. I'm interested in the 2015 trip.. We have several riders planning a trip then. Some are unemployeed at present so they have started to save as they can. I will wait for further info pertaining to that year. I haven't been there in a few years and like the idea of staying out of Sturgis this time. Be there for the party but have a consistent place to go home to. A shower is a good thing too, at least 1 a week.

We (me being the trip coordinator and my husband) have no plans to go for the 2015 rally. That's the 75th anniversary rally. There are rentals already booked for that one! That's how crowded its going to be that year!  :o We figured to get it out of our systems for 2014 rather than deal with the overwhleming crowds for 2015.  :cooldude: Plus it timed out to be my present to my husband for his 40th birthday. Winwin. The house is the best way to do it. You get a secluded place to chill out, get away from everything and a good base for touring but still very close to all the action when you want to be in the middle of it.

Ladies and gentlemen! We have had two spots open back up. Unfortunately, two spots that were spoken for had to be given up due to very unfortunate unforeseen circumstances. So, we now have two open and two in reserve that may still come open in Spring.
"All that is gold does not glitter. Not all those who wander are lost."

CliffsDaughter

Haven't had a bump in awhile. Still have two spots open but I do have active inquiries on them at this time. No money has exchanged hands though so they are still open and clear for the time being.

Still have the two newly reopened spots available. The inquiries seem to have fizzled out. They remain open so put the word out if you have anyone that may be interested!

I've been very lenient with this subject, but we do have a rule disallowing advertising on the General board.  There is a fine line at which a discussion beneficial to many becomes outright advertisement.

We've been dancing at that line for quite some time.  I'm pretty sure out toes have crossed it more than once.

MP

Why would some Valk riders, wanting to share a house at Sturgis, be anymore "commercial" than SmokingJoe getting riders for his rides?  Neither one is making any money.  Sharing rooms in a house, talking about splitting the cost of a motel room for one of Joes rides?  What is the difference?

I love Joe's rides.  If I was closer than 1200 miles away, I would be on a BUNCH of them!  Yet, he "advertises" on here all the time for them.  If you think the house in Sturgis crosses any "advertising" line, then surely Joes rides are waayyy over the line!  I think both, and any and all others, are just fine.

If we are not here to advocate for rides that Valk riders might want to join in on, then I feel we have no purpose at all.  What greater good is there for a Valk club, than to promote Valk riders getting together, and riding?

Neither is a commercial enterprise.  BOTH are just wanting Valk riders to get together, and share the wind and good company.  They are not "selling" rooms to make a profit.  They are taking the cost of a house, and dividing it up amongst the Valk riders.

Just like asking if someone wants to split a room, and go riding with Joe in the AM.

IMHO

I disagree if I have read correctly.  If I'm wrong about that the original poster will certainly clear me up privately.  No one else is in a position to do so.

MP

Just go back and read the first few sentences of post one.  Talks about sharing the cost of the house EVENLY among all those attending. The more staying, the lower the cost per person.   Do not see how that equates to profit.

I may be wrong, but that is the way I read it.

How much is it to drive down a gravel road, park your Valk outdoors in a possible hailstorm, and sleep on a foldout?

Hi there guys! I am (for all intents and purposes, I think we can all agree) the "original poster". My dad posted the first bit for me and I have been at the wheel from then on. Thank you to Melvin as I agree with him whole heartedly.

This is not a "scam". This is not a "for profit" scheme. This is me taking my husband to Sturgis for his 40th birthday. We (being myself and my father) thought it would be great fun to share a house rental with some other riders and ride out together. The idea of making some new friends and sharing a house with some interesting, like minded, people was appealing! He immediately thought of the Valk group here because he has had great experiences with them and has enjoyed meeting more than a few of you. So we posted here to see if anyone was interested.

There is no profit being made here. This is simply a house share post for what is, unquestionably, THE most expensive rally in the United States for those who want to stay in something other than a tent. This house share makes it possible for us all to stay in relative luxury in a great location when we may not have been able to alone, financially. I have sent a private message to Willow to see if I can clear the air.

Bad juju be gone! Happy thoughts ya'll and safe riding!   :)

I remember watching this on the tele. Unfortunately, weather in all its forms, is a risk we all take riding. Here there everywhere. Mother nature is a B.

Seems like a garage would be a good idea then.

The event itself doesn't provide one (the place where most people park and spend a generous portion of their day/evening) AND this house doesn't have one. SO those seeking to utilize one wouldn't be interested in this thread and can simply move on in their search. Those that are staying are aware of that factoid and are planning accordingly. Speaking for myself and husband, we have a heavy duty canvas canopy with sides. As good as a garage? Of course not. But hella better than none.

I think we need to keep ALL of the questions and answers visable in this thread rather than via email.  That way everyone can see the info and ideas being exchanged.

On a Sturgis area related note, does anyone know of a place near Lead (just a little south of Sturgis) to get a massage? I have only found one place so far and am trying to line something up for the morning after arrival for my road weary self and interested companions. I KNOW my muscles will love me for it!

I am really looking forward to spending some extended time getting to know other Valk riders, most of whom I have not met.  What a great idea!

Come, and join us.  The house looks awesome, and will work great.  Plus, it is out away from all the hubbub, so can relax when wanted.

I am looking forward to seeing more than one Valk in one spot. My dad's is the only one I have ever really seen. And we (my husband and I) go to quite alot of rally's and such. Be nice to see such a "rare" bike represented at Sturgis by you guys!

I think we have a couple folks watching this thread that are heading out there next year too. Would like our group to hook up with them out there for a cold one and some giggles if we can! Really going to be a great time. Good company, riding, relaxing, people watching, and all the in betweens!! Yay!
