Since I can't seem to find what I'm searching for, I'll just start a new subject!  cooldude

Are there a different bulbs I can put into my tachometer and speedometer housings? Can I even get inside those things? When I ride at night, I can't see how fast I'm going.  Angry

I've done both of these mods and I'm quite pleased with the results. I used blue bulbs for the tach and speedo. The brighter turn indicator now makes it easy to remebered to cancel your turns.  Roll Eyes

If you do the indicator upgrade , I would suggest that you only do the turn signal and Neutral bulbs ...if you switch to a brighter High beam indicator , it's wayyy too bright , especailly if you have a windshield. Creates too much glare back at you .

The original instrument [ tach/speedo] bulbs are about 2W [ can't remember the number, I think 159].
Replacements
158, 3.3W  [ work good]
161, 2.7W
194, 3.8W
168, 4.9W [ get too hot]

Really didn't think that needed to be answered. Its easy, just remove the cover and replace the bulbs. The reset knob needs to be removed on the speedo, allen wrench if I remember.

Thanks for explaining that without losing it, as some do here.... (even though it would have done me a lot of good to "take a look" 1st!

No problem. Hope it helps. If the speedo reset doesn't have an allen screw [ I think it is] then it could be a small screw [ JIS].

Mine was a small Phillips headed screw. Don't loose it!  Roll Eyes

So here is the blue bulb spoken of above:

https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/194-led-bulb-1-smd-led-miniature-wedge-retrofit-car/204/908/#/tab/Specifications

At the current Canadian-US exchange, this is going to cost me over $30 CAD to get these bulbs!

I went onto eBay and amazon, and I am seeing a lot of very reasonably priced 194 LED Blue bulbs, but they seem to be a different spec... 6 SMD vs 1 SMD (whatever the heck that means anyway), and they tend to be T10 instead of T3-1/4 as specified in the link above...

Here is an example of blue 10 pack for $7 CAD shipped... but would they work? :

Can't help with those LEDs. But, if ones are found to work, then I would think heat wouldn't be an issue.
