The route has been decided, the host locations have been set, and this event is a go. Proceeds will be donated to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation / Ride For Kids The official starting location is Poor Richard's Cafe in Plano Check stations are: Big Slick's in Westminster Loose Wheels in Denison Lucy's Grill in Celina Our final destination is Hank's Texas Grill in Mckinney. Our Facebook page is up and running. If you use Facebook please go and "LIKE" our page. http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/DFW-Poker-Run/120071374671972The webpage is being built DFWpokerrun.com please check back often as we get the page built and updated. If you would be willing to participate by helping at one of the ride locations, please shoot me a message. It would be best to have two people at each location. Most importantly, please invite everyone you know to come participate. Nothing would be cooler than to have over 100 bikes participate in this event. Since this is the first run I personally have organized start to finish I am hoping for a fun and successful event with lots of participation.

Clearly heads and shoulders above any single effort to help the kids in the history of the DFW VRCC! I am so proud to see the club doing so well generally these days. I see this as a result of quality folks that really do make an effort to help each other and others. Yes, the Valk is one common denominator, but I believe HEART as big as Texas has even more to do with the current club climate. We have been the top club several times over the past seven years. I will check the history and put together those stats as I have time, but there is no doubt this is the best shot we have had at "Top Club" at the DFW Ride For Kids in several years. I hope you will all get behind Chris, aka Ghillie, and offer to lend a hand. This really is a huge undertaking that will be more fun for everyone if we share the various last minute task. Got friends that would like to help? They don't have to be a Valk member to help or even be a rider to help day of event. If you are on Facebook, please send out invitations to your friends from the events Facebook page. Please post on any other forums you visit and send the web addy out in e-mails to get as many riders involved as possible. Here is your opportunity to get in on the ground floor of what will be an annual event! All you out of towners have got time to plan on joining us for the poker run June 19th. We will come up with a host hotel the next couple of days. What else can we do? Got a list, Chris? ~Jeff

This sounds like an awesome event for a great cause I am trying to reschedule a few things and trying to get more people involved I will let you know. My group is also passing out info about our group at Traders Village swap meet June 11-13, I will spread the word about this to every biker I meet as well. Thanks for all the hard work to set this up. Billy

I am starting to run into people who have already heard about the poker run. We are in crunch time now and finally seem to be picking up a little steam. The following places have been approached or already agreed to support the run: King Metals Cycle Gear Redneck Heaven Trinity Hall HD Dallas in Garland HD Dallas in Allen Maxim Al Lamb Greenville Honda Action Suzuki
On the list of places still to be contacted: Rockwall Honda Plano Kawasaki BMW of North Dallas Bikers Garage Twin Peaks Hooters Starbucks Bates Two Wheel World
We have placards on cardstock that are generic or say sponsor depending in if an establishment will simply post a notice or throw a raffle item to us.
We also have generic flyers for passing out to the public. I have pdf files for these items as well.
If you would like materials, or copies of the pdf's, or have suggestions of places we should be promoting / soliciting at please message me here or on yahoo mail as carmstrng.
I still need volunteers to help man our locations at Big Slick's in Westminster and at Loose Wheels in Denison. We could also use another person at Poor Richard's and at Hank's. If you have non riding friends who would like to be involved in a great cause, this is their opportunity.
Poor Richard's is our official start location, we will be under a pop up in the parking lot. This location will require early set up to block space. Poor Richards opens at 6am for breakfast but registration does not start till 9am. I plan to cone off bike parking Friday night. Jeff is heading up this location with all the RFK and PBTF accessories.
Big Slick's is setting us up a table in the patio area 11am-4.
Loose Wheels is setting us up a table inside 11am-4
Lucy's is setting us up a table in front and will move us inside if it becomes too hot 11am-4. Dave and Janet have volunteered to man this location. It would be good to cone off a section of bike parking at this location..
Hank's is giving us the entire patio 3pm-6pm. I am assuming we will move the gear from Richardson to here between 2 and 3. it would be good to have someone here between one and two to start coning off a bike parking area.
I appreciate all the people offering support and help.

Chris, Are you going to be at the meeting tonight? If not, how many volunteers do you need for the 19th? I'm thinking we could use the "opportunity to volunteer" as a door prize , or we could just pass around a sign up sheet. What ever works, right! Ride Safe, gf

Ghillie and volunteers - You completely rock! What a great job on the charity run. I know folks got a bit hot along the way, but the stops were spaced out just right for cooling off and having a drink. Met some great folks along the way. Didn't count the Valks, but seemed like I saw at least 12-15 Valk riders and met a new one from Cleburne. Dang good fun and food.

I second that! From my viewpoint everything went smooth. Riders on a lot of different bikes (Yamahas, Kawasakis, Harleys etc.) were there to join all of us Valkers. Several different groups set off on their journeys without any fanfare or long involved discussions. I personally rode with one familiar face (Bob Forsythe) and several new faces which was very enjoyable. Our group leader set a casual pace that made the hot day a little more tolerable. Together with the VRCC, I think Chris created one of the best one day rides I have attended. I'm sure Gary and all of those working for the PBTF appreciate the huge effort as well. - Please support all of those mechants who supported us -

Thanks to all who braved the brutal Texas heat yesterday to participate in the Charity Run. Despite the heat and only a moderate turn out, I do feel that the run was a success. We succeeded in creating a fun event. We succeeded in getting support from other clubs and ride groups. We succeeded in getting support from brands other than Honda and from non bike related businesses. We succeeded in raising the awareness of the Ride For Kids fall event and in raising funds for the Pediatric Brain Tumor foundation. JC, thanks for instigating the whole thing. I am sure that when you first suggested it, you were probably not envisioning the production it became. I don't think I was either but I think we all pulled it off well. It is something that the club should be proud of. I would like to plan a smaller, family and friends, fun run version this fall. Congratulations on walking away with both of the big ticket raffle items. I will deliver the fire pit this week and some of the guys added a little something to the pot for you. A big thanks to all that helped. Rainmaker, LemonDrop, BAD, Janet, T-Roy, Mel, Wanderer, ThagAndy, Elizabeth, and all those that helped out without taking on specific tasks. Thanks Tom for the last minute rally that padded the prize pool so well. I am not sure how many of you met Jeff Davis yesterday, I will drag him to a meeting one of theses nights. Jeff worked at building and maintaining our website for us. Thanks to all who came out and supported the run. I met riders I have not met before and saw several I had not seen in awhile. Your generosity and support truly leave me without words. Thanks to all who were there in spirit. I heard from several who wanted to be there and could not be for various reasons. We missed you, but we certainly understand. Finally I wish to thank the club as whole for the friendship and camaraderie I have experienced over the over the last year.
