Honda full synthetic oil

What type/brand of oil does everybody use in their Valkyrie?    I have heard that you must use oil with high level of zinc.   Does Honda HP4 S full synthetic have zinc?    Any info would be appreciated.

You don't have to look for high zinc levels.  Just select an oil of the proper viscosity for the type and temperature of riding you are doing, but make sure the API service rating label does not say "energy conserving."

Ride bike.

Change oil and filter according to Honda recommendation.

Honda oil has always spec'd and oil analysis has shown it to be a low performing oil not worth the $$$$.

given below any diesel oil will provide the most protection and at a low cost.

JASO spec'd motorcycle oil are basically the same specs as heavy-duty diesel oil standards.
JASO does not test oils, manufactures pay a fee to JASO and state their oil meets the specs.

even better diesel oils coming into the market much better wear protection and using a 10w30 for better mpg.

use technical facts not emotional logic and one will save money on oil and fuel costs.
I have posted my used oil analysis before using 10w30 diesel oil for 8k miles from the hot summer through a cold winter riding with the bike sitting for 1 month, one of the toughest conditions for an oil. UOA came back normal to low wear and oil was still good for continued use, at least another 2k miles.

for one example there have been posts by others who run rotella 5w40 for 10 k miles and have over 100k miles on the bike.

I run the Shell Rotella 5 wt 40 for the last 2 oil changes and it is a great product. I was using Amsoil 10 wt 40 before but the cost of the Amsoil was 11.50 a qt. The Rotella is $20.00 for 4 qts and it works out great. Motor is quiet and i'am very satisfied

Remember....Honda does not make oil.  They sell oil from some manufacturer with the Honda name on it.
DON'T PAY MORE FOR THE NAME.

this 10w40 is rated for motorcycles a little less than their cycle oil

Their Diesel oils are even less $$ and will provide much better protection than their oil above and their cycle oil. And if one buys quantity cost drops even more, plus save on shipping over time.
They have to stay cost competitive to keep fleet customers sales. Cycles they do not.

are you sure ONLY 6 bucks per qt.??  for Amsoil 10w-40 synthetic cycle oil in the gray quart bottle?

My independent dealer is 10.55 per qt. cheaper than anyone else by over 50 cents per qt.

I figure for 40 bucks plus a 6 dollar hi-flo oil filter is good enough for a once a year oil change.

I've used Valvoline regular 10W-40 oil for 16 years.  Change it (and the oil filter) every 5000 miles.  I have had no problems with the engine or transmission. Bike now has 116,000 miles on it. Using the correct weight oil, as suggested by others, and change it on a regular basis along with the oil filter and your good to go!
