For a Standard or Interstate? I have both and have had continuing trouble with cracking on the Interstate. Not Motowings though, they're Baker Built. I'd love to know if Interstate Motowings fare any better.

I have the flame cut motowings on my standard Bakers and they are fantastic...not a hint of cracking or anything.

The upper wings crack. I knew in advance of pod cracking so I added an additional support to the chrome bar support. You can see the zip tie support and a new star crack appearing at the mounting hole. This is the second set and they're beginning to fail the same way and now it's just a matter of time. I tried to avoid over tightening the screw at that hole. After the first set failed I attached these with kid gloves - fail! I'm looking for another supplier that makes a better, stronger upper wing for the Interstate.

I've never had any issue with my Standard wings except for the lower balls loosening and falling off - OF MY AIRWINGS!

Got my panels custom made by motowings. Rik was very helpful and prompt to answer any emails right from concept to fabrication. The acrylic used for the panels is definitely thicker than the original ones from baker.

Motowings are definitely better looking than Baker. I'll give them a call and see if their IS panels will fit the Baker frames. I'm not throwing away any more money on Baker. Thanks!

BonS, they certainly do fit the baker frames....I put them on my IS....baker frames with smoked Motowings.  From what I could learn, the frames Motowings offer are Bakers.

Why don't you make them yourself with lexan. I did it on my I/S using the old ones as template.Easy job.

Yes, MotoWings uses Baker frames. Rik has permission and support from Baker. Motos are 3/16" vs 1/8" for Bakers. I have Rik's smoked hand wings on my 1800 Wing.

I've never worked with Lexan. Doesn't it require special cutting blades and drill bits? How does the heat and bend process go?

And yes, they're everything they're supposed to be. I love scooping in extra cooling air in the summer and extending my riding seasons by blocking the cold winds. All with an easy adjustment while I'm riding. I know - "Don't adjust them while riding! (Baker)".

No special tools required. Go to youtube and you will find everything. I used a table saw to make the first cuts. Then used a belt sander to form the contour. A regular wood bit will be good for the holes and finally a heat gun to bend. Watch the video for the finishing touch on the edges using sandpaper and a torch

The original panels that came with my set of Bakers cracked within a year.  They actually started to fall apart not long after that.

Baker sells replacement wings/panels that are much better that don't crack.  Mine have been on there for years now with no problems.

They have "Next Generation" wings with stronger plastic for the Standard but not for the Interstate.

I'm waiting on air wings – Moto wings – to come from Rik for my 98 tourer.  Do you think putting some Loctite on those lower balls to keep them from loosening up (and falling off) is a good idea in hindsight?  Based on what I've been reading in this thread, it seems like don't over tighten anything, but a little Loctite to keep everything from vibrating apart might be a better plan.  What do you think?  Thanks.

I did not use any loctite and mine has never loosened. I do occasionally inspect them and if needed hand tighten them. If you are going to use loctite use the green kind.

I lost one of those ball nuts years ago and replaced them with a chrome acorn nut.  So a little blue Loctite would not hirt.  I prefer adjusting with a wrench anyway.

I have also replaced the Baker panels with Moto-Wings after going through two sets of Baker's.  The Moto-Wings are, hands down, superior.  Half again as thick and a better material.

Isn't the green loctite the high strength/high temp?  I was thinking the red stuff I got that's easy to break loose if I want to.

I just ordered a set of motowings and big bike things fork deflectors for my IS. I guess BonS fix with the zip tie is the best bet to keep the pods from cracking. I still like the idea of stainless bar stock of both sides of the pod for extra reinforcement.  And some blue loctite to keep parts from fall ing off.

Well got my Moto's and they look and work great.    But after a couple weeks of riding and checking I am now minus 1 ball  so I will replace with an acorn nut and Definitely use loctite on ALL the nuts.

Okay this is going to sound weird, and I guess I'll find out in a few days when my stuff shows up, but what exactly do those "balls" do?   . And if they can be replaced with acorn nuts, why does Baker supply balls?

The balls are just round nuts that are easy to adjust by hand.  And baker says to keep checking them but  If you heed the advice about using some loctite you won't have any problems.

just got an email back, said the panels would be built today and said Baker was sending a batch of brackets to chrome today. so i may be another week before i see the brackets.

looks like you ordered IS mounts which are different than tourers so maybe mine are en route.

Support from Baker sucks!!! When I ordered replacement parts from Baker after my accident, they screwed up the order TWICE even after I called and spoke to them on both the occasions. They did not send me any tracking info either, I had to call and request it.

Well, you gotta wonder how they like furnishing their mounts for Motowings anyway.  I know it's more product out the door for them, but it's still like they lost business to Rik and probably just a matter of time before they say you get everything from us or nothing.

Said this is the first time this has happened since they have been dealing with them. I think it's great Rik lets his customers know the status of their purchase. He wanted to return my money and let me reorder when they became available.  Told him I could wait and thanks for keeping me in the loop.

Well, my stuff arrived today from Baker, and they totally botched my order.   They did send the correct mounting brackets for a Valkyrie tourer, but they omitted most of the hardware.  I don't see how anybody on their end could imagine I'd be able to mount panels with what they sent me.  Sucks. So now I have to work through Rik to get my order from Baker straightened out.  The only good news is he  reassured me that if something wasn't right, he'd make it right.

Just put my Dragon MOTO Wings on my tourer. Baker hardware. Live in Palm Springs, CA and the engine heat can be brutal in summer temps of 110+. Have adjusted them in several different angles and the work better than I even hoped for. Good luck with yours

Yeah, I have a couple of "sticks" of Loctite – it works pretty good on most applications, and the stuff I have is red;-)
