Rear tire valve stem was leaking when replaced found out my Rear drive spline is stuck in rear wheel final drive on 2000 Valkyrie GL 1500CT.  Bought a 1998 Goldwing GL1500SE Rear differential Final Drive and rear wheel final drive spline to install when I need my tires replaced.  Lived in Florida for 7 years had the tires replaced there and must not have lubed when reinstalled?  Can you guys tell me if the Goldwing 1500SE and the Valkyrie 1500CT are interchangeable? Thanks!

No, just some internal parts. search the board.

somebody just posted the other day that a GW GL1500 swing fits the Valkyrie, so then the GW final can be used.
I do not know if this has been verified to be true.

The ONLY issue is one of the 4 mounting studs is in the wrong position. If you cut it off, it should work. But if you can get the 1500 wing swingarm, that should work too.

Hey Richie, with the parts you have, you need to disassemble are press the splines out of the GW final, and press them into the Valkyrie ring gear and use the GOldwing drive flange. Use the Valkyrie shim and bearing, and no backlash adjustments will be required. It has been done by several successfully, including myself. Do a search on final drive rebuild, or final drive pressout, and you should be able to find details of the job. That is the easiest and most cost effective way to go for repairing spline damage that I know of.

When assembling the wheel, Make sure to include the nylon thrust washer that goes between the driven flange and wheel, easiest way to severely damage your wheel is to leave it out.
The most expensive things you will purchase, are those things you would not have needed if you had listened and obeyed.

So, have you "unstuck" the flange from the final drive.  Are the splines toast or not?

Richie

*FIRST* Thanks to all who have replied!  Your time and help is much appreciated.  I should have asked 1st and wouldn't be in this situation.  Hind sight is always 20/20.  I dropped my bike off to have the valve stem replaced the mechanic gave me the bad news.  He said he even tried to use a crowbar but could not dislodge the flange. So I have not gotten it unstuck as yet I'm still riding my Lady.  I want to wait till I get all the advice from you guys before I decide my best course of repair. If I get the Valkyrie drive flange spline the studs will line up then but will it fit in the GWing 1500 Final Drive.  Just considering all my options.

The 5 spoke flange is the same for the GW and Valkyrie. I have them both, and I have both rear wheels. I just checked the parts fiche, the GL1500 all use the same one, and even some of the ST1100.

I'm the one who posted that the swing arm of a GW can be transplanted to the Valk, based upon another's post on their Franken Bike. I forget the name, but think its the guy who has the avatar of a long haired man (unless that's the GL1800 bobber?).

Actually, the 88 & 89 GW1500 have a six pin drive flange. 90 and up GW1500 use the same drive flange as the Valkyrie

That was the avatar I was thinking of, pago cruiser. But not that bike, his is an GL1800. Someone else did a GW/Valk swingarm conversion.

As for the 6 spoke flange, that's why I mentioned 5 spoke all being the same. My GW was a 88' 6 spoke, and I bought a 94' rim, which was 5 spoke. Also learned the rotors are a different size for the 88'-89' (also the brake bracket).

If you will notice that is a 1500 Valk with a 1800 engine and GW swing arm attached so it is a GL 1500 with a GL 1800 engine ;)

When I was building my bike from parts, I had access to what was left of a '99 GL1500. I did not have a

Valkyrie rear swing arm nor a Valkyrie rear wheel. I used the gl swing arm and gl wheel and rear drive.

And put on an Austone Taxi tire on that wheel and then proceeded to ride my "new" Valkyrie from

Wiggins, MS to Insane 15, and then up to the Canadian border and then back home.

There are issues: the "spread" or distance between the top of the shocks is not as wide at the rear

differential and therefore there is a possibility of breakage of the lower shock mount on the drive unit.

BUT,   I know that it WILL work.

I changed all that crap out as soon as I got home. The parts (which hadn't arrived before departure) were

there when I got home. WHEW!!!

Had a great time and a great ride on a great bike....

Ride safe...

Now that you spoke up, I think it was your write up I was referring to, I remember the InZane ride.

So it works, but the only other issue is the alignment of the rear shocks. So with a welder and some fabbing, you could change the mounts for the shock, and make this work?

Did you have any pictures to post?

How did the fender work out, stock Valkyrie?

I figure I would go this way if I was ever to need a new rear drive, since the GWs are so much more cheaper. Driving an IS, no one really sees the rear wheel, and they wouldn't notice it's not a stock one.

just remember the GL1500 rim is narrower than the Valkyrie's so always a smaller tire it will have safely.

Yes, the gl rims are not as wide as the Valkyrie's but, I was still able to mount the Austone Taxi tire

without any problem. The narrow rim simply made the tread just a little more rounded. It fit fine and the

ONLY problem that I had, besides some bad gas, was the valve stem went bad.

(Thanks Old2soon! :cooldude:)

You can get by without welding if you mount the brake side shock first. But the aluminum can break off

the mounting point if you try to mount the shock on the other side. (How do I know?  >:()

The only reason I replaced all that is that I wanted to build a "complete" Valkyrie.

Oh, by the way, don't tell anybody that it has a gl1500 engine. Cough, cough.

The valve covers give it away. Haven't changed them out yet. They don't make it run and at $100 per not

likely very soon.

Good luck and ride safe.

I mounted the ATT on my 88' GW, drove it to IZ15. Put about 4K miles on it before I sold it this spring. Had no problem. Others recommended it for the GW. I know how it behaved for me, and I'll get it onto my Valk before IZ17. Just no rush in removing the CT I have on the bike now, need to get my spare powder coated rim into working condition to mount the ATT onto and swap out on the IS.

If I ever get around to it, and find a cheap enough GW motor, I'm going to swap mine out and get the reverse working.

As for covers, I always keep an eye on ebay for items I want, and try to pick them up cheap. I bought a set of GW covers for around $35 a few years ago. Just bought the GW bolts (didn't know the Valk's are too short) for $6 USD + shipping. I have bought the spray plastic to paint the covers black, so can now mount them.

get a '97 and up motor. A lot of the same upgrades the Valkyrie motor got the GW got also.

The linkage for reverse are/is direct conflict with how the brake reservoir is mounted. I opted for the brakes. Besides, the gl1500 reverse uses a bunch of other "stuff" to make it work. Electronics, cables,
idk what else.
