just saying goodby

after a long time here, and many years on a valk, I have to bid everyone here goodby. I have made some good personal friends like evan, and the crew from Colorado, but for several reasons I must head out.

I am going to be riding a new Harley bagger, (so begin the flaming) and the flaming is probably a big reason for my changing, I have been on a Harley forum for some time and believe it or not they are really pretty adult about other brands of bikes, seldom do I see any immature bike bashing like I see here. it seems that on the Valkyrie forums people are really quick to start bashing someone for just about anything, but really quick for expressing your opinion about something, I actually haven't saw that on the Harley forums much, and not at all in the outlaw groups. they have better things to do apparently. I have never been called an "old bastard" or an "asshat" on any of the Harley boards, and they tend to respect CMA members.

while I really like my Valkyrie, I have come to worry about my petcock, my alternator, my rear pinion cup, my elusive O-rings, hydrolock, pinched vaccum lines, desmogging, tightening everything every 5 days to avoid "popping", not running the right size car tires, etc, etc, etc. seems like if things can go wrong with a bike it will eventually go wrong with a Valkyrie, I am becoming afraid to ride it cross country.

I have split my time in the saddle and on the board between my valk, and a brothers Harley, so far I have found no problems with the Harley except that it gets 48 mpg running all day at the same speed as my Valkyrie, pulling a trailer it still gets 46 mpg, my Valkyrie drops from 30 to 24 with the same trailer, I don't have all the shaft drive stuff to worry me, and there is no need to change to car tires. fuel injection eliminates the need to buy pingles or elect. valves to avoid hydrolocked motors. belts are cheap and easy to install compared to the drivelines that seem to be such a problem with the Valkyries, according to what we read here.

now all that said, I have rode three valks. thousands, and thousands of miles and have had absolutely none of these problems, I get 25K on a set of dunlops, (until I triked it, now I would probably wear out the bike before I needed a tire) but according to the board members, eventually i'm gonna hydrolock it, right ?

but far more than the mechanical problems, I cannot stay around a group that have very little respect for a persons opinion, and are so quick to call folks an "asshat" :(

Big Al of Tennessee

It's cool.

Which Harley Board could you recommend?

I ride a Dresser, (Classic) 2013 model.

Asshat is a lot better than I have been called here. I am just tougher and smarter than most of

the name callers.

Again PM me the Harley Board you would recommend. And thanks in advance.
GOD SAVE THE UNITED STATES from the democrats is my prayer.

PAVALKER

Goodbye and Good Luck with your new ride choices.  I hope it all works out well for you.

I didn't have the same experience on the HD forums that you claim to have experienced, but I wish you well with that too.  Depending on the board, or the individual on the board, the acceptance or affection towards metrics varies as it does here with HD.

Good Luck.

Best of luck to you. I'm curious why you felt so disrespected ? You expressed your opinions on subjects and others expressed their opinions of them. Being a CMA doesn't really earn extra privileges does it ? I do understand you wanting to move on. If I got rid my Valkyries and got a Harley I would do the same :cooldude:

I've had none of the mechanical problems you are sensitized to.  Though I have taken some steps to prevent some of them proactively. Of course what you see on a board like this is folks talking about their problems so they appear to be overrepresented. I'm thinking also the political posts and maybe even brand bashing may be because bored riders want to talk about SOMETHING on this virtual neighborhood.  Including other interests like hobbies (guns etc) and concerns for the current political climate and how the economy, health care etc is a concern of everybody nowadays.

Good luck on your new direction.  Hopefully your skin will thicken some before you discover the same issues on other venues.  Not so nice, BTW, to take shots on your way out.  That's often called "burning bridges".  Yet you claim to toe a higher road - doesn't CMA stand for CHRISTIAN Motorcycle Assoc.?  Not quite so tolerant as you moniker suggests, huh?  Hmmm.

I'll still ride with you, if you are up to it. I expect that goes for everyione in the CO VRCC riders. We are still having the Great Brisket Ride on the 11th - and nobody cares what you ride. I'm thinking we will meet in Castle Rock at the McDonalds parking lot and ride together to Elizabeth on back twisty roads.  But there hasn't been much comment on that since I suggested it recently.

