Beautiful 61 degrees and sunny on the way into work this morning. It was really hard to make the turns necessary to come to work, and to not just keep ridin'.   cooldude

Today... like everyday that I ride to work... which is everyday... things were pretty much the same as usual.  I leave for work around 8 AM... the temperature is a balmy 75 or so... except for the 95 percent humidity.  So, moving is OK... standing still is a sweat... especially in a pair of suit pants and a long sleeve shirt.

It's only about 5 miles to work in the central business district... Singapore is a compact place.  I'm well used to driving on the wrong side of the road now.  And, I've gotten pretty good at spotting the road hazards.

Like taxis... there are 24,000 of them in Singapore.  Not at all unusual to see one swing across 3 lanes to pick up someone at the curb.  Taxis are a danger but pretty predictable if you always keep your eye out for people on the curb.  Owning a Valk in Singapore is not a good thing unless you like to talk to people.... I've lost count of the number of times a taxi driver rolls down his window at a red light, points to the bike, and says, "How much you pay!!!???" I tell 'em $50,000 or $5,000... either gets an amazed response.

Two other things you have to watch out for in Singapore urban traffic... the 'goods vehicles' drivers (essentially pick up trucks) and owners of expensive Mercedes, BMW's, Lexus, and the like.  For the truck drivers, it seems like you cannot be hired unless you are an idiot... I've got loud horns on my bike because these idiots liek to go wherever they want to go with little consideration for driving basics... like staying in your lane.

And the buggers that own the $250,000 to $700,000 cars?  They think they bought the whole highway system.  I have literally stopped in the middle of the road, put my bike on it's kickstand, and walked over to one of these dudes who would not stop tailgating me.  I pulled out my mobile and said, "I will call the traffic police right now, is that OK with you?  Either that or stop tailgaiting!"  There are some advantages to being Ang Moh (white guy) in Singapore.

But actually, the ride is generally great.  Lane splitting is legal so at every red light, I get to pull up to the light.  There are no straight roads in Singapore... the very longest you can drive without making at least a bit of a sweeper is maybe 1 mile... and where I drive to work, lots of curves everyday.  I've become very good at urban driving... pegs touch on most the the curves... got to be careful.

OK... this is not the riding back home thread... but that's OK too... generally hotter... always good to stop off for a pint of beer at the Old Brown Shoe... cool down, let the traffic die down... let the gawkers take a pic or two on the Valk.

rode to work, parked in front of the Courthouse, it was so nice I called my daughter and rode all the way to white plains ny to take her to lunch at a hibachi japanese steak house then back to work

Got to love those 60 mile detours on curvy car only roads cooldude

waited till after rush hour then got to haul ass home alongside a nice new vette and a convertible bmw for most of the way with aerosmith and skynrd on the tunes  Them xpensive cars have the best radar detectors and I knew no matter the speed we was not gonna get no appreciation certificates no way

Dont get much better than that

Only shame was that I had to work once I got to work  I need a job like Willow where you can put your feet up and rest all day

Oss try harder, we all know Lawyers never get tickets. who else gets to park right in front of the courthouse?

As far as Willow's versus your job and feet up on the desk, again your a lwayer right. (Is it no repsect for lawyers day yet?)

Have a good one oSS.

Hope everyone had a good 4th, me and Carolyn were with the family at Aunt Doris and

Wet ride the last 15 minutes on the way in, left work for a wake in a downpour which lasted about 30 minutes, dry the rest of the way until the last 10 minutes coming home. I remember sunshine, honest. More rain expected tomorrow. A ride in the rain beats the cage hands down!

rode in tonight to work. Not everybody goes to work in the morning. I set on the back porch this morning and watched it rain for four hours . It sure felt good to see some rain for a change. Wouldn't you know it a watered the whole yard and flower beds yesterday. Rain water is so much better for the grass  than just watering. I think I could hear the grass growing.

Nice ride in this AM and like Mr B says, not all ride to work in the morning. Leave the AM job tonight to head to the PM job straight away. Nothing like a little 36 hour break from the house..........

Rode today, rode yesterday...

Yesterday - Don't ya' just love those days where the weather man says it'll be upper 90's and sunny, and suddenly you find yourself in the middle of a MAJOR heat effect thunder storm? Sideways rain, hail, the whole 9 yards?

Oh well, it's the misadventures that make life interesting...

I haven't driven my blazer in about 5 weeks now. The other day I decided to check it to see if it would start. Well after cleaning the clamps on the battery and a hour on the charger I got it to start. I need a trickle charger I guess for my other ride. Valks battery seems to be charged to the max. cooldude

four-for-four ... but TStorms are comin.  Scrubbed those midwest midnight bugs off the windshield tonight... I do appreciate the windshield on nights like tonight.

On a sad note: Earlier this week, one MI biker was taken by a semi right after he hit a deer on M127; (my main work route).

Everyone watch their 6 - keep that distance on your tail.
