« on: October 07, 2009, 05:02:07 PM »

There's been some discussion about the goings-on for October 17.  So, here's the plan:
“Meet in the Middle” ride:
The Texas VRCC will be gathering in Nacogdoches on October 17 for lunch/tire kicking/general BSing.  We will meet at 12:30 at the restaurant.  The restaurant HAD been picked out, but some problems have arisen, so we'll announce precise location as soon as we can.
This was conceived as a social gathering between DFW and Houston, and the location was chosen as a good central location between the two.  It also should provide some good east Texas riding for folks coming in.  I know it's a little farther for the Austin/SA/etc. guys, but Nacogdoches fits the original intent of the event.  I hope the more western folks can still make it, though.
This is not a substitute for the Hill Country Ride-in.  It is not meant to be anything like it.  It's simply a lunch/social with a good ride in and out.

I will be setting up a group to ride in from Houston, and will post my concept as a reply to this.  Dave will be setting up the group coming in from DFW and posting the plan.  Anyone coming from other areas, holler, and if you can make a group ride out of it, great.

Houston group:
We'll meet up at the south side of the Lynchburg ferry.  There's a parking lot on the east side of the road just before you get to the ferry, and we'll gather there.  We'll be leaving fairly early (I'm thinking on the order of 8AM) in order to get a reasonable route, and still arrive by 12:30.
If you live more to the northern part of town, and don't want to ride south just to ride north, let me know, and we'll set up a secondary meeting point to catch up with everyone on the north side.
Please post if you intend to be there, so I know to wait on you.  If I don't have a phone number for you, I would appreciate a cell phone number by email, for late coordination purposes.

DFW Group:

Let's meet-up at 7:30am in the parking lot of Al Lamb's Dallas Honda and plan for KSU at 8:00am.  If Al's is backtracking for you, please chime in and we'll try to coordinate a waypoint that's convenient for all.  I'm thinking a scenic ride down with one or two stops, a big lunch and hang-out session with our VRCC buds, and then a more direct route home to beat the sunset.  If you need to contact me, you can use this thread, the personal message feature, or the email address on my profile.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave, I plan on making this meet. If you are planning a Southerly scenic route keep me posted and maybe we can meet up at a way point, like Athens, GunBarrel City just to name a few. On the other hand if you are planning a more northerly route I will be leaving from Dublin on hiway 6 going straight east towards Waco. Any other valker out this way going to the Meet in the middle?

I'll list as a possibility and watch for the route the houston group will take. Don't get off till 6AM and if on a call, may just have to play catch up if I can go. Will be watching the board.  Smiley

As soon as you have a route map, I'll see if I will be joining up or backtracking to Al's.  I've not been riding for a long time and this would be good for me.  Although I am hesitant as I don't want it to be rained out.  Wink

The picture can stay for a while longer.  BAD needs to suffer for a little while longer.. Smiley

As bad (no pun intended) as I want to ride up on the 17th, I have a prior commitment with our radio club here in Pearland.  We are having a picnic and setting up radios for the Boy Scouts to talk on.  It is a yearly event called JOTA (Jamboree On The Air) and Scouts of all ages get to come out and talk to other Scouts all around the world with an amateur operator's supervision, of course.

Y'all have a good time and bring the guage set back to H-town so I can use them in the near future.

FB, If you're blind, then there's two of us.  I haven't seen any location mentioned yet.  Mark said the original location planned didn't pan out, so they were looking for a new one.   Saturday's going to be a good riding day.  This might be my third ride in a row without sweating !!   Cheesy

Since I am not going, I REALLY don't want to recommend this, but WOODY'S in Centerville was the original idea mentioned AND has good BBQ, free home cooked pinto beans, free iced tea, with every bbq sandwich purchase.  The parking is kind of weird, but y'all should go to the one on the East side of I-45, parking is better there.  There is a separate room in the back y'all can eat in.  Oh, yea, the meal comes with free bread and bbq sauce and all of the lies you can tell.  Cheesy

We've got 2 Tourers, and 4 Interstates in the Northwest Houston area ready to do this ride Saturday.  I'm wandering my way through the treads, and don't think I'm seeing 100% official plans just yet.  If I'm wrong (entirely possible), someone point me in the right direction please?  Thanks, Brenda

Official plans are not posted yet.  They will be coming soon.  I was partially waiting for word from northsiders to help decide where I should setup a secondary meeting point.

Brenda,  I'm in Magnolia/Tomball/W of Woodlands area.   I haven't heard officially anything about a meet point, but I emailed Mark and said I was leaning toward meeting up at Hway 59 @ 242 at the Flying J truckstop.   Any ideas from your group?  GearJammer out

And the lunch spot winner is...

Clear Springs Restaurant
211 Old Tyler Road
Nacogdoches, TX  75961-4878
936 569 0489

If you're riding north on 59, you'll go north of Loop 224, take a left on Hwy 21, and a right on Old Tyler Road.

If you're riding south on 59 (Gary from N Little Rock), you'll go south of Loop 224, take a right on Hwy 21, and a right on Old Tyler Road.

If you're riding east on Hwy 21, you'll go east of Loop 224, and take a left on Old Tyler Road.

Special Thanks to flamingobabe #44, Thalas'Shaya's Dad, John S from Tyler, the Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce, Janet's step-mother, Her Majesty, and all the rest who contributed to the selection.   cooldude   This was actually our first suggestion, then the pharmacology got in the way and I misinterpreted a good first-hand report.  That's what prevented us from making this decision sooner.   Embarrassed

I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone!

Hey TJ (and Six Guns)

I have the route, but don't have time to post it all right now - have to get cleaned up for a certain birthday party.  I'll get it all posted later this tonight.

But for secondary meetup purposes, we'll either go through Terrell or Kaufman on our way to Edom.  Assuming both are too far north for you, we could meet you in Edom.  We might meet John S there, too.  That's where the route will get really nice.

More later,

DFG

Thanks for posting this, Dave.  As a reminder, we'll be meeting there at 12:30.  I will be calling ahead  with as accurate of a headcount as we can get.  I'll give them the name "Texas VRCC".  Once we have 1/2 our party, they'll seat us.  Prior to that, we'll be out in the parking lot kicking tires.

Please give us a head count if you're intending to be there.  This will help in telling the restaurant how many to expect.