When my kids do what you are doing, we call that "Creative Tattling"....  what you really are saying, is, "Thanks guys, but you suck and this bike does too".

If that isn't brand bashing, what is?

So, when I was saddling my bike at the Federal building in Ogden the other day and a guy getting on his 1976 AMC harley says, "Huh... I was wondering who's piece of sh%t tupperware that was" right to my face, that wasn't brand bashing and Harley arrogance?  Thanks for helping me realize that I was overly sensitive.

Have fun.... maybe I'll see you some day and I can be blessed by touching the tassles on your CMA cloak.  I don't care what you ride, but apparently you do.

Good luck.  :cooldude:

Just cause your not liked by some dont mean you should leave. There are some that dont like me but I'm still here and will ride with anyone anytime. We all make asshat comments from time to time.

Mechanical issues happen to all makes and models. I saw a guy blow a belt on his newer HD a few months ago in Vanocker Canyon. Had a HD friend loose a hard bag in ND last summer. My HD bud starts his by jumping the starter with a screw driver. He also 'sets' his loose wheel bearings by cutting it hard to the right when his rear gets wobbly. Not to mention the 100's of over heated HD's setting along the road at night cause of the stop and go Chip traffic. We always play 'lets count the oil spots' under the bikes in the HD showroom.  ;D The HD like the valk, requires proper maintenance. If you neglect it, things will happen. Honestly the HD problems is what keeps me away from one. Like you but in reverse. I'll roll over 100k next yr. Never once on my annual 3k-6k Sturgis trips have I worried about a break down.

Hope it all works out on that new to you HD and you have as many trouble free miles on that as you did on your Valk.   :cooldude:

Gas mileage on HD's are much better (but less power), but if it fits your butt and you like it, is all that matters really.  Some of us ass-hats you should care less on what they said to you.  Wife always tells me from time to time don't you care what others think of you.  I said back:  Never have, never will.   ;)

Valkorado

Well, heck, I for one will be sorry to see you go.  I enjoyed meeting you, and reading your posts.

I'm guessing you were being sarcastic (where's that sarcasm font?) when you mentioned all the impending problems that will bring doom and gloom to all us cursed riders of the rickety old bags of bolts we somehow manage to hold together with duct tape and JB Weld.

The Valk really is one of the finest cruisers ever made, not to take anything away from Harley -- they make many great machines.

I don't like name calling.  I always try to breathe and think before writing to avoid it.  I'll bash an idea, but I try not to bash the person for expressing it.  It takes restraint.  And lots of breathing.

I hope you still come around here with your knowledge and input.  Maybe some HD impressions and ride reports.  And give me a heads up next time you ride to Gunni, I'll be glad to ride with you on your HD bagger -- if I'm not broken down!   ;)

Hey man, good luck and have a nice ride on whatever is under you.  So what?  It's a non-issue as far as I can tell; couldn't care less what anyone rides, I'm out for MY ride.  If you don't play the game of "Wonder what that dude's riding and is my bike better, faster, cooler, hipper, shinier, tech-savyer, newer, classier, etc.,etc. than his?"; it's such a load off of your mind playing tricks with you.  Get my drift? 8)

Religion has no bearing on being a rider or not.  You wanna fly your colors with the people you most associate with?  Tool on down the road and keep on.

When Japanese cars came along many people switched to buying and driving them and were chastised for it.  Now they have a major percentage of the car market and Big Three Autos are seemingly in the minority these days.  Ya drive what'cha like.

As I say frequently: "Have a nice life; see ya in heaven." :)

Since you described your Valkyrie as an impending POS I hope you are not intending to trade/sell that to anyone.

PM me your address and I'll come take that POS off your hands and get it out of your way.  I'll ride it another 300k miles.

We have a sayin' down here that quite likely applies, "Don't let the door knob hit you in the ass on the way out."

I read your comments.   ---------------- But I do not agree with them.
The folks here have been helpful and friendly and above board in all my dealings with them.
Yes they have opinions and like you they are entitled to them and to state them.

