I've been working since last August to get the Old Vic re-roofed. Contracts. Insurance. Weather...finally...today...a dozen guys showed up and stole most of my roof...

That sure is a nice ol home! My town is full of  that kind of housing and most of it is taken care of very well. When someone lets one fall into disrepair the city gets on them not to mention most of them are in the hysterical district and they ride herd on most of the homeowners. I'm not afraid of heights but that pointy thing would be concerning. Again, nice home!

You just KNOW it's a large job when you need a 5 axle semi to deliver the materials. Hope it all goes well on The Old Vic Daniel!  Just think when you get the roof DONE-one worry out of the way for WHAT-50-60 years?  RIDE SAFE.

I read the fine print of your contract, if you help, the price doubles... So... just take pictures and practice deep breathing exercises...

That's the way my roof looked when the guys the insurance company hired to replace my hail damaged roofs on the house and garage.

They were here at 7:00 AM and done at 1:45 PM.    That included putting up new gutters also.    The ones they call Leaf-Guard.

That is what I had on it and the Insurance Company dribbled up to the plate nd come through without any harsh words.

I'm sure Daniel can clarify, but they look like Gaf Sienna shingles.

I've never seen that style-It wouldn't work too well up in the frozen north.

I looked at the pictures and thought that it looked very professional except no ice and water shield at the eaves and rake.  Then I remembered it's Texas not Manitoba

Yes. Their entire system. Special underlay, ice/water shield, 'w' channel, starter, ridge vent, ridge row...

i like how they put the shingles on at a 45 to get that effect, if thats what they did..

It's actually a specialty shingle. I was going for "attitude".

I thought they were, that is what they put on my house.   Expensive, but I think it will last the rest of my lifetime.

It does look great.  Big job, and a lot of cleanup. When mine was done (removing two roofs), even though they did a good clean-up, I was picking up old tacks for two years.  Beware of tennies.

I remember working at the steel mill, when our foreman pulled out a camera, we all worked extra hard.

Fargle-snorker is down, waiting on a hydraulic line (or three)...I'm sure they'd LOVE to use it on that tower. I'm still waiting to see how they handle that...

One of the things that strikes me is how much more quickly it gets done with a crew of professionals up there than it does with one of us and a few helping friends.

That's going to really make the appearance of that house pop.

They have a metal bracket nailed to the 2x4 that hooks to a nail or whatnot above the row of shingles they installed it on. When done they just push 'em up and pull 'em out of the roof. No hole, no damage to the shingles.

Heh...yah...I've done several roofs and I knew two things for sure when I bought this house...
1) It would need a roof.
2) I wasn't gonna do it!

That's going to really make the appearance of that house pop.   

What it's really gonna do is point out just how bad the crappy paint job on the house is!

They are GAF Sienna in "Harbor Mist" color.

They pulled this down off the tower this evening...they'll want to put it back up tomorrow after lunch...

It's just over 7 feet tall.

I've got a bit of a restoration project tonight.

There's more than 8 hours of work in that thing...getting it this far...nowhere near perfection...BUT...it was never perfect. Solder, galvanizing, and paint were extremely rough ~115 years ago...but since it lives around 40 feet off the ground...perfection was never required.
