I love most of the political posts on this board.

They make me believe there may still be some hope (and some love) for my Country.
just think how optimistic we'd feel if we didn't have to sift through the posts from Baldo and Meathead! ;D ;D

This isn't directed specifically at you Romeo, but since you made the statement..............

You guys aren't really reading Meathead's posts and replies thoroughly, or for some reason miss most of his actual points.  I would never lump him in with the likes of some the others.
duly noted. In the future I will read Mr. Meatheads posts a little closer. Sometimes though, playing devils advocate just for the sake of playing devils advocate is a little like crying wolf. If you do it too much, lesser folks just get tired of it.

With the Serk I am struck by the overwhelming irony in the original post in this thread and the avatar of the poster.

Let me clarify that I speak for myself and do not necessarily represent the concurrence of the VRCC staff.

I join you, Dave, in a dislike for some, maybe even much, of the claptrap that gets posted on our board addressing political subjects.  I don't really have a problem with posts that attempt to address an explanation on political topics or that seem to offer respectful discussion on a political point.  Unfortunately the vast majority of the political posts on our board fall into the category of ridiculing and demeaning those who do not agree with the poster.  Those posts do not promote the well being of the VRCC community and have, in my opinion, been responsible for driving some VRCC contributors away.  Those high profile demeaning posts are actually generally the work of a relatively few posters.  Those posters are representative of both ends of the political spectrum although now, as was true ten years ago, they most often represent the perspective opposing that which holds the top executive position of the U.S. of A.

When you post, I speak to the plural and from my heart, you should keep in mind that your words should be no more abrasive than they would be in face to face conversation.  Remember too that commonly heard political snippets that are attacks on someone's political hero sound absolutely stupid to those who disagree with your position.  They don't make you seem brilliant except perhaps to a few people who already agree with you.

Those are a few of my thoughts and maybe my desires of how I wish the VRCC General board would be used but in the final analysis it is by definition a general board.  We do have some limitations but they do not include the prohibition of political posts or demeaning political avatars.

Lastly, Dave, if you really are determined to frequent a Valkyrie board that will tend to be limited to motorcycle topics only I invite you to try one at the board of the Valkyrie Owners Association.     Valkyrie Owners Association International

wasnt meaning to be an ass hat, just came out that way,,,the written word has no emotion so you took it in the mood you were in when you read it..

Never really thought about it that way.  Thanks Jess.
If we were talking instead of typing, I bet a bunch of these threads would be interpreted differently.

Btw, there is nothing but mc talk on the v Strom site that I frequent.

I am also a member of a Kawasaki board for 750 Vulcan owners.

It is all but a dead board.

I can go for months at a time without seeing any new posts there.

It may be a motorcycle board but it isn't a community.

The VRCC is a community!

For the most part I exercise self control here in either not reading or not responding to posts that I find distasteful.

I would encourage you to do the same.

A post cannot offend me if I don't read it.

Romeo, I don't play devils advocate just to play it. Everything I express is how I truly feel. I understand it doesn't comport with how most feel. But it is who I am. You can read my posts more thoroughly or not, but please understand one thing about me. The opinions I express are mine and I don't post on here with anything other than that. I'm sorry I have rubbed you the wrong way. I hope one day I'll be able to ride to the Midwest part of our country. Maybe we will be able to ride some great roads there together and you'll have a different opinion of me.  :cooldude:

As far as coming up Midwest to ride, we have a few cools things to see, but I somehow thing your stomping grounds offers quite a few more, it's always been an area I would love to ride through.

I have never been good with writing and I really think that you have to put alot of thought into what you write to have it come across correctly. Its really hard sometimes to relay an idea through writing, much harder than speaking it in person. I think this is where some of the problem is.

There are many very active, interesting forums on the internet, on a wide variety of topics, that do not allow political/religious postings.  The reason those postings are not allowed on other forums is not an effort to make their sites boring, but rather an effort to keep things civil among members.  There is nary a political posting on this site that does not devolve to rudeness and insults among fellow members.  A majority of VRCC members and one moderator of the VRCC in particular truly enjoy the status quo on this board, and they are bored unless they are allowed to gang up on, and insult, anyone that holds a different political ideology.  They are not interested in civil discussion, but rather log on in each day to engage in whining and back-patting.  Their primary joy in life is not spending time with family and friends, nor is it riding a Valkyrie, but rather logging onto this site to whine and insult.  Changing the format of the VRCC would make it so their lives have no meaning to them, so they fiercely oppose it.

Look at the OP's post, it's tone, and then look at the reaction by the members.  A calm, and reasonable point being brought up, one that has been brought up many times, and yet look at the response.  Pointing at him and laughing, ridicule and attack.  Several posters suggesting he leave the forum, and go elsewhere.  Even the moderator!

Now watch the vitriol that will follow my post.

The moderator did not suggest the OP leave the forum, he merely suggested an alternative that may be more suitable to his desires.

