The rain gauge has 6ths in it ..
I'll take it ...
Both rain barrels are full ! And over flowing yay !!!
At least now I can water and feed the garden at will...

I might try and hook up the brush hog...
And hit the pasture.. Key world Might

My bush hog has not seen much use since we finished the house and cleaned up the areas around it.

I always found it a real chore to get connected to the tractor's three point hitch.  But once done, it was a good tool for mowing large areas.

I went up on the  mountain and  checked  and  cleaned  the  spring..
STILL SLOW ... but a  small flow  is  better  then what a  few  other  folks  have...

The  best part of  today was  seeing 2  scarlet tanagers and  listening to them sing !  smitten

Well got  the  spear off and after  2h, I  got  the  brush Hog on..

I  couldn't  get the  top  fill nut off..

So I  put gear oil in the  over flow hole  .Had  to  cut some  hose  so I could   put  what I  had in it.

Never  came  out the  over flow.. But I  only had  a  bottle.  Just got  me  feet wet  ,down in the  feeding area.

And  Only did  a few  rounds.. And  felt maybe  more  gear oil. before  I  mow  anymore..

Not too sure  I  like  brush hogging...

I was never sure about it either.  A lot of power in those blades.  And I understand your issue.

Has  nothing to do with the power  of  them blades.
Having to run the  tractor  at such high rpm, sure  makes  it hot work..
And  the  area I was working in was tall milky weeds..
But at least NO rocks..

I really need to hit the  old  hay/pasture  and  kick the  weeds down .
Now  that we  had  gotten 6 ths. of an inch  of  rain.
That should  give  the  grass  a  good  drink. They are  calling  for  more  rain this  week.. We  shall see..
I  think more gear oil first.. But it's  Sunday so maybe  Rural King is  the  place. For  my oil..

We got our first rain in four or five weeks (maybe longer) on Friday I think.  It was about 2.8" in 12 or so hours.  A lot in a short period but the land needed it and  there were no major events.

I don't remember where it was, maybe it was when we lived in Florida, it was sort of cool to have a nice shower every afternoon.  Just enough to not have to water the grass.

Only issue was I rode the back to work and it generally rained around 4 PM.  But it was only three or four miles to home.

We have been having similar events around Elgin & Lugoff, SC.   It seems that this is "new" to the area since I was working at a nuclear power plant from 1979 to 2016  and such events were monitored closlely.

Nothing major luckily.

Last spring I set out to trap ground hogs on the horse farm I now live on.  The holes they dig will break a horses leg and that’s the end of the horse.
Anyhow, after the 3rd trapped and pissed skunk, I gave up my trapping career.
The horses got used to the .22 report….

Yes  on GH holes  being  devasting to livestock and  haying Equi...
Don't ask me  how I know  this. on both..

At least here  they only dig around  this  old  barn that is  NOT used  by  the   garden.
I  just don't  have  the  time  to sit for  hours  on end , That was  Don's  job..
To keep the  vermin out of  the  gardens.

The  stock we  have  now  are  very wise  to holes .

Side note :
It's  the  damaged  tendons  that are  the  worst .
Lost 2 out of  5 to that.. Breaks  2 lost 1 the  one  was just NOT repairable ...

If the  break is  minor, and  some can be.
They can be  healed. and  Be  great baby sitters or  broodmares if they have  the  breeding.

Hey we  had  40 head of  TB~ QH~ Anglo Arabs.. On our other  farm...
Here  we now  have  just the  last old  BM...

Left mare  AA,  The  bay mare  was one  that was Snake bite  as  a  long yearling..

QH ~AA~ PB arab~TB~TB  Still living  QH 28 yrs old ,AA 24 yrs old ,TB 24 yrs old.

And  of course I  have  17 head  of  Longhorn cattle

Nice!  The farm I live on has 5 geldings and 2 mares.  Just a small place.
I don’t have much experience with horses, but learning to care for them has been a learning experience!
I retired and moved here, and loving it! Owner goes to FL. For the winter so I’m in charge. That includes snow plowing, frozen pipes, moving manure, etc. pretty glamorous hahaha. But I’m sure you know that.
Take care Tracy, you’re doing great,

Now I'm dealing with yellowjackets , they broke #1 rule!
So now they die!
Where they are  living.. Well at least for  the  time being ...

I  know  everything says  Do NOT seal them up.. (they can find a way in to the  house)
Well I think it's  safe  to say ,sealing up in there  and  a  whole  can.
There is  NO worries of them getting  in to the  house..  Roll Eyes

Now I'm dealing with yellowjackets

The smart move with those bastards is to watch them in daylight, and then wait until well after dark (when they all group up together in a nest or wherever and are all lethargic, unlike in the heat of broad daylight).

And then kill them all in the nest.  Even at night, I still suited/covered up (esp head and hands).

Mine were in ground nests (this is what you discover watching in daylight), so I poured gas down the hole, lit it (thump/boom), and covered the hole with a big flat rock.  All gone.

Don't take any chances with them, even if you're not allergic, multiple stings can lead to breathing and other troubles besides pain (and you're all alone out there).

Keep animals away from nests as well.

Yellow jackets will enjoy dead animal carcasses too so bag and stick those coons and groundhogs in the freezer (or somewhere).

What do you do when your favorite moto coat has a frayed collar?
Why you fix it of course!
And a few inside pockets needed hole sewn as well ..
All I had was red no wale corduroy ..
I had a funky brown , but the red suited me better..

And  took it  on a  test ride.. Nice  and  comfy too..
Nice  too stick your  hand in your  pocket ,and  not go through...
