It seems that the feds stopped Social Security checks about 7 or 8 years ago going with only direct deposit.

The USPS has been moving/rearranging outside boxes for years/decades.

https://www.ssa.gov/deposit/

“If you apply for Social Security or Supplemental Security Income benefits, a new law went into effect March 1, 2013, requiring that you receive your payments electronically. If you did not sign up for electronic payments when you applied for benefits, we strongly urge you to do it now. If you still receive checks, the U.S. Department of the Treasury will contact you about complying with the requirement. For more information regarding switching to an electronic payment, visit Treasury’s Go Direct website or call the helpline at 1-800-333-1795.”

“It's safe, quick and convenient.“

“Treasury can grant exceptions in rare circumstances. For more information or to request a waiver, call Treasury at 855-290-1545. You may also print and fill out a waiver form and return it to the address on the form. Waiver Form“

“If you already are receiving benefits, you can create a my Social Security account and start or change Direct Deposit online. You also can sign up at your bank, credit union, or savings and loan.“

Has anybody actually taken this nonsense a 1/2 step further and asked the very simple question...….. HOW do any of the accusations made about fewer mail boxes, etc, benefit or hurt a political candidate?

If YOU have a mailbox, and you must if received a ballot in the mail, just leave the ballot in the box for the carrier to take.  If you have a P.O.Box, you're already there.

And, of course, why is any of this racist?  Are people of color mailbox challenged?  Proportionately have fewer mailboxes?  Are unable to obtain mailboxes?

I think there is some concern in some camps about an enthusiasm deficit and if voting isn't convenient, it may not happen.

Next will be mail in ballots with Candidates PRE-CHOSEN for your convenience. People shouldn't have to go through the stress and mental anguish of trying to pick our leaders.

The mass postal ballots are said to have to your political affiliation next to your address which has been the cause for so many 'missing' ballots. [ I heard this from a postal employee]

ex;  1234 d [or r]  Main St

I saw that and was concerned so I did a little research - this was only done for mail in ballots during primary elections, not during the general election....

Also, it's all over now, the leftists can put away their torches and pitchforks:

Postmaster general says he's pausing changes 'until after the election'

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/512533-postmaster-general-says-hes-pausing-changes-until-after-the-election

When does he start reinstalling the removed sorting machines and street boxes? Or did they achieve their goal to get them off-line until they got caught?

Why isn't EVERYONE screaming angry over what they're trying to do? The balls of him to snuggle with veterans' prescriptions, SS checks (for those that still get hard checks), and countless other essentials that only the USPS provides....For people of ALL political stripes? WTF

Are you referring to the mail collection boxes the Obama admin removed?

With this situation as serious as it is, FOR EVERYONE, you come up with something like that?

Try harder.

This is somewhat confusing, are you saying that mail box removal that was applicable in August of 2016 is not applicable in August of 2020.   After reading the article and your reply, it leaves me confused as to your intent...……

In 2016 it was business as usual, normal operations. In 2020, not so much. When you include the dismantling and destruction of hundreds of hi speed sorting machines, no overtime, sacking over 20 senior administration (maybe more, not sure of the number) and major changes to how the USPS operates.

All this in the space of two months after a major donor with absolutely ZERO experience in the USPS, who has MILLIONS of dollars invested in competitors to the USPS (a bit of conflict of interest) is appointed by someone with a very real interest in DeJoy's success. The same guy that pledged to put an immediate stop to the removal of equipment, and surprise!, lied about that. As of last night, news reports of continued disassembly of this necessary equipment continues.

And all this, mere months away from an election that promises to increase the workload at the USPS exponentially, handling the immense influx of mail-in ballots. The same ballots that are striking fear in the hearts at 1600 Penn. And how about the 'admission' that there is no intention of supplying funding to help the USPS in this time of great need...."No money for USPS, can't do the mail-in voting, too bad" (paraphrasing)

So yeah, there is no comparison of the two. Just another strawman argument with no basis in fact.

Hmm, if you say so.   I don't agree but, if you don't see it that way, that's your choice.
Seems to me there was mail box removal/realocation program prior to that 2016 election also.   There was also an attempt to control overtime prior to that election as I remember.   Not sure about the mail machines but, since The Post Master General is a "Logistics Expert" I'm thinking he probably knows what he's doing in trying to get the USPS on track.   President Obama's PMG most surely didn't get it done.

Although Progressives/Liberals won't admit it, I've give them credit for coming up with a grand scheme to cause a Dem feeding frenzy on what really isn't a big deal, just an attempt to make the USPS a more efficient organization.   With a biased media supporting this "feeding frenzy" the Dems have successfully stopped the reorganization.   I admit, it's a shrewed (although dis-honest) and apparently successful maneuver to get folks excited over nothing.

I don't think operating a trucking business for profit is the same thing as managing hundreds of thousands of employees in a government, not-for-profit, last mile delivery operation can be considered the same thing.

Rin, if you're "not sure about the mail machines", there is no shortage of information out there to educate yourself.

As far as a "feeding frenzy", try applying some logic to your premise. Where and in what world would it be considered 'good business' to make these changes less that three months before an election. Refer to Meathead's analogy.

The Dems didn't create this situation. As far as the USPS previous PMG "not getting it done", do some research on the 2006 Congress induced stranglehold on the USPS financials.

SO, HOW DOES REMOVING BOXES OR MACHINES BENEFIT ONE CANDIDATE OVER ANOTHER ? ?

Trump is a this, the other guy is a that, and the 3rd guy is the enemy, Obama did this, etc, etc...…

If you can't answer this very simple question then you really do have TDS.  If you use the same B/S reason as is used for voter ID, you're a racist.  But, I'd still love to hear the answer.

DeJoy was the CEO and chairman of New Breed Logistics from 1983 to 2014, a contract logistics handler. According to his USPS profile, DeJoy collaborated in that position for decades with “U.S. Postal Service, Boeing, Verizon, Disney, United Technologies and other public and private  companies to provide supply chain logistics, program management and transportation support.”

The company was a USPS contractor for over 25 years and received four quality supplier awards from the government agency.

In your desperate attempt to justify your position, you're aware that his contract with the USPS was to TRUCK mail? Not to collect, sort and deliver MILLIONS of pieces of mail a day. Vastly different skill set, and one he either doesn't possess, or has no intention of acquiring. He's a hatchet man, plain and simple. This isn't difficult.

This is somewhat confusing, are you saying that mail box removal that was applicable in August of 2016 is not applicable in August of 2020.   After reading the article and your reply, it leaves me confused as to your intent...……

Rams

No experience? He may not have been a letter carrier but he certainly has a ton of experience in shipping/transportation and logistics. All the things necessary to move the mail. Actual real life experience.

I don't think operating a trucking business for profit is the same thing as managing hundreds of thousands of employees in a government, not-for-profit, last mile delivery operation can be considered the same thing.

OMFG are you really serious?! Do you really believe half the stuff you write? Holy Smokes what a freaking joke.

Yes, I am absolutely serious about what I write. Well, 99% anyway, and that 1% is easily understood as humor or sarcasm.

Please cite me an example of what you find to be so fantastical.

I'll be away from my computer for a bit, so you've got plenty of time.

Hmm, sorting mail...name address zip, send to truck, deliver to mailbox

Sorting freight....name address zip, send to truck, deliver to warehouse, office, or doorstep...yes I see the difference.

Hmmmmm. Kind of like a one term senator/community organizer becoming president.
