Weather has sure been a factor in my activities this spring! First time I can remember having to plan my yard mowing between thunderstorms. It’s almost June and I don’t have 200 miles on the bike this year. Not to say there haven’t been any opportunities at all, but now that I’m over 70, I’m trying to be a more responsible adult! I’m assuming that it will make future rides all the more sweeter!

Well it stopped  raining  around  11 am...
Got  a  truckload  of  cardboard, It looks  like  I  might need  more.
The  Lays   fella screwed up. And  didn't  save  me  the  boxes.. They are  the  best and  biggest.. SO I  only got  1/2  of  them and  a  bunch of  smaller  ones..
That means  more  earth steeples.. To anchor  down..
That is  a  PITA ! As  that also means  more  Survey Flagging Tape..  tickedoff
Oh well...  I  hope  to get more  of the  garden in tomorrow.
At least my fancy lettuce  and  onions and  tomatoes, cabbage..
Beans  and  squash as well I  hope.. And  my flowers  to bring  the  good  bugs  in to the  garden.

Cucumbers not  for  at least another  week+

I did start to lay the  cardboard  down in the  small garden.. Haven't even gotten a  whole row  done  yet..  After all there  is  prep work on a  box. slice  it  open as  the  seam..

Well that was exciting ! at 4:20 pm  the  winds  picked up and  I  watch my tree catch fire   from the  power line , then the  transformer  blows!
Then Thank goodness   heavy rain ! That puts the  tree out.
I /we  have  been after  the  power  co. for  17 yrs.  about this  tree..
It took them 3.5  hours  to show  up. They put in another  ticket .

I was outside  at the  time  and  I heard  the  snapping of  the  line   on the  tree.. AS  it does  in the  wind.  The  power  Co.  truly has  NO F's  to give..  Because  the  last time  the  Supervisor  showed  up 8 yrs. ago. he  turned  to us  and  said { it will just burn that trees limb } and  smiled.. Ooo I wanted  to shove  his  face  in the  dirt !
Don was fuming  ! When that fella  said  that...

Don always  got  me  7 rows, I was lucky to get the  5 in..
I  fully finished  the  small garden today..
This  was the  last till, you can see where  I  had  started  to rake   the  row over for   more  depth..

Then covered  it all.  ..

Then planted and  caged all peppers, Tomatillos, Onions ,and  my fancy lettuce  .
And  added  all the  cardboard in the  walk ways and  the  edges.
So glad this one  is  now  done.

Still have  to do the  large  one..That I'll start the  June  3 & 4  and  7 & 8..
I  should  get it  all in .. I  have  the  black covers down.

Saturday is spear  hay all day and  get it in the  barn......

We went for a short ride yesterday and I was amazed at the number hay bales we saw.

But I guess they are no longer "bales" but rolls.  Anyway, the machine that is used is impressive.

Living down here in the midlands of SC, we forget the temperatures in other areas and higher elevations.

This month, so far, lowest has been 60, highest has been 85.

Last month was almost the same.

Ok ft wheel back on TheBeast (Check)
Set the  Ft end  the  best I could.

Fuel tank off  (check)
Air filter  cleaned and  recharged  (check)
Delt with the  bloody mice  (Check)
Them little  bastards  will not  get in to the  foam filter!

I don't  think this  wire  will restrict the  air  flow..
It has  to be  better  than the  mice  filling the  area  up with seeds  and fiber glass

OK TheBeast is  all buttoned  up, and  just got  back from the  ever most important  test run .
a  little  4 mile round trip the  new ft tire  feels  great! I  must  have  set the ft end, as  NO ticking .
The  fuel tank is  good   no pinched lines.. smitten

I  even hit the  risers  , TheBeast likes  to loosen them from time  to time.. 2funny

My only issue  Is  I  don't  have  Don to check my work.. Oh well..  Cry
That was something  he  always  did  for  me.. It just  made  me  feel more comfy..

Tomorrow  I  fill the   fuel tank back up... For  a  little  longer  test run..

We  are  in  a pretty good drought!
I  have  heard 3 farms are with our water and  are hauling water from the  creek down the road.  Cry
My spring is slow but still running .. And  that I  am thankful ..
They say rain  is  coming..
Everyone  is  talking  about this  is  the dryest June  anyone  can remember..

The  garden sure  needs  water  Bad ! This is  my food. But I can't  use  the  water...
As  soon as  I  know  for  sure  and  certain. I might give  each plant a little  drink.
At least we  have  a  good dew  each morning.  So that helps  out a  lot, as  does my clay soil.
And  clay hard  pan shelf  2.5  feet  under  the  gardens. And  all the  mulching I  had  done..

Yesterday   was a  carpet shampooing day  for  the  spring/summer..
I couldn't  do them at all last year. But  the  kitchen floor.  As  we  had  a  bad  fall/winter  drought..
And  dealing with HB's  needs . Had  NOT time  in the  spring or summer  last year.

AT least I only use  about 5 gal.. In total.. Yeah I know  that could  have gone  to  a few  plants..
But the  carpets  look great. And  they really needed  it  !
They are  getting  long in the  tooth ,40+ yrs. old maybe.
They are  what was  here  when we  moved in..  I said  to Don , they look fine  to me ..
The  Kitchen has  some  kind  of  Linoleum or  Vinyl .. What ever..
Our last farm had indoor/outdoor carpet  in the Kitchen.   I miss that..
If  ya  dropped  glass  9 out of 10 time  it didn't  break !

Well tomorrow  is  9months. Anyone  may join me  tomorrow  night in a toast .
Missing him has  not gotten any better  that's  for sure. *Sigh* Just a  new  normal suckage ..
But I'm getting  by and  dealing .  Staying busy and  ahead  of  the  demons.
Almost caught me  the  other day . But whipped  out  the  garbage can lid  and  sword !  coolsmiley
And  slayed  the  beast !  cooldude

Might have  a  friend  come by this  weekend  "MIGHT".
I sure  hope  so, could  use  a  distraction ...

Well things  to do ... angel

I was looking for something yesterday and came across a stack of 35mm pic..
This photo is from 1992.. at our old farm in BlueGrass.. Note our old J10 "Nelly Belle"
You can see all of our haying equipment and post hole digger.. Dang I would kill to have all that here...
That barn was ALL wormy chestnut ,even the claps .. All cut off of our farm back during the chestnut blight . Not the windows we put them in ..

And Don  smitten Gosh I miss him...
Yeah 9 months today.. LOL already started  drinking..  Wink

They're calling it thunderstorms up here.

No thunder, no storm, spitting rain that dries on the hot concrete.

Some real rain would be nice.

Ahhh, memories....

The first movie I ever saw by myself (I was maybe 10 or 12, don't remember) was in my aunts home town of Kutztown, PA.  It was Frank Sinatra - "Singing in the Rain". I will never forge that day.  I walked into town from their home all by myself.  I guess it was me, coming of age.