Actually, there was just recently a political post on this site that did NOT devolve to rudeness and insults among fellow members ...it was on the recent Canadian federal election (I'm sure you all remember that momentous event). Maybe this board needs more Canadian politics postings  :2funny: ..nah, might be a little too boring for most on here ;)

There are many here that do as you are saying. But to say that it is the majority and includes moderators is a stretch at best. There are many that don't post anything political at all. As to said moderator , just because he has differing views from you or I doesn't mean he wants us to go away. Actually if memory serves me, many more on the right side of the spectrum have been banished from this board than from the left side. We as members of this board would be best served with less vitriol on both sides. That's probably not going to happen but we can choose to ignore Bullshit that is posted. Some need to post Bullshit to have others pat them on the back and tell them how brilliant they are for thinking such and such. WE AS MEMBERS DONT HAVE TO REACT TO BULLSHIT. (I acknowledge I need to do this more myself)

Daddie O  just gave a excellent view of his perception of this board and it's members. As usual I don't agree with his perception but I can't say he is wrong in everything he wrote. If you end your post with, " now watch the vitriol that will follow my post" you are just setting up a response that will fill the bill. I have found recently that Meathead is not a pot stirrer and that his posts show a lot of thought. He comes at an idea or thought from a lot of different directions so you have to be ready to duck.  ;D But he doesn't strike me as a person with blinders on charging ahead with one narrow position. Daddie O just reminds me of a kid walking around with a chip on his shoulder, of course that is just my perception, I could be way off base.

I'm pretty sure I used the word try which to me means to go look it over and see if the difference suits you.

I'm also pretty sure I must be the moderator to which Daddy O referred but I don't think I match the accusation.  I specifically don't "gang up" on anyone, not even the three of me do that.  And I do disagree greatly with some folks political position but by and large I tend to stay away from the political discussions on the board.  There are exceptions.

Meathead, at this point you may be only half right.   ;)
I've met all 3 of you......I still like you.......Also,dadddi0 is a post ----.

I enlarged the OP's avatar and now see it says
Official Seal of the US Democratic Party

So a day late I finally get the joke about the avatar

However I  don't see the need for
another board to occupy more of the time of the moderators

The tech board and shop talk are there (together with all the phone numbers and emails of members) to help with any Valk related problems

Doesn't anyone want to ride tomorrow ?  Should just crack freezing at dawn then get a bit warmer

At least I got to ride today   :cooldude:

The forcefulness of an opinion will sometimes upset those with opposite views and that goes both ways.

Being in the minority opinion is not easy.

But sometimes when the opinion is wrong its the best way.

But insults, wrong results, and crudeness is never the way to be on either side.

Stay off the hot button topics if you don't know how to address them like a educated normal respectable person addressing those with opposite majority opinions.

Otherwise stay in the shallow water of motorcycle conversations and all will be fine.

Why take an action that plays to weakness and continue in that path?

Sulking like a little child and not participating is equivalent to admitting lack of social skills and very self oriented and lacking self control.

A board is a place with people with a like idea to get together and share that idea, but common ground on one point does not automatically mean common ground on all points.

The board price is free, the knowledge and people are valuable, and it was made without anyone's approval and for the topic at hand.

What ever allowances made by those who, run, created, this board that welcome all to come with what they want is gracious.

We are all freeloaders and contributors in someones idea of what they want for a board. Its not a democracy.

So learn to live within the constraints allowed to us, who participate with the joy in sharing allowed ideas in allowed ways because it seems to work for so many.

Bad attitudes with terrible ideas only shows lack of appreciation that permeates of childish ways and no self control.

To address the take it or leave it attitude you would not go into Harley and expect to find Honda's

So don't come here and try to change the store enjoy it for what it is,

Take your arse and go to the place where you feel warm and fuzzy or decide to enjoy the company of those with different ideas, maybe even showing them the error of their ways. Nicely, politely, with self control and in a way that speaks of education and better ideas rather than a bar room brawl.

QUOTE by Robert.

I have never found that motorcycle conversation is shallow.  Certainly, the mechanics of it could be shallow.  However, a person to person chat in person about motorcycles will reveal the inherent goodness of most motorcycle riders.  The enjoyment of freedom, in the wind, and independence I will gladly share with anyone with like feelings.

The socalled deeper feelings about things political generally will cause hard feelings and discontent among riders discussing this on this board. which is just the opposite of 'shallow' conversations.

Just some thoughts from me that really aren't clearly stated.  Sorta like if a person asks why you ride.. If you don't know, i can't explain it.............and I still can't explain it even though I've quit riding..................AND miss it!

I so agree with you  :cooldude:

On this board we do not get into the real meat and potatoes of what makes each tick.

Its a whole different world when you ride together, the written meaning seems to loose something.

Just as you said If you don't ride, you don't know. But if you don't ride with someone do you know them?

Sharing the experiences of riding gives bonding, but writing about other experiences without riding with someone or even seeing them face to face falls into the category of relating experiences which we all can do of riding but not necessarily of anything else.

This is where we may forget that we share an experience and share a bike but not necessarily an ideal or know how relate that idea correctly.  Thats why I say stay in the shallow pool of relating only what we came here for which takes less control and less understanding and since we all love riding less caring.

A couple of thoughtful and to the point posts by Robert & Solo1, a couple of obviously experienced members. I believe you gents have summed it up perfectly, regarding this on-going topic. I enjoy this board because of the fact such a diverse group of individuals not only share their passion for the motorcycle I was smart enough to purchase 15 years ago, but also come from varying perspectives on life in general. How boring it would be to have everyone agree with you on everything. Agree, disagree, or agree to disagree.... as long you're RESPECTFUL of one's honestly expressed values and opinions even if they're vastly different than yours, you're bound to learn something new by engaging them in discussion... which is what life is all about, right?