You are right you should leave, because you appear to not be happy hear.
No one should stay with anything that displeases them, it just makes it hard on everyone.

But next time just say goodbye and offer positive suggestions for improvement,
it is a lot better approach.

Good luck on your new bike and new forum membership.

I have been a VRCC member going on 2 yrs. I have read many of your post. I too am a christian and have enjoyed your
perspective on various subjects. I find everyone on here for the most part to be a very caring, giving bunch of folks. I have
laughed, cried and said to myself, huh. To quote a unknown source on the forum, " I don't care what you ride, just don't run
into me". And one of my great sources of wisdom as I approach 70 is my 10yr grandson, Jordan. " papa, everyone is different."
I know my Magnificent ( 98 fast black tourer) Lady will carry me to the end of my days in the saddle. When I ride I seldom
meet myself coming down the hwy, or pull up by myself in a lot full of bikes and I never tire of hearing " what the heck is that "
though it is on the tank, or " d_ _ _ that's a big motor".
Best of fortune to you, your family and your new MC family. Try to hide your disappointment when you find out they are
not perfect. As you and I know there is only ONE who is.

Dear Friend

Too bad you decided to leave, I wish you all the best in your future bike/forum/etc.

I have being using 'this internet thingie' since 1996 (yeah, I'm surprisingly 'young' when compared to the average age of other forum members) and been part of several groups on varied subjects in the last 18 years (off-road, rock, motorcycles, computers, programming, etc).

People here at VRCC is one of the most well behaved and gentle people I've met in the webs (for some reason, everyone have a tendency to become a bully when typing behind a keyboard). So, I would say that we have to agree to disagree about 'flaming' being a good reason to leave.
:-)

Best regards

Savago
ps: I do agree that the mpg in a Valkyrie is a bit disappointing (I have a wee-strom that yields 50 to 55mpg!), but my lady dragon pays back in satisfaction while riding.

Jess from VA

You should hang around, if you want to.  I've enjoyed your posts and our discussions.  :cooldude:

Most (all?) of us are happy to befriend or ride with any make or model rider so long as that rider is safe and competent (and sober).

You should understand that most of us have had pretty in-your-face Jap Crap, Rice Burner, Foking Hondas, superior HD attitude thrown at us from time to time, and some amount of push back is to be expected.  People are only human, and all sinners.

Best of luck with everything you do buddy.

solo1

I agree with you on one thing, the gas mileage (more horses to feed) but I think the rest was unnecessary.  Even though I no longer ride a Valk i still consider it and the riders on this forum the best.

Good luck on your new ride and new friends.   I hope that neither will let you down.

Hey Punisher. If he doesn't want sell the Valk I got a 2006 Goldwing that could use some TLC. OOOOOPPPPPPS I'm kidding. Now that's an Asshat.

Damn I ride a Ural and nobody makes fun of me. I believe I even let Big Al and Popcorn ride it and they didn't make fun it either.

Life is too short and sometimes too harsh to be getting tangled up in your shorts over somebody calling you an asshat, etc.   The Valkyrie brought us all together but it is "us, all of us" that keeps us coming back.   Hell, I can get on my Valkyrie and ride anywhere, right by myself, but I enjoy going to rides with folks because we are friends that all started because of a shared love of a motorcycle and motorcycling in general.   I don't judge a person by the machine they ride but by their character.    I have met a few through motorcycling that I don't care if I ever see again but they are few, most of the folks I've met during my motorcycling travels I look forward to crossing paths with them again and again...

Charlie - You coming to the FCR and/or Vet Day rides this year?  How many miles you got on that Wing and Ural now?

Oss

Good luck Dennis, you have left before, when you were rodeo1, from both this and another
Valkyrie forum if my recall is spot on, and I do believe it is spot on

Sorry I will miss you when we are out west,
was looking forward to driving your vette,

I think the Ural is neat as heck. An old friend has one and the dog rides in the car complete with googles. A fella near us in Florida has one too. It looks like a simple and rugged bike that I'd like to putter around on.
